My Roommate’s A Vampire
A/N: So I’ve been working on this fic since April and 15001 words later here it is! I hope you guys enjoy because I’ve put a lot of work into this fic. A big thanks to @irwinkitten for listening to my rambles about this work and making sure I didn’t abandon it.

You watch Luke sprawl over the couch, blood bag clutched in his hands as he sucks happily on it. He smiles at you, teeth bloodstained. “You’re a dork,” you ruffle his curls while he continues sucking on the bag. He mumbles something against the bag as it quickly drains, some of it dripping down his chin. “Wait until you’re finished to start talking, silly.” Luke drains the bag and tosses it aside.
“I said thank you for getting me blood. How did they give you any, you’re not registered?” You smirk at him, wiping the blood off his chin with a finger. His eyes catch the red liquid and they turn a deeper red. You’re completely prepared for when he grabs your finger and greedily sucks the blood off it. As you pull your finger out of his mouth, you feel the brush of his fangs. Once the last drop of blood is gone his eyes return to blue, you can still see a faint glow of red around his pupil.
“I have a little charm on my side, womanly wiles.” Luke laughs, fingers clutching his ribs.
“Womanly wiles,” Luke’s feet kick as he laughs so hard his voice cracks. Once he recovers from laughing, he gives you a serious look. “That usually means witchcraft in my history. Don’t start messing with witchcraft. I can’t lose my favorite human.” You refrain from flinching at the word human. He smiles sweetly at you, fangs still out.
“No witchcraft, just cleverness.” Luke hums and climbs over the back of the couch, opening the fridge to get another blood bag. “Don’t drink too much, the blood I got you is your monthly ration.”
Luke pulls all the bags out and frowns, “There’s barely any here.” He counts through the bags again, five of them remain. “This is less than last months and I barely made it through that.” You stand and Luke frowns at the bags. “When I run out of bags don’t let me out of the apartment.”
You go to your calendar and pull it off the fridge, putting it down next to Luke. “We’ll ration your rations then. Okay, so you had one bag today so you have five left for the month.” You write the number one next to the date. “How many bags do you usually get a week?”
“Three, most times I have them all at once and it lasts me the week. I can stagger them out too and be fine.” He puts the blood bags back in the fridge.
“Okay, we have three weeks left in the month and then the first Wednesday of the month you can get more blood. You should have two next week since you’re only having one this week. Should we stagger those so you get one on Tuesday and one on Thursday?” Luke nods, stress creases his brow. “Okay, then you have two bags left and we’ll put both of those on Wednesdays.”
“I’m gonna starve Pidge.”
“You are not going to starve Luke, if you get so hungry it’s too much you can drink from me.” Luke flinches and steps away from you, shaking his head quickly. “Luke it’s not a bad thing, tons of vampires do it, especially with the blood shortage going on.”
“No… no I’m not drinking from you. I don’t care if other vampires do it but I can’t. I won’t.” Luke brushes past you, closing his bedroom door behind him. You sigh and put the calendar back on its spot on the fridge.

Luke is hungry, his blue eyes are tinged with orange as he stares at the calendar, one more day and he can have blood. He’s desperate to tear into the fridge and rip open a bag of blood. You’ve wrapped him up in a thick blanket to try to comfort him from the hunger gnawing at him. “Do you want to go out, Luke?” He shakes his head, wrapping the blanket tighter around himself. “You shouldn’t just be sitting here wallowing in your hunger, you need a distraction.” Luke’s knee shakes while he holds himself, turning back to the nature documentary on the tv.
You open the fridge and grab a blood bag from the shelf. You pull out a cup and open the blood bag. Luke’s head turns like a whip, eyes red at the scent of blood. His chest rises and falls quickly as he watches you pour half the blood into the bottle. You place the blood bag back in the fridge and carry the mug to Luke. “Drink, you’ll have the other half tomorrow.” Luke snatches it from your hands, drinking so quickly blood spills down his chin and drips onto his legs.
Once he’s finished, he’s cleaning up the blood that’s fallen from the cup, savoring every drop until there’s no more. Luke looks slightly sheepish as he sets the cup down, licking his lips to get one last taste of the blood. “Feeling better?”
“Yeah, thank you.” Luke takes off the blanket, stretching out his long limbs. “We can go out now if you want. The blood really helped.” His eyes go back to blue as he stands, fangs retracting slightly. You nod, picking up the cup to bring it to the sink while Luke shuffles to his room to change.
Luke returns with his leather jacket on and jeans on instead of just his boxers. “You’re a messy eater.”
“Blood is hard to drink. I don’t know any vampire that hasn’t ruined at least one outfit while drinking blood. You should be thankful I don’t stain all my clothes.” He flashes you a smile while you grab your purse. At least he seems more energetic than before, but you can still see a glimmer of orange that won’t fade from his eyes.
X-X-X
The club you picked out is just about perfect for a hungry vampire. Luke is ordering more and more cocktails that have a small amount of blood in them. You’re on the dance-floor, dancing with a stranger. If things continue at their current pace you might take him home.
Then you feel fangs sink into your neck. You’re smart enough to know not to rip yourself away; the force of it could cause his fangs to knick your artery. You feel his teeth slip out of your neck and you push away from him as your hand comes up to grasp your neck. Another body slips behind you and a familiar hand wraps around your waist.
Luke hisses loudly, sounding near feral as he brings you to his side. You can feel the venom sinking in and your body feels as light as a feather while you lean against Luke. The other vampire’s eyes are a deep red and it’s not comforting like Luke’s are when he feeds, it’s terrifying.
Luke is practically holding you up by his hand, eyes red as the other vampire growls at him. “Try it, I fucking dare you.” Luke’s words lisp from his fangs but his threat sounds just as dangerous. He leads you out of the club, taking your car keys from your purse. He keeps looking back at the club as he puts you in the passenger seat. Luke locks the door as soon as he’s in the driver's seat. “Keep your hand on your neck or I won’t be able to focus.”
“You’re drunk.”
“It takes way more alcohol than that to get a vampire drunk.” Luke takes a deep breath and curses when his eyes turn a bright red. He rolls the windows down, hoping the wind will keep your scent from getting too strong.
Luke drives home quickly, almost erratically. You’re still dizzy from the vampire venom and the fast pace Luke is driving makes your head spin. “Luke,” your hand starts to fall from your neck and Luke grabs your arm to keep it in place.
“Don’t move your hand.” He growls, red eyes on the road as he weaves through traffic. When he pulls up to your apartment he practically carries you in. Luke sets you on the couch, speeding to the bathroom to grab the first aid kit. Your eyes lazily stare up at the ceiling, hand still on your neck. He rushes back, cursing the whole way. Luke slams the first aid kit down on the coffee table, fingers lightly holding yours.
“No, gotta keep my hand here… for, for Luke.” He chuckles lightly and runs his thumb over your hand.
“It’s me, I’m here Pidge.”
“Oh,” your hand goes slack and Luke lets out a sharp inhale at the scent of your blood. He grabs an antiseptic patch and wipes at the two puncture marks on your neck. He puts a small pad against your neck, the adhesive keeping it in place. Luke grabs the throw blanket from the back of the couch and throws it over you before wiping off the blood on your hand with a wet wipe. He goes to stand but you whine and he freezes. “Stay,” Luke nods and sits back down, leaning against the couch cushion. “Never seen your eyes this bright.”
“It’s from the smell of live blood.”
“It’s a pretty color. I like it.”
“Go to sleep Pidge.”

When you wake up Luke’s still on the floor next to you. He’s asleep. You sit up, hissing at the soreness in your neck where you were bitten. Luke wakes immediately, eyes back to their normal shade of blue. “How are you feeling?” His fingers brush against your cheek, worry creasing his brow.
“Better, not as loopy.” You grab his hand and squeeze it, “Did you hiss at someone?” Luke blushes, you didn’t know vampires could do that.
“He shouldn’t have bitten you without your consent.” Luke’s voice takes on a dark tone, it slightly scares you. “It’s fucking illegal. To bite someone, especially a human without consent.” Luke stands, starting to pace the floor. “And it’s my fucking fault that you got bit too.”
You stand up, grabbing Luke’s shoulders when he turns back around. “Why on earth would it be your fault Luke?”
“Because I should have warned you about rogue vampires and what to do about them. I should have taught you how to identify a vamp or at least told you to wear some silver so none of us would touch you.” Luke hangs his head and you can practically feel guilt washing off him. “I should have kept you safe.”
You shake your head at him, bringing a hand up to rest on his cheek. “I know what happens if I get bit Luke. My dad taught me how to defend myself.” Luke’s eyes land on your neck where the bandage is. “Luke look at me, I’m completely fine. Sure I was loopy from the vampire venom but I’m okay now.” Luke huffs and pulls away, wrapping his arms around himself. “Go have your blood. I bet you’re hungry after all that excitement.”
Luke drinks the rest of his blood bag slowly, eyes a deep red. He throws the bag in the recycling can once he’s done. It’s the neatest he’s ever drank a blood bag. “Do you remember much from last night?”
“A little, I don’t remember the car ride home. The next thing I remember is your eyes being really bright and then you telling me to sleep.” Luke sits on the couch and you sit next to him. He cuddles into your side, head resting on your shoulder.
“Tell me if the puncture marks look infected.” You nod and Luke takes a deep breath. “I might call Ashton, something like this happened to him before.”
“Isn’t Ashton a warlock?” Luke nods, and you snort, “That was dumb of whatever vampire tried to attack him, Ashton probably turned them into a plant.”
“He did. It’s why he has two lemon trees now.”
“That’s fucking brutal.”
X-X-X
Luke is really peppy after his second blood bag of the week. Which is good because Ashton is having a party tonight and having an energetic vampire is way better than a mopey one. Despite his newly found energy, Luke’s acting odd.
You didn’t notice it at first, thinking Luke was just being clingy with his almost constant hugs. Then he nuzzles your neck. You can feel his perky nose brushing against your neck and he huffs right up against the bandage. Luke pulls away and when you turn around he’s already gone.
Luke returns with one of his leather jackets in his hands. He gives it to you with a determined look. “Luke there’s no way this will fit me.”
“Just put it on, please.” The two of you have a small stare down before you slide the jacket on. It’s way too big for you, the sleeves hang past your hands and you roll them up so they’re visible. Luke seems to relax once you settle in it.
“Luke what is up with you?” Luke huffs again, crossing his arms. He mumbles something and ducks his head in embarrassment. “Luke, you’re being really weird right now, tell me what’s wrong.”
Luke shakes his head and you go to take off the jacket. He makes a small hissing noise and pulls it back over your shoulders. Seeming to collect himself, Luke pulls away from you, apologizing softly. “It’s a vampire thing, if you smell like one of us rogue vampires won’t try to bite you.”
“I don’t think there will be rogue vampires at Ashton’s party.”
“Will you please wear it… it would just make me less anxious.” You nod, pulling the jacket tighter around yourself. “I’m sorry, I’m just, I’m so worried that something bad is going to happen.” He runs a hand through his hair nervously, flicking his eyes to the floor.
“It’s okay, you ready to go, or do you have anymore vampire traditions to perform?” Your joke gets a small laugh out of Luke and he shakes his head.
Parties at Ashton’s are always wild. Someone’s already on top of his kitchen island. You’re pretty sure it’s Calum, the werewolf always loving a bit of attention. You and Luke head to the back porch and you stare suspiciously at the two lemon trees. “Which one is the vampire?” Luke looks up and stares at the trees.
“I… don’t know?” His confusion makes you laugh. You lead Luke to the bar and pour yourself a drink while Luke takes a small can of coke from the cooler. He opens it and sets the top aside. Luke stays close to you for most of the night, which doesn’t bother you.
You’re going to get another drink when Luke freezes. He takes a deep breath in before his lips turn into a snarl. “Luke, what’s wrong?” You watch him turn around, scanning the crowd frantically. “Luke,” you tug at his shirtsleeve and Luke grabs your hand tightly.
“Stay close to me, Pidge.” He whispers, not letting go of your hand as he weaves through the crowd. Every so often he stops, turning a few times while breathing before tugging you a different direction. Luke feels nauseous until he reaches Ashton’s front door and pushes it open. You’re still holding your empty cup in your other hand.
Luke’s shoulders are tightly drawn back as he leads you back towards the car, you can practically feel the anxiety coming off him. “Luke, Luke stop,” he does. You pull your hand from his grip, walking around so you can see his face. “What’s gotten you so shaken up?” His eyes look terrified, and he refuses to look at you. “Luke, look at me.” He looks down at you, flinching when you press a hand to his cheek. “Tell me what’s wrong.”
“Someone was there. Someone I knew from when I was young.” Fear grips Luke’s voice as memories flood back to him. “I want to go home. Can we go home?”
“Of course, we’ll get into some comfy clothes and watch Lady and the Tramp again.” Luke climbs into the driver’s side and you look back at Ashton’s house. You debate going inside to warn Ashton about the unknown vampire roaming his house but decide that the warlock can handle it on his own. You slip into the car, Luke grabs your hand again.

Waking up in the middle of the night is normal for you. What’s not normal is waking up to blood-red eyes staring down at you. You jump, sitting up fully as Luke stares at you. “Luke, what did you do?” You turn on the lamp beside your bed and refrain from flinching at the sight of Luke.
Blood is dripping down his chin, his bare chest stained red, and his fingers look sticky with it. “I didn’t mean to… I’m just so hungry.” A tear falls down his cheek and Luke rubs it away, leaving a red stain in its path. “I tried to sleep, but I kept waking up from how hungry I was. The next thing I knew I was on the floor and covered in blood.” You stand up from the bed and Luke backs up. “Don’t get too close, I don’t want to bite you on accident.”
“It’s okay, I trust you.” Luke cowers when you put a hand on his bare hip, leading him to the shower. “I’ll leave you some clean clothes and you can come lay in bed with me once you’re all cleaned up.” You close the door and wait until you hear the water running to get clean clothes.
You’re in bed on your phone when Luke shuffles in. His curls are damp and his eyes are downcast. Luke climbs in and buries himself underneath the covers before snuggling right next to you. You set your phone to the side, wrapping your arms around Luke. “Pidge, I don’t know what to do. I’m still so hungry.”
“Luke it’s Sunday. You have two Wednesdays until you can get blood again. You’re clearly starving why don’t you just take some blood from me?” You feel him flinch where he rests on you. “I know you don’t want to, but if you don’t get a proper amount of blood in you you’re gonna go feral. I don’t want to lose my favorite vampire.” Luke whines while you run a hand up his back. “We’ll talk in the morning okay, for now just go to sleep.” You feel a few tears wet your shirt, but you say nothing. You just let Luke weakly curl his fingers into your shirt before he falls asleep.
In the morning Luke wakes up to the smell of steak cooking. He gets up, shuffling to the kitchen. Luke’s surprised when he sees you and Ashton talking quietly. Luke takes a step forward and you both turn to him. “What’s going on you guys?”
“Pidge was telling me about your incident last night.” Luke flushes and looks down. “Luke, I could have gotten you more blood like that,” Ashton snaps his fingers. “It would be better than this monstrosity Pidge is making you.”
“At least I’m trying.” You sound a bit pissed off at the warlock. “Luke, the blood Ashton got you wasn’t tested. It could be contaminated.”
“But it’s blood,” he steps towards Ashton. “Give me it.” Ashton hands over the blood bag while you put the raw steak down on the counter. You grip the counter tightly while Luke sinks his teeth into the blood bag.
Luke takes a few gulps before he pulls away, eyes wide. He wheezes, dropping the blood bag to the floor. “Luke!” You run over to him, catching him before he falls and hits his head. “Hey, hey, hey you’re okay.” You sink to the floor while Luke chokes. “Ashton what the fuck did you give him?!” You turn Luke on his side while he splutters. His eyes keep flickering from red to blue until eventually they roll back in his head. His body stops moving except for the shallow rise and fall of his chest. “Ashton!” You snap, turning so you can see him, but Ashton is gone.
You roll Luke onto his back again and set his head on the floor. “Sorry Luke,” you push your hand under his shirt, pressing it against his stomach, your other hand just above his mouth. “God I hope I can do this.” You focus your mind on the blood he recently swallowed and imagine it being pulled out of his mouth by the magic in you. Relief floods through you as Luke chokes for a moment before blood leaves his mouth. You move your hand, the blood following, letting it drop where the blood bag had fallen.
You stare down at Luke, letting out a sigh when he coughs and his eyes open. “Pidge?”
“Shh, it’s okay, close your eyes. I’m going to call an ambulance and they’ll fix you all up.” Luke’s eyes slip closed again just as you stand up. You call the ambulance, moving your hand so the blood collects into a small ball before you store it in a plastic bag. You hang up the phone and turn around, gasping when you see Ashton. “Where the hell did you go?!” Ashton simply puts a baby lemon tree on your kitchen counter.
“You’re a fae,” the awe in Ashton’s voice makes you flinch and you hush him.
“Only half-fae and Luke doesn’t know.” You go back to Luke, sitting next to him. “Hey Lu, the ambulance is going to get here really soon, just hang on until then.” Luke can barely open his eyes but he grabs your hand. You run your thumb over the back of his hand to soothe him. When the ambulance arrives, the EMT’s pull Luke onto the stretcher. His eyes snap open, a whine leaving his throat. “Luke, Ashton and I will follow you there. You have to go on your own for now.” Luke is too weak to do anything except turn his head to look at you. “Oh, um, this was the blood that he drank.” You hand the bag over to the EMT’s just before they leave.
As soon as they leave the apartment Ashton starts up. “You’re a fucking half-fae?!”
“Yeah, I’m half-fae Ashton. We’re past that point.”
“You never told us.”
“It’s not that important to me. My dad didn’t like talking about it and my mom, well she wasn’t in the picture. I only recently started getting involved with fae stuff.” You turn to the counter and look at the lemon tree. “Is that who gave Luke the bad blood?”
“I’m not turning him back.”
“Wasn’t going to ask you to.” He grabs your arm and suddenly you’re in the hospital emergency room. You don’t talk to Ashton anymore after you sit in the uncomfortable plastic chairs. Instead, you watch the hospital doors waiting for Luke to be rolled in.
X-X-X
Something’s gone wrong from the time Luke’s been loaded into the ambulance until now. The emergency room doors slam open, horror filling your gut as you see Luke being held by an EMT while he convulses. “Oh my god, I didn’t get all the blood out.” Ashton clutches your arm tightly, tears spilling over as Luke is wheeled through double doors. You yank your arm away and turn on him. “What the fuck did you give him!” You stand angrily, other worried patrons turn towards you.
“I don’t know! He was my ingredient guy I didn’t know he’d have a bone to pick with vampires!”
“You got blood, from your dealer,” your voice goes low as you glare at him. “You do realize you probably just poisoned Luke with fucking dead man’s blood.” Ashton sits back down and puts his head in his hands.
“Fuck.” You pace the floor nervously, eyes on the double doors. The EMT’s that brought Luke in leave and you let out a frustrated sigh. You sit down next to Ashton and wipe away the tears on your cheeks. “Pidge, I’m so sorry.”
“Save it,” you snap. After what seems like and probably is hours, a doctor walks through the doors and walks toward you. You stand and walk to her. “How is he?”
“He’s sleeping right now. Mr. Hemmings is very lucky, considering he swallowed dead man's blood. You’re welcome to visit him now but just be warned he’s not going to be able to talk since we put a breathing tube in to help him since he’s so weak.” You nod, following the doctor silently to Luke’s room. She leaves right when you go to enter.
What surprises you the most is the slow heartbeat on the monitor. You sit down next to Luke, gently taking his hand in yours. As you watch Luke sleep, you realize you’re still in your pajamas, and that your bottoms are soaked in blood. “Ashton, will you go get me and Luke some clothes? Also his leather jacket with the red trim.” You look back when there’s no response and let your shoulders sag when you see Ashton’s gone.
You lean farther forward so you can card a hand through his curls. Luke doesn’t react, which is disturbing. Usually when you run a hand through his curls he’ll lean into it. Now he just remains still. Ashton returns, handing you a green cloth bag with clothes in it. You go to the bathroom and change, tossing your bottoms in the trash. “Ashton, where’s the leather jacket?” You walk out of the bathroom, snatching the jacket from Ashton’s hand. You put on the jacket, it feels like one of Luke’s hugs. It’s warm despite not being worn for a few days and smells like Luke’s cologne. You sit down again next to Luke again and take his hand.
“Jesus, you two should just get married.”
“What?” You laugh, looking at the red-haired warlock.
“You’re obviously in love with each other. You’re wearing his leather jacket like it’s yours and Calum told me you reeked of Luke at my party.”
“That’s just a protection thing. Luke was anxious after I got bit.” Ashton rolls his eyes but says nothing else. Luke starts to wake and you hold his hand tightly. His eyes widen and a panicked noise escapes him. “Luke it’s okay, you have a breathing tube in. The doctor said you were too weak to breathe on your own.” Tears spill down Luke’s cheeks and you brush them away. His hand tightly holds yours and you press the call button. “We’ll see about getting that tube out.”
The same doctor walks in and she smiles at you. “Hello Mr Hemmings, it’s good to see you awake. Are there any problems?”
“Can we get the tube taken out? It’s kinda freaking him out.”
“Well he’s awake and aware so let me call a nurse and we’ll take out the breathing tube.” Luke clenches your hand tightly and you nod.
“I’m gonna stay with you, it’s okay.” You watch as they remove the tube, a few tears falling down Luke’s cheeks when he gags on it. You let him clench your hand as hard as he wants to until the breathing tube is out.
Ashton leaves the room when the doctors leave and you sigh. Luke coughs, still staring up at the ceiling. “Do you want some water?” He nods, letting your hand go as you fill a small cup of water up. Luke messes with the bed until he can fully sit up, accepting the cup of water with shaking hands. He drinks greedily and when he’s done he pats the bed. “Really? I’m not sure if I’m allowed.”
“Please, I did just almost die.” His voice is hoarse, but he still smiles at you. You sit on the bed, turning slightly so you can see his face.
“It is too soon for you to be joking about that.” Luke laughs but winces at the pain in his throat. “Don’t talk if it hurts.”
“It’s fine,” Luke smiles, reaching out to grab your hand again.
“It’s not fine, you scared the shit out of me Luke.” You squeeze his hand, Luke squeezes back. “Don’t you dare do that to me again.” You move your hand to cup Luke’s cheek, brushing your thumb against his cheekbone.
“I don’t plan to Pidge, I’m sorry.” He tips his head into your hand, eyes glowing orange as he stares up at you.
“You hungry?” Luke nods and you pull your hand away from his cheek. “I’ll see about getting you some blood.” When you go to stand Luke grabs your wrist. His grip is weak, but it stops you. You sit back down and shake your head fondly. “Alright I’ll just press the call button then.” As you press the button Ashton walks in, a soft blush on his cheeks.
Luke watches Ashton sit down and smiles at him. “What’s got you so quiet?” He teases, Ashton’s about to reply when Luke’s doctor walks in and his blush intensifies. Luke jabs you in the side, gesturing at Ashton slyly.
“Is there a problem?”
“Can I get some blood please?”
“I actually want to talk about that with you. You’re a born vampire but your last ration collection was only enough blood for a bitten vampire. So I’m ensuring that you get enough blood by not only putting on your medical id that for health reasons you need more blood, but I’m also prescribing you a monthly live feeding.”
“I can’t do that. I can’t live feed.”
“I really can’t do anything else for you but this course of action. I can give you a pamphlet with a few live feeding clinics in the area.”
“No that’s okay, I’ll figure it out.” A nurse comes in with some blood, Luke snatches the blood up, drinking the bag quickly. He takes another one, “When can I leave?”
“After you drink all this blood. I’ll go get the discharge forms.” Luke nods, sucking on the blood bag eagerly. Luke still keeps his hand in yours but you can feel his grip becoming stronger as he drinks more blood.
“So Ashton, what about Luke’s doctor’s got you all blushy?” He glares at you and Luke from his chair. “Do you have a crush?” You tease, Luke giggles behind his blood bag.
“I’ll turn both of you into lemon trees I swear.”
“Okay, okay. We’ll stop bothering you about how you totally have a crush on Luke’s doctor.” When Luke laughs this time blood drips all down his face, he lets go of your hand to clean it up. Luke keeps drinking blood bags until he’s sleepy from how full he is. He looks at you with hooded eyes and a bloodstained smile.
X-X-X
“Hey, we need to talk,” you say a few days after Luke’s been out of the hospital. Luke looks at you from the couch, nodding as he sets the live feeding clinic pamphlet down. “We both have some important things to talk about.” Luke shifts, drawing his knees closer to his body to make room for you on the couch. “There’s something I haven’t told you.” Luke freezes, breath catching in his throat while he stares at you. “I’m not fully human. I’m half-fae.”
You watch a series of emotions cross over Luke’s face. It settles on a look of betrayal and confusion. He gets up from the couch, backing away from you. You stand as well, reaching for him, “Luke, let me explain.” He shakes his head, backing away to his room and closing the door. You head over and giggle the knob. “Luke, Luke let me in.” You call softly, resting your forehead against the door. “Please let me talk to you.”
The door remains shut and you hear Luke sink to the floor, his head thunking against the door. “Luke,” he doesn’t respond and you finally move away from the door. You disappear into your own room, sitting on your bed with a frustrated sigh. You push your hands through your hair.
That night you sit in bed with a book, a cold feeling in your chest as Luke’s door remains closed. The apartment is oddly silent, you’re used to at least being able to hear the television or Luke laughing. You feel a presence in the doorway and you look up. Luke is standing there, looking out of place despite the amount of times he’s climbed in your bed.
You set your book down and Luke moves so he sits on your bed. His eyes are slightly bloodshot and there are small bags under them. “You’ve been crying,” you reach for him but Luke pulls away, a hand up to guard himself.
“Why did you hide this from me?” He sounds so hurt and you wince.
“I didn’t intend to hide it, Luke. You never asked if I was anything else but human and you told all of your friends I’m human. Being half-fae was never a big part of my life until recently. My dad hated to talk about it and my mom was never around.” Luke nods, settling on the bed. “Are you mad at me?”
“I just wish you told me sooner. I feel like such an asshole.” You take his hand, Luke doesn’t flinch this time. “It’s my fault too, I was being implicitly biased just assuming you’re human.”
“Luke, we can put this behind us. It’s not a problem. It’s getting late, how about we go to bed?”
“Can I stay with you?” Luke rushes out. When you look at him he blushes. “I’m having nightmares and maybe they’ll… maybe they’ll stop if I spend the night with you.” When you don’t reply Luke blushes even more and ducks his head. “I’m sorry, it’s stupid. I’ll leave Pidge,” Luke goes to get up but you grab his wrist.
“Sorry, I just wasn't expecting that. Of course you can stay.” Luke smiles at you as the blush disappears. “You have to put on pajamas first.” Luke nods and hurries out of your room. When he comes back, you’re under the covers and cozy.
Luke flicks off the lights, crawling into your bed with a small smile. In typical Luke fashion he curls right up against you, hand gripping the hem of your shirt. As you start to close your eyes Luke gasps and his fingers curl around a feather, pulling lightly. “You have wings?”
“Shit Luke, stop pulling. Yes I have wings; they’re not strong though.” Luke looks into your eyes as his fingers hover over the soft feathers. “You can touch Luke, it’s okay.” Luke does, slowly petting your wing.
“They’re so soft, I love it. I can’t believe I’ve never noticed you have wings.”
“You’ve just never seen me naked Luke.” His gasp makes you giggle while he drags his hand away, letting it settle on the hem of your shirt. “No bad dreams tonight, okay?”

Luke grabs another towel from the linen closet. You’re trying not to laugh because this is a serious thing for him, but all the towels are unnecessary. Luke sets the last towel down and looks around. “Am I forgetting anything?” He goes through the list in his head before going to the bathroom.
Luke appears with bandages and he sets them down next to the towels. “Luke I’m positive you’ve got everything.” He freezes, eyes darting around while you sit in the middle of the towels. “You’re worrying too much.”
“I don’t want to hurt you.” Luke sits across from you, hands resting on his knees. You’re only in an old sports bra and a pair of Luke’s basketball shorts you’d stolen a while ago. Your wings are still pressed against your back. “Do you want me to pick where to bite you?”
“Wherever you feel most comfortable.” Luke’s fangs extend as his eyes land on your wrist. “How will you know when to stop feeding?”
“I can’t really explain it… it’s like I’m finally full. I’m gonna be really careful, I promise.” Luke takes your wrist gently, your heart beginning to race as he lifts it to bite. Luke seems to sense your increasing nervousness and puts your hand back down. “You don’t have to do this Pidge, I’ll go to the clinic.” Luke stands, offering a hand to help you up. “I understand if you aren’t ready for me to feed from you. You had someone bite you without your consent.”
You grab Luke’s hand and pull him back down. “Luke, I trust you, bite me already.” He lifts your wrist, about to bite down when someone knocks on the door. “Jesus fuck.” You lay on your back while Luke gets up. He takes a deep breath and then his eyes go wide.
Luke pulls the door open, glaring at the man on the other side. “What the fuck are you doing here?” The coldness in Luke’s voice makes you sit up, trying to peer over his broad shoulders.
“Well that’s not a nice way to greet your old nest mate.” Luke makes a low growling noise in his throat. “I came to warn you, Scott knows about your girlfriend. He’s still not happy about you leaving.”
“What do you mean?”
“Scott wants to hurt you for leaving the nest. Keep her close, who knows what Scott could do to her.”
“If you’re still loyal to the nest then why did you come to warn me?”
“Cause I should have left with you. You’re my best friend.” With that the stranger at the door leaves and Luke closes the door, locking it behind him.
“Luke?” He surges towards you, kneeling in front of you.
“Can I bite your neck?” You nod, barely getting to react when Luke sinks his teeth into your skin. It’s right over where you were bitten in the club.
You gasp when his fangs retract and Luke tips you back, a hand on the small of your back and the other supporting your head. You grab Luke’s hips, trying to open your eyes but failing to do so. His legs are right between yours and from the way he’s holding you your chests are pressed against each other. You’re sure Luke can feel your heart beating. His lips are pressed firmly against your neck and every so often his tongue flicks across the puncture wounds. “Luke,” you move a hand into his curls, tugging on them.
He growls against your neck, “Mine,” going back to drinking your blood. As he takes more, you feel the small scrape of his fangs against your skin. You feel high off it, wanting to stay like this forever. With Luke between your legs while his head is buried in your neck, hungry noises escaping his lips.
Luke pulls away and you whine, prying your eyes open to look into the brilliant red hue of his eyes. He smiles at you, lips stained with blood. You try to say something but the words won’t form. It makes Luke smile as he sets you on the towels. He grabs a bandage and places it over where he bit you. “Time for bed Pidge,” Luke scoops you up with ease and instead of fighting him you lay against his chest. Luke carries you to your room, placing you in the middle of the bed before getting up. “I gotta clean up and then I’ll be back, get comfy.” Your mouth opens but no words spill out, a dazed look in your eyes.
Luke returns fairly quickly and his eyes are back to a calming blue. There’s a shirt in his hands and he helps put it on you. Luke crawls in bed next, laying down but not pulling the covers up just yet. “Come here Pidge,” you roll towards him and Luke laughs again. The sound rolls through you. Luke places his hands on your waist and brings you the rest of the way over. You curl your hand around the soft material of Luke’s shirt as you tip your head onto his shoulder. Luke goes to speak but when he looks at you your eyes are closed, soft snores coming from your mouth. He smiles, pressing a kiss to the top of your head, “Sleep well Pidge.”
In the morning, Luke brings you breakfast. It’s from your favorite diner since Luke can’t cook without burning something. Luke sits on the edge of the bed while you eat the peanut butter & jelly french toast. “How are you feeling?”
“Good, much better now that you got me food.” Luke smiles, a blush rising up his cheeks. He doesn’t talk much while you eat, just sits there and smiles when you look at him. When you finish Luke speaks up, “I need to tell you something.” You set the tray of food to the side and turn your attention to Luke. “This might be confusing but I just need to get it all out. Before I met you I was in a nest. The leader of my nest, Scott ,he’s an old bitten vampire. When my family was killed, I don’t remember the year but it was a long time ago. Scott took me in. The nest became my family.” Luke crosses his arms and lowers his gaze to the covers. “My best friend, Michael, his family was killed too and because we’re both born vampires around the same age we lived together. Since we’re born vampires, we need more blood than bitten vampires and Scott would supply it. He’d… he’d bring us to the basement and we could always expect there would be people for us to feed from.
“The thing is though, you can tell when you’re full right? It’s a stomachache, but Scott, he would tell us to keep feeding. We weren’t allowed out of the basement until we’d drained whoever Scott brought us. Sometimes it would take days. Once I was down there for almost a month because Michael was so ill he wasn’t strong enough to feed. But Scott was family, and I was a kid so I didn’t know any better.
“When I was around eighteen I started to hear about vampires who could live off bagged blood. And I was so excited cause that would mean no more draining. So I brought it up to Scott and he,” Luke shakes his head and you grab his hand. You give it a small squeeze to reassure him. “Scott locked me in this unplugged freezer so I could learn a lesson. The inside of the door was coated in silver, so if I tried to get out I got burned.” You nod, you’ve noticed the small burn scars on the ulnar sides of his hands. “When Scott finally let me out, I was starving, and he’d put a girl out on the floor. I was so hungry Pidge, I couldn’t help myself. I drained her like it was nothing. I killed her.” You run your thumb down the small scar on Luke’s hand and he shudders. “I had to leave after that it was too much. I tried to get Michael to follow, but he was so loyal to the nest that he wouldn’t leave. So I snuck out one night, stole a shitload of money from Scott and fled. And that led me to you.”
You take a minute to think of a reply before looking Luke in the eyes. “Luke, I had no idea you went through all that. Why are you telling me this now?” Luke sighs and looks up at the ceiling, his eyes glimmer with unshed tears.
“Michael showed up yesterday. He said that Scott was coming, that he was mad that I left. Michael said he might go after you and I don’t-I can’t be the reason you get hurt.” His voice cracks as you squeeze his hand tightly. Luke tries to hold back the tears but they drip down his cheeks. You reach forward and wipe them away, pressing a delicate kiss to Luke’s forehead. “I’m going to keep you safe, I promise.”
“I trust you Luke,” your hands cup his cheeks and he leans forward, pressing your heads together. His arms wrap around your back tightly. You sit there for a while, letting Luke hold on to you as long as he needs. When he pulls away his eyes scan your face before pressing a kiss to your lips. It’s gentle but desperate and you grab his curls to keep kissing him.
Luke pulls you closer, making a noise as you deepen the kiss. Luke squeezes your hips and you pull away. He smiles so widely his eyes scrunch up. “Can I kiss you again?” You nod and Luke kisses you quickly. He giggles while pulling away. “How about I take you out sometime? We can go dragon riding, or go to dinner somewhere.” Luke shakes his head, “Nowhere with a lot of crowds, I don’t want to get jumped by Scott.”
“Dragon riding sounds fun,” Luke nods, slipping out of bed to go put the tray of food away. He returns, laying over your lap.
“I’ve wanted to kiss you for so long.” He confesses as you play with his curls. “After you got bit, when I was in the hospital, the first time we held hands. Just a really long time.” His cheeks go red and he looks away.
You place two fingers on his chin, turning his face back to yours. “I’ve wanted to kiss you for a long time too. I didn’t know vampires could blush this much,” you lean down and kiss his lips. “Your lips are very kissable, I think I could spend the rest of the day right here.”
“Can we? I’ll order some Chinese food for lunch and we can have the leftovers for dinner.” You nod and Luke leans up to kiss you again. His hands sneak under your shirt, playing with the soft feathers of your wings. You think you could stay here forever, kissing Luke while light streams in through the window. As your lips slide together, Scott is the last thought in your minds.
X-X-X
The next month is a blur of happiness. Dragon riding was exhilarating for you but Luke would rather not do it again. The height making him shake for quite a bit of time after dismounting the large dragon. You stick with dates much more close to the ground after that.
Ashton and Calum both roll their eyes when they come across you two sharing a chocolate bar while cuddled together on the couch. Ashton’s girlfriend, Peach thinks it’s adorable. One night while you’re coming back home you run down the hall while Luke chases after you. He catches up with you, slinging his arms around you before picking you up and twirling you around. The thought of Scott just a speck in the back of your minds.
Luke’s second monthly feeding comes, and he takes blood from the other side of your neck. He’s even needier than the first time, holding you close to him while you let out soft moans that have Luke gripping your hair tight. He’s even more gentle than the first time, pressing soft kisses to your head as he carries you to your bedroom. Luke’s room has barely been slept in since you’ve started dating. The next morning you have the same breakfast as last month and you share some of it with Luke. It makes him giggle and hum around your fork.
For that month, everything is fine.
A few weeks after Luke’s feeding something feels wrong. You and Luke can both sense it. He gets much more protective, always giving you his leather jacket before heading out and barely letting you out of his sight. On one occasion he hissed at Calum for getting too rough with you.
A while later Ashton calls Luke. It’s not uncommon since the warlock is typically bored while Peach is working in the hospital. His call is unsettling. Instead of Ashton’s cheery voice through the speaker, there’s only silence. “Ashton?” Luke sets his phone down on the island and his brow creases. Only silence crackles through the speaker but you hear a muffled shout in the distance before the call drops. Luke grabs his jacket, pulling it on before snatching his car keys up.
“Where are we going?” You ask as you pull your shoes on, trying to grab another one of Luke’s jackets. “Luke,” you grab his shoulder, squeezing it. “We’re in this together, tell me what’s going on.”
“I think Ashton is in trouble.”
“Okay, so let’s go make sure he’s not.” Luke nods and the two of you hurry out the door.
Ashton’s house is oddly quiet when you open the door. Luke puts himself in front of you, breathing in the air as he takes a step in. You grab Luke’s hand as the door shuts. The inside of Ashton’s house is a wreck. Objects that clearly don’t belong in a house are flung all around. “Luke there’s a dog,” you point at the large dog who is laying in a broken flowerpot. She smiles at you and lumbers over, trailing dirt around Ashton’s once pristine house.
A small smile breaks onto Luke’s face and he fights the urge to bend down and pet her. Luke tugs you forward, laying a towel down over some broken glass so the dog doesn’t get hurt. “Ashton, is everything okay?” Luke opens the master bedroom and your hand slips from his. As the two of you walk farther in, he takes a deep inhale, body stiffening. Luke walks away from you, blood coming into your view as he scans the room.
“Luke,” your voice is a whisper just as an arm wraps around your throat. There’s no time to shout when a needle slides into your neck, a drowsy feeling hitting you while the venom works into your bloodstream. Luke turns around at the scent of blood when the needle is removed.
His eyes are a blazing red as he walks forward, his tall frame is terrifying in your drugged state. Another needle drags against your neck, a voice right in your ear. “Now there Luke, I don’t think you want your friend to get hurt.” The voice sends a chill down your spine but you lean against them.
“If you hurt her I swear to god I’ll tear you apart.” Luke snarls, curling his hands into fists to stay in place.
“Oh don’t worry Luke, she won’t get hurt as long as you behave.” Luke’s gaze flits from Scott to you, then back to Scott. He nods, raising his hands up while keeping his eyes on you. You can barely focus on Luke as he takes a step forward. The needle presses farther into your skin, Luke stops moving. “You don’t want your friend to overdose on vampire venom now do you?” Luke shakes his head, fear creeping up his throat as you slump against Scott. Scott’s eyes burn into Luke’s before he presses on the stopper of the needle. Your eyes roll back as the needle clatters to the ground.

All he can do is breathe. Breathe and try not to scream at the pain spreading down from his wrists. Luke’s trying to hold himself together as best he can while hunger gnaws at him. He doesn’t know where you are; he hasn’t seen you since Scott had chained him in the basement. Luke lets out a shudder, his arms straining from their raised position. He hears someone walking down the stairs, his heart stopping at every thud of the boots on the steps.
Scott looks down at Luke and he feels like a kid again. He wants to disappear from existence. Luke fights down his fear and looks Scott dead in the eyes. “Where is Pidge?” His voice cracks from not being used. Scott laughs at Luke, his voice echoing across the cold basement.
“Is she really all you care about? I’d be more worried about your wellbeing. This codependents you have is… pathetic.” Luke snarls, yanking on the silver chains as he lunges forward. Scott doesn’t even step back. “Luke if you’re going to misbehave we’re going to have problems.”
“Fuck. You.” The older vampire tilts his head to the side while Luke heaves. He sits back to reduce the burning in his wrists. Scott grabs something off his hip, bringing it towards his mouth.
“Break her leg.” Before Luke can process what Scott said, gut-wrenching screams echo through the small item in Scott’s hand. Then Luke starts cursing. His words don’t make sense but Luke’s blood is boiling in hot anger. Scott doesn’t listen to Luke’s screams any longer, disappearing up the stairs and leaving Luke in pitch black.
Luke stills before tugging harshly on his chains. The silver sears his skin, and he stops tugging. “Fuck,” he curses, trying to relieve the pain in his arms. Luke wants to squirm out of his skin and run far away.
Days go by, or at least Luke thinks they have. Time’s slipped together so quickly for him but it’s common for vampires to lose track of time. Maybe it’s been years and you’re dead from Scott’s hand. The door opens at the top of the stairs and the light practically blinds Luke. He snaps his eyes closed but he feels the light recede. Luke keeps his eyes shut until he feels a hand press against his cheek.
Michael stands over him. “I don’t have much time down here but I need you to know that I’m going to help you get out”.
“Why?” Luke’s voice is quiet and scratchy as he stares up at Michael.
“I can’t tell you now, but I’ve got your back. I told you I should have escaped when you left.”
“Where’s Pidge?”
“I don’t know, Scott’s fledglings are keeping her somewhere in the house I’m not allowed to go. I’ll find out okay?” Luke nods, wincing at the pain in his wrists, “Listen, I told Scott I was here to rough you up. So I gotta make that believable. You understand, right?” Luke sighs as Michael rolls his sleeves up. “I’ll make it quick.” Luke braces himself for the punch, arms quivering slightly in the tight chains as the blow lands just on his cheekbone. He groans, his eye clenched tightly shut while Michael apologizes quietly.
He disappears up the stairs, rubbing his sore knuckles. Luke is bathed in darkness again, his face throbbing as he sits in blackness. His eye is already swelling shut from the punch. Blood falls down the side of his cheek in a slow stream, dripping to the concrete floor. It only takes a few minutes for the sound to drive Luke crazy. Luke closes his eyes, tears forming in them. All he can do is breathe again.
X-X-X
Light floods the basement and Luke winces. It makes his eyes burn with tears, a headache starting to form as more lights turn on. “Get the fuck off me asshole!” Your voice echoes down the stairs, Luke’s heart leaps for a moment.
Luke remains still, listening to the uneven creak of the stairs as his heart thumps rapidly in his chest. A hand rests against his cheek and his eyes blink open. “Hi Pidgey,” his voice is weak but you crack a small smile, brushing your thumb over the bruise.
“You dork,” your eyes flick up to his hands. “Oh Luke, is that silver?” Your hand moves up to feel the chains and his hands jerk. You move your hands back to his face, his swollen eye closing. “Are you in pain?”
“Lots,” he exhales, leaning into your touch. “Your leg, does it hurt?”
“It’s splinted, they’re keeping me fed.” You watch Luke nod, his eyes burn orange. “You’re hungry you should bite me.” His head shakes even though you both know he’s very close to feral.
“You need to be aware not hopped up on vampire venom. Pidge you have wings, you can go out a window and fly away.”
“And leave you here, Luke I’m not doing that.”
“I’m not important.”
“Bullshit.” You press your lips to Luke’s, he wants to hold you, to feel you against his skin instead of the cold silver. “You’re one of the most important people in my life. I’m not leaving you here. We’re gonna get out of here together.” Luke rests his forehead against yours as you card a hand through his matted curls.
“Scott wants to hurt me, if you’re not here he can’t hurt me.” He kisses you, chapped lips brushing against yours. “He’s going to try and hurt you. He did hurt you to hurt me.” Luke’s arms shake in the chains, he can’t feel them. You pull away, pulling two bobby pins out of your hair. Luke watches you bend and twist the pins before sticking them into the lock of his chains.
“This might pinch a little,” Luke winces as the chains come off, his arms falling at his side before he tips over. His wrists are raw, the skin red from the silver burning him. You pull him into your lap, broken leg stretched out in front of you. You rub his arms, trying to get feeling back in them. The release from the pain washes over Luke like a tidal wave. He moans at the relief.
His hand weakly curls at the material of your shirt, barely grasping it with his fingers. You smile down at him, stroking your hand down the side of his face. Luke can feel oxytocin spreading down his body as you touch his skin. He didn’t realize how touch starved he’s become since being locked in the basement.
The door to the stairs opens and you both freeze. “Chain me back up,” Luke whispers, voice cracking. “Pidge they’ll hurt you, chain me back up.” Luke sits up, hissing at the pain in his knees. You flinch at the click of the chains around his wrists, hiding your bobby pins in your shoe. “I’m okay, I’m okay.” The pain lacing his voice tells you he’s not. You freeze as boots hit the bottom of the steps, your hands resting on Luke’s face to calm him down when he winces. A hand grabs your hair just as Luke’s breath catches in his throat. Luke refrains from shouting as you’re pulled away from him.
A knife presses against your throat, silencing any of Luke’s protests. His hands tug at the silver chains weakly. “I’d be careful Luke, you wouldn’t want to make this worse for your little Pidge would you?” Luke shakes his head slowly, mouth hanging open. “Good because this is already going to be painful.”
“Please don’t,” the sound Luke makes is one of the saddest you’ve heard. The knife twirls around just inches away from your throat. It cuts into the fabric of your shirt, exposing your shoulder and bra strap. Your pulse spikes as the blade cuts into your skin. You watch Luke’s eyes turn bright red as blood starts spilling down your collarbone. “Don’t touch her!” Scott laughs while Luke pulls on the chains again.
“That would ruin all the fun though.” Scott’s lips press to the cut, lapping up the blood. Instead of the high you get when Luke drinks from you, pain cuts through your body. There’s no venom to soothe you as Scott drinks. “I see why you like her so much, she tastes amazing.” Luke hisses while Scott goes back to sucking your blood. You struggle against Scott, feeling a hand wrap around your throat while the knife is held against your stomach. Your head goes light as your throat is constricted, making the whole room go fuzzy.
You barely notice the knife sliding against your throat until lips press against the cut. You groan, squirming against the tight grip around you. “Stop!” Luke screams, it makes your eyes flutter open. Scott just smirks against you, taking another deep drink.
Luke feels himself panicking with every drink Scott takes. He can see your skin pallor while you slump over. Luke grabs his left thumb with his right hand, pulling it back until there’s a snap. He holds back a groan of pain, pulling his left hand out of the chain with a whine. Luke stands, grabbing the silver chain around his right hand, pulling it despite the pain. He pulls, using all the strength he can muster until the chain breaks.
The clatter distracts Scott who looks up at Luke with a murderous look on his face. He lets go of you, your body slumping to the floor. Scott stands up, twirling the silver knife in his hands. Luke doesn’t hesitate, surging forward. His fist collides with Scott’s face, pain shooting up his left hand. Adrenaline and anger courses through Luke, one thought running through his head; he has to kill Scott. He knows he’ll most likely lose, the only weapon he has is the silver chain still locked around his wrist. With a scream, Luke swings the chain at Scott, grunting as Scott grabs the chain.
He pulls Luke forward, his knife sliding into Luke’s side up to the hilt. The silver burns him from the inside out as the knife is pulled out. “You’re weak Luke,” Scott drives the knife in again, eyes alight as the wind is knocked out of the young vampire. Luke sinks to his knees as the knife slides out of his torso. He coughs, pain echoing all over his body. Scott turns around, walking towards you.
On shaking legs Luke stands, stumbling forward. He gathers the chain in his broken hand, lunging at Scott to pull the chain taut around his throat. Luke can feel the silver burn his hands as he tightens his grip on the chain. Scott chokes but Luke doesn’t relent. He falls to his back while the two of them thrash around. Luke fights to keep his grip on the chain, his heart beating rapidly in his chest. The weight above him gets heavier and the thrashing stops. Luke keeps the chain around Scott’s neck for a few moments before rolling him off. He stares at Scott’s body, trying to gauge if he’s still alive. His fingers prod at Scott’s neck, not feeling a pulse. Relief washes over him, drowning out the pain as tears lick down his cheeks.
Luke crawls towards you with the little strength he has left. “Pidgey, we’re gonna be okay,” he gasps for air as your eyes flutter, black dots starting to cloud his vision. “You’re gonna be okay,” Luke’s voice fades as he falls to the cold floor.
X-X-X
There’s a hand holding his, a thumb stroking the back of it. Lips press against his cheekbone, lingering there for a moment. Luke tries to open his eyes, the hospital lights causing his vision to go blurry. “Pidge?” His eyes open the rest of the way. Your other hand comes up, cupping his cheek. “You’re okay.”
“I’m okay,” Luke tries to lean over but pain spreads up his whole side. “You’re not though, don’t move so much.” Luke coughs, feeling something something stuck in his throat. He goes to ask what it is but you beat him to it. “They gave you an NG tube babe,” Luke turns his head to the left, staring at the blood flowing through the tube. The door to the room opens, Peach walking in. Her maroon scrubs make her look even smaller as she holds your charts.
A few interns file in behind her. “Luke, good to see you awake. Who wants to go over the details of the case?” Peach doesn’t turn around but hands shoot up. “Riley?”
“Luke Hemmings, came in with silver burns and multiple stab wounds, and severe malnutrition. Pidge Martin, she came in with a comminuted fracture in her leg and there were signs of an attempted draining.”
“And what course of action did we take?”
“Well we didn’t treat Ms. Martin, you bitched at the chief of surgery until he let them share a room together. With Mr. Hemmings he had a perforated stomach, so we had to reconstruct his stomach lining.” Peach goes a bit red but her face remains stoic.
“Alright that’s enough. How are you feeling Luke?”
“My side aches a little, do I have to have a feeding tube?” He pouts at Peach while you squeeze his hand.
“Unfortunately no, you’re still malnourished. Until those orange eyes go away, the tube stays in.” She nods her head at the two of you before leaving the room, her interns following behind like puppies.
“How long was I out?” Luke rests his head on your shoulder, blinking up at you.
“A few days, surgery wiped you out.” You brush a few curls out of his eyes and kiss the top of his head. “But you’re okay now, you don’t have to worry anymore.” You let out a yawn, resting your head on top of Luke’s. Luke holds your hand tightly as you both drift back off, relieved that he’s back next to you.
X-X-X
You wake up to the other side of the bed shaking. Luke is tossing and turning, small noises escaping his mouth. You sit up, groaning as your leg moves. Luke’s hands are still bandaged up while his left hand is in a cast. Tears work down his cheeks as you wipe them away. “Lu, baby, please wake up.” You watch him turn again fitfully and put a hand on his shoulder. The touch makes him wake with a start, a gasp escaping his lips. He sits up, wiping at his eyes. “Another nightmare?”
“Yeah,” his voice cracks as he rests his head on your shoulder. Ever since you’ve gotten back from the hospital Luke’s been plagued with nightmares. It’s caused many sleepless nights for him as you both try to recover from the whole ordeal. “I didn’t get to you in time.” You know what he means and lace your hands together.
“But you did, and we’re okay now. A little broken, but that’s okay, we’ll heal.” You squeeze his hand, he squeezes back. “Scott can’t hurt you anymore.”
“Cause I killed him.”
“Out of self defense. We’d both be dead if you hadn’t killed him.” You turn his cheek towards you, kissing his lips lightly. “I’ll never understand what he did to you growing up but I promise I’ll be here for you. Whatever you need.” Luke tips his head forward, your noses brushing against each other. His eyes close, his right eye still partially bruised. He lets out a shaky sigh, flinching at the knock on the door. “Come in,” you pull away from Luke as the door opens.
Michael walks in, smiling a little. “Uh, I just wanted to know if either of you were hungry.”
“I think we’re good Michael, but thanks for asking.” He nods a few times before exiting your room. Luke goes back to nuzzling into your skin but you stop him. “Is Michael okay?” You’re a bit worried about the other vampire in your apartment.
“He’ll be fine, he’s just adjusting to living without a nest. Even though he might not have enjoyed living in the nest, there’s still a deep connection there. It took me ages to get over that connection once I left.” You caress his cheek, a question on the tip of your lips.
“When did you leave the nest?”
“Well I was eighteen in human terms so… wait when did the Vietnam War start?”
“Shit, you left in the fifties?”
“That sounds about right, cause I found Ashton’s family in the 70’s I think. That’s when I got over the connection too. My family and Ashton’s family have always worked together. A sort of vampire/warlock alliance.” He laughs softly, “It’s kinda cool, I know a little bit about some warlocky things now. Like I can make potions and do cleansing rituals.”
“You sound like someone who buys too much Essential Oils.”
“Hey,” he giggles, his fangs peeking out to playfully bite at you. “You like when I buy those.” You crack a grin as he pouts at you.
“Okay vampire boy,” that makes him bite at you again, teeth clashing together. “So if you met Ashton’s family in the seventies, does that mean you saw Ash grow up?”
“No, he was older than me when I met him. I didn’t meet him until after the war though. Did you know he was drafted?” You shake your head, Luke gets a solemn look on his face. “He didn’t like me when we met. But uh we talked a lot about our pasts and then he kinda became my older brother. When I went to go look for my family, he gave me an enchanted necklace that would lead me to wherever he was. And I spent about thirty years looking for them and found nothing so I came home.”
“I thought you said your family died when you were a kid, that that’s how Scott got you?”
“I mean, that’s what Scott told me, that my family had been killed. I was just a kid, and he was a bitten vampire so I trusted him. But when I got out, I thought that it might not be true. Or maybe one of my brothers had lived. So I searched all up the East Coast for them and then followed my family tree all the way back to Europe looking for some shred of evidence that I had someone. But they were all gone, so I came back to America and Ashton had moved to LA so that’s where I went.” His brow furrows for a second before smiling at you. “But hey, I got to meet you and that’s one of the best things to happen to me.”
“You can’t unload all that onto me and then say I’m one of the best things to happen to you. Do you want me to cry?” Luke turns to you, eyes scanning your face.
“But… but you are Pidge,” he ducks his head, “A lot has happened to me and really the only times I’ve had a bit of peace was when I lived with the Irwin’s and with you.” You grab his face and kiss him hard. Luke makes a surprised noise, melting into the kiss while you run your fingers through his curls. You pull away, giving him another quick kiss. “I love you,” Luke whispers, his hand coming up to caress your face. You stare at him for a moment, Luke’s face screwing up in worry as you don’t reply. “I’m sorry, I said it too soon. I just thought that, after everything it felt right to-”
“Luke, hey, I love you too.”
X-X-X
You stand in the doorway to your bedroom, watching Luke stare at himself in the full-length mirror. His fingers prod at the scars on his stomach. This is the third time you’ve caught him like this. You’ve caught him rubbing at the burn scars on his wrists even more. “Luke,” he turns around, arms around his stomach. “Come with me for a second.”
He follows you to the living room where you sit him down on the floor. “Okay, I’ve been going to some more classes about Fae magic and I’m pretty sure this is going to help you a bit.” You sit up on your knees and smile. “Uncross your arms, I’m going to have to touch you for this.” You watch Luke hesitantly uncross his arms, curling his hands into small fists. “Do you want to lay down? It might make you more comfortable.”
“What are you gonna do?” Luke asks as you sit next to him. You put your hands over the scars, Luke jumps up, hands holding your wrists in an unbelievably tight grip. “No,” you gasp at his voice and his grip drops. “Sorry,” he crosses his arms over his stomach again. “I’m not ready for my stomach to be touched yet.”
“No no I’m sorry Lu, I should have asked.” You keep your hands on your thighs and swallow. “I’ve been practicing on some healing magic with one of the older women at the center and I asked her about scars and she taught me how to heal them.” You pull down the side of your shirt, revealing your collarbone. “Well, she kinda did it on me first. She said that the magic you dig into really only affects the scars that hurt you the most.” Luke nods, so you continue, “I know that your stomach has been bothering you so I was thinking that this would help.”
“Thank you, I’m just not ready for that. It makes me think of being back there.” Suddenly, his phone alarm goes off. He reads the screen and groans. “I have to go to the hospital for another live feed.” He gets up, looking for a shirt and throwing it on quickly.
“You know you can feed from me Luke.”
“No, can’t do that yet. It’s…” you know what he’s going to say so you just nod. “I have to go, I’ll be back home soon,” he kisses you quickly. “Love you, bye.”
Michael walks in a few minutes later. You’re still on the floor. “This looks oddly familiar,” he flops on the couch. “What’s up, you look weird.”
“I’m just getting used to Luke being a little skittish.”
“He went through a lot, you both did. Everyone reacts differently to something like that.” You get up onto the couch, listening to Michael intently. “It was really bad having to go down there and see him not know what day it was or if it was night or day. Time slips together easily when you’re a vampire; it’s even easier when you’re bitten not born. They treated you a lot better than Luke.”
“I know that, I saw what Scott did to him. I hear it every night when he wakes up screaming.” You let out a frustrated sigh, “I’m trying to be strong for him because he had it so much worse than I did. But some nights I wake up before him terrified that I’m back in the attic with five hungry fledglings who would feed off me until I passed out.” Michael’s face goes blank as you look back at him.
“I didn’t know they fed on you.” You cross your arms and hug your knees. “You need to tell Luke.”
“That’s the last thing I need to do. He’d never feed from me again.” You look back at Michael and finally get up on the couch so the two of you can face each other.
Michael nudges his feet against yours. “Do you really want him to feed from you again after everything that’s happened?”
“I love when Luke feeds from me. He’s gentle and brings me breakfast the next day when I’m getting over the haze. I’ve been bitten without consent before, before Luke even bit me for the first time.” You pick at a thread in the couch cushion before looking at Michael. “I know it sounds weird but when he feeds from me I feel protected.” Michael grabs your hand as you shudder. “And I… I need to feel that way again. But Luke isn’t ready to bite me yet and he may never want to again. I’m just so, so worried that I’ll never get rid of this hole inside my chest, that I’m never going to feel safe again.” Tears are trailing down your cheeks before you realize, Michael pulls you into a hug.
You grab his shirt, fingers clenching the fabric tightly. Michael lets you cry against him, rubbing your back while you sob. “You need to tell Luke how you’re feeling Pidge.” Your sobs increase, your body shaking against Michael’s as all the fear from Scott’s pours out of you.
“He’s not ready,” your voice breaks as you try to get the words out.
“Pidge think about yourself for once.” His hands card through your hair. “Tell him how you’re feeling. He’s scared that if he bites you he’ll hurt you.” You still cry in his arms, body shaking.
“Pidge?” You freeze at Luke’s voice. “Pidgey what’s wrong?” His hand rests on your knee as he sits in front of you. Your sobs get harsher, not moving your face from where it’s hidden in Michael’s shirt. Luke rubs his hand up and down your thigh as he looks at Michael in confusion. He’d only been gone for an hour. He moves to sit behind you on the couch, hands slipping under your shirt to pet your wings. Your body jerks at the touch and he pulls away.
He needs to make things better, but he doesn’t know how. It makes anxiety creep up into his face until it feels like he’s burning. “Pidgey, please talk to me.” Michael whispers something in your ear before pulling himself away from you. He doesn’t say anything before leaving. Your shoulders still shake, arms wrapped around your stomach to try and calm yourself. Luke has to restrain himself from trying to hold you. He can hear your shuddering breaths and how fast your heart is beating. “Pidge.”
“I’m fine. I’m fine. Everything is okay.”
“It’s not.” Luke doesn’t mean for his voice to sound so pained. He just wants to hold you until you stop crying. A few tears of his own slip down his cheeks. When he sniffles you turn around, watching him rub at his eyes.
“Why are you crying?” Your voice is soft and a bit hoarse.
“Because you’re crying and I wanna make things better but I don’t know how!” Luke whines as he rubs his eyes to try and stop crying. “I’m not good at this. Can I hold you please?” You nod, letting yourself fall into his chest as his arms lock around your back.
Your head lays on his chest, tears slowing as you listen to the slow thump of Luke’s heart. Luke’s hand runs between your wings, the motion soothing you. “Luke,” he makes a noise to acknowledge you. “I… I need you to bite me again.” His body tenses under yours, hands stopping their path on your back.
“What?”
“I need you to bite me. Not today but the next time you live feed. It makes me feel safe.” Luke sighs, his other hand coming to card through your hair.
“I don’t want to hurt you.”
“You won’t,” you pull away to look at him. “I know you won’t Luke.” You kiss him shortly. “Maybe you only feed from me one more time and if you still don’t want to after that I’ll be okay.”
Luke huffs, adjusting your body on his. “It’s hard… biting people that aren’t you. It’s like they taste wrong. I want to bite you so badly, but I’m scared.” You stroke his curls softly, “I think we could do it again but if I want to stop we stop, okay?”
“As long as you get me breakfast in the morning I’ll be okay.” That makes Luke giggle as the two of you lay together. “Let’s move to the bedroom yea, so we can be more comfy?” Luke scoops you up with ease and carries you there. You lay together until the light in the sky has faded to purple, the sound of Michael’s music filtering into your room.

The days leading up to Luke’s next feeding are filled with anxious excitement. Mostly from you, Luke is just anxious. Michael’s ditched the apartment so he doesn’t go crazy from the scent of your blood and doesn’t make Luke too territorial. Apparently they’d fought over blood before when they were locked in the basement of Scott’s.
You keep watching Luke fluttering around and trying to grab all the pillows in the apartment in one trip. “Babe… what are you up to?” His eyes flit to you before he gestures to the pillows. “Yes, I can see you have all our pillows but what are you doing with them?” Luke doesn’t respond, just adjusts the pillows in his arms before dropping them on the floor.
He drops to the floor, arranging the pillows until he’s satisfied. You nudge one with your foot and he grumbles and readjusts the pillow. You nudge it again and he grumbles again. “Is this one of your weird feeding things? Making a pillow nest?”
“This is cause I can.” You laugh, covering your mouth with a hand as Luke turns to glare at you.
“If you get my blood on them you’re cleaning it up.”
“Of course,” you watch him grab the cushions off the couch and flop them down too.
“So are you going to bite me now or are you going to keep me on my toes?” You sling your arms around his shoulders, giggling when he stands up so your feet don’t touch the floor.
“I’d rather sweep you off your feet.” You just know he has a cheesy grin on his face. You drop to the floor and fall onto the pillows. Luke follows, bracketing your body with his arms. “You should take your shirt off.” You tug it off, watching Luke sigh as he takes in your exposed skin. “Can I take this slow?” Luke’s thumb brushes your hip.
“Take it as slow as you want.” He nods, lips pressing against your skin just under your belly button. Luke presses slow kisses up your body, dodging the band of your bra before continuing his path up your left collarbone and attaching his lips to your neck.
You can feel the brush of his fangs as he kisses your sweet spot. You moan slightly, getting louder when his fangs slide into your skin. Luke braces himself over you as his venom sinks into you. You relax into the pillow as Luke latches back onto your neck. You grab his shoulder, your nails sinking into his skin. You can hear him hungrily sucking your blood, his hands moving to cup your waist and shoulders. Luke pulls away from you, staring into your eyes. “Can I move you?” He waits for your nod to sit up, pulling you into his lap and sinking his teeth back in.
Luke holds your head up, feeling much more comfortable now that you’re so close to him. Your arms encircle his broad back, clinging to him as the venom finally takes hold, leaving your head dizzy. Your whole body relaxes against Luke’s, head falling to his shoulder while his tongue plays with the wounds in your neck. It feels amazing, like this is where you’re supposed to be. With your body pressed against Luke’s while he nuzzles you. The haze gets stronger, your arms fall from Luke’s back. He pulls his mouth away from your neck, kissing up to your jaw and leaving faint bloodstains. “Bed now,” Luke’s voice is deep in your ear while his lips brush against your cheek.
You stay slumped on his shoulder, making small displeased noises when he moves to grab a baby wipe. Luke wipes at the bloodstains on your skin. You grumble when he moves away again. “Easy Pidgey, I’m just taking care of you.” Luke’s eyes are still a boiling red as he grabs a blanket, lifting you up and setting you on it. He wraps you in it like a swaddled baby before picking you up and carrying you to bed. “I know you can’t really talk right now but… I think we could do this again.” You smile hazily at him, watching Luke laugh and kiss your forehead. “I love you Pidge. Go to sleep.” Your lips form around the words but you can’t say them. Luke just chuckles and kisses your head again.

“That is not peanut butter french toast Mr. Hemmings.” You scold as Luke shows you the stack of pancakes.
“I’d thought it’d be fun to switch it up.” He pouts at you, pushing the pancakes forward.
“You were wrong,” Luke pouts even harder and you roll your eyes. “It’s fine Luke, I’m teasing you.” He perks up immediately and sits behind you, tugging the food forward. “These better be damn good pancakes though.” Luke laughs, kissing the side of your face fondly. You turn your head to the side, looking at Luke in the eyes. “I love you,” your lips slide together softly, tasting toothpaste. You rest against Luke’s chest, letting him feed you with giggles.
When breakfast is over, Luke keeps trailing his hands up and down your hips, his head perched on your shoulder. “We should take a vacation.” He mumbles, his hands still moving up and down your sides. You don’t react, wanting him to go on. “Just to get away from it all for a while, no doctor’s appointments or therapy sessions, just the two of us.”
“Where are you thinking?”

The warm Italian sun shines on your skin. Down below, gondoliers row tourists around the canals of Venice. A warm weight settles against your back, arms crossing over your stomach. “Where should we go after this my love, Paris, Athens, Berlin?” Being in Venice has turned Luke into quite the romantic. His lips pepper kisses onto your shoulders as you gaze down at the canal from the Juliet balcony.
“Greece sounds lovely, but you should show me where you’re from. I want to learn about your family.” Luke’s grip on your waist tightens, his trail of kisses stopping for a brief moment. “We could travel up through Italy and make our way around Europe, be like those gap year college students but still have some respect.” That makes him relax and settle back against you. “Do you think Michael’s managed to burn the apartment down yet?”
“Who cares, all that matters right now is that we’re together.” He turns you around, pressing a gentle kiss to your lips.
“When did you become such a sap?” As you look at Luke you realize he’s only wearing the white sheet from your bed. His blue eyes sparkle, hands encircling your wrists.
“Must be you and this Mediterranian air.” You roll your eyes as he tugs you back into the apartment. As you walk in the sheet falls from his waist, neither of you care. Really, Luke just smiles more. You escape his grip, hands going to his chest and pushing him onto the bed. He perches onto his elbows, watching you take off his oversized button up and your panties. You climb onto his lap, pushing him flat against the mattress with the tips of your fingers. “What are you going to do?”
“Ride you.”
“Sounds great,” Luke lets out an ‘oof’ as you slap his chest. “I can eat you out first if you want,” he lets out a sudden moan as you sink down on him. “Or you could just do that, fuck.” You roll your hips, loving the stretch of having Luke inside you. Luke’s hands grab your thighs, trailing them up to your hips. Your hands lock into place on his chest, using Luke as a brace as you rock back a forth.
Luke’s fingertips dig into your sides with abnormal strength as he throws his head back. He starts lifting you up and down on his cock, moaning loudly. “Fuck Luke, don’t hold me so hard.” He releases your hips, opening his eyes to see bruises already forming where he was holding. He rubs at them softly, gasping when you rock down on him hard. “You like that baby? Like me riding you until you cum inside?”
“Yea, yea. Pidge oh my god, faster.”
“Can’t go faster babe.” Luke growls, lifting you off him and tossing you onto the bed. He climbs the rest of the way on the bed and forces you into the middle. He pins your wrists to the bed, entering you quickly. The pace Luke sets is unlike anything you’ve felt before. He’s fast and brutal, fucking into you so quickly it feels like you can’t breathe. “Holy… holy shit, oh my god.” Luke bends his head down, biting at your skin and sucking desperate hickies where his teeth land.
His hips slow, letting you gasp for air as he rocks in and out of you. Luke’s trying to hold back moans, biting his lip while your hands go for his curls. You pull his head down, connecting your lips in a messy kiss with moans sliding between you and too much teeth. Your skin is damp with sweat, legs feeling like jelly where they rest on Luke’s hips. “Love you so much,” you whisper as he rocks against you. Your climax hits first, your nails scratching Luke’s back as he hits his own release at the sensation. As the high fades he slips out of you and lands on his back next to you.
You’re both breathless, chests heaving as you lay in your own sweat while the Venitian breeze blows in through the open windows. You tuck yourself into Luke’s side and trace shapes along his chest. His hand comes to card through your hair, eyes lidded in a post-sex haze. “So where should we go next?” You murmur, chuckling softly when it takes a few moments for him to respond.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, you just gave me one of the best orgasms ever. It’s only fair you get to pick the next place we go.” Luke laughs, a bit more awake as you stroke his ego.
“So I keep giving you mind blowing orgasms and I get to pick where we go next?” He kisses you sweetly while your hand trails over the scars on his stomach. They don’t bother him as much anymore. You nod with a giggle as he rolls over so he’s laying on top of you. “Let’s see Australia, it’s winter there right now so the temperature will be bearable.”
“Australia it is.”
