At the UW, I noticed some INCREDIBLE architecture, such nifty old buildings... so you go there for a performance- and suddenly you get sucked into an AU 1880s. Familiar Seattle topography, but no familiar buildings. It can be Steampunk, or fantasy, or whatever. Describe the world you fell into, and how you adapt to living there, or how you find your way home.
Well, the Great Seattle Fire was 1889 (seriously, look it up. Its kind of a perfect disaster and a bit hilarious.) so it could be very possible that going back there could be something very different.
My “home” would not actually exist until around the World’s Fair of 1963. Until then, this was a pretty empty part of town, as I understand it. Seattle Center was constructed to be the site of the Fair, and the hotel building (and many of the now apartment buildings in Queen Anne) were built to accommodate the massive influx of people.
The UW was originally downtown, btw, until 1891. Hence University Street bearing the name.
So. I’d prolly be in a field. Or someplace not developed yet. I’d have to get across Lake Washington, or as it was known to the Duwamish, Xacuabš, and, well, I guess I’d head south, and a little west..
It’d be cool to see the original street architecture before it needed to be built up. And to see how much of Seattle was still marshland, tho.
I’d probably join up with the Naval Reserve. The Armory and Seattle Center was their parade ground. I’ve always thought military life might suit me.
