“So, tell me about your new girl. Don’t deny it, you’ve got a weird look in your eye.” Louise said with a grin as she set down the plate of food in front of Jakob, a cigarette dangling in her other hand. The recent events with Germany had forced her to rename her father’s establishment and clarify that they were serving sliders- not hamburgers. She was incredibly lucky that the number of customers never dwindled. At least she could count on Jakob, a fellow food-based business owner whose shop was diagonal to hers’.
Putting out her cigarette in a nearby ashtray, she took a sip of her water and then opened the paper bag that Jakob had brought along at her request. She loved his pastries, sometimes she felt her burgers- sliders- were inadequate compared to his finely crafted baked goods. She pulled out a cheese danish and her smile widened. “And thanks for the danish. A danish for a slider is a fair trade.”
@fantasticbaker liked THIS for a starer.

He didn’t look fine at all, Tina stated in mind, curiously eyeing Jacob and she was seriously worried about him. Was he doing this because of Queenie or was there something else behind it? “Are you sure you don’t want to come to lunch with us?” she asked, hoping that this could take her closer to the reason behind this whole thing.

The smile on her features is something more nervous-- the excitement over the last few months dying into something far more nerve-racking than anything. Not unhappy, but the obvious stirring of life in her abdomen made each passing day more worrying. Especially given the times.
“Thanks, but you wouldn’t have had to. You know us,” She answered quietly stifling a yawn. They didn’t like big to-dos they’d gotten married they way they did for that exact reasons. Proud, happy-- sure, but neither of them wanted that much attention. And she was getting enough of it lately that her head spinned and she wanted to bite people’s heads off (do not ask to check her stom ach, thank you, she swears to merlin). “I’m well, though,” She said with a nod, wryly, “as well as I should be around now.”

Tina frowned at the man and folded her arms across her chest. Her expression a mixture of disappointment and knowing. “You’re forgetting I’m her sister,” She retorted quietly, voice firm, “Queenie’s the pretty one, everyone knows that. Pretty is also a massive understatement.” The words come out quickly, well-rehearsed.
Tina wasn’t jealous of her sister. She was, in a lot of ways, quite content with how she looked. But there were says she wished her hair was more curly like Queenie. Or she could appear less intimidating even when she wasn’t trying to be. Queenie was beauty inside and out, Tina was a porcupine. Which was fine.
“And as her sister I agree,” Tina continued, “Queenie deserves the world and wonderful things. She decided you were that. Once Queenie sets her mind to something she won’t change it-- And she’d be upset to think you thought you didn’t deserve her.” Nevermind that the woman knew her sister actually was-- Con of being able to mind read and Tina not needing to to understand her sister was upset.

Tina smiled a watery smile, the laugh that escapes more self-reprimanding then amused. The first time she had went to England had been for work, expected. Tina had deliberately not allowed herself to have a permanent place just so she couldn’t get comfortable. Of course, that hadn’t worked. Her free time had moved soundly to spending it all with a certain magizoologist. In the beginning it was an escape from all of the raids, but then she’d ended up with her own cot and the only time she wasn’t there was when she had to work.
Then she had kissed him and something more serious had started. Or, to be more frank, the serious relationship they’d had for a year no longer eluded them. They had both realized just how serious it had been and for a while, in spite of their various works, it had been happy-- Until several months ago when America demanded her attention on its soil and neither had done very well at coping. What had been years in the making had finally settled and the weight of the ring on her finger reminded her of it.
Still, she had never meant to permanently leave Queenie. It had never been her intention, but they were here on the eve of their departure. The older woman trying to be brave and strong, but really leaving her sister hurts more than anything. “That’s good,” Tina answered quiely, swallowing, “and you’ll have to make sure to write about Queenie, too, y’know. She’ll never tell me what she’s feeling in a letter.” Not when she was that far away.
Tina swallowed twisting her hands together before nodding. “Technically, I was only here as long as I was ‘cause work demanded it. They still want us all in Europe; And it was easier-- you know, to transfer for Newt’s work anyway. He does so much of it on that side of the world,” Tina reminded, “so it’s not the best-- but we’ll be back, you know? We’ll always be visiting and maybe once everything’s settled we can stay.”
