A Winter Masquerade Party

hello! I wanted to start an event for the fantroll community!! This is my first event, so there's not much of a schedule!!!

This'll be a winter themed masquerade party at )(IC's palace (all castes allowed, but no weapons, and you must be dressed for the party!! Formal Attire!)

Dec 16th - 22nd -> Invitations and Preparation

* what will they wear?

* will they invite someone(s) to attend with them?

* do they have any plans for the party?

Dec 23rd - 30th -> Arrival & Departure

* Arrival at the party!! Are they nervous?

* Do they dance? Do they chat? maybe... cause problems for other guests?

* Do they leave early..? Stay the whole night?

* Are they happy about what happened in the halls? Are they conflicted, sad, confused?

12th Perigee Ball Theme Voting

Hi everyone! It's that time of year again!

The 12th Perigee ball is coming up and thus - it's time to pick our themes! This year we've curated a small list of themes to allow you, the ballgoers, to select and shape the future of the 2024 ball!

Without further ado, here is the list of possible themes to choose from! The summaries will be below so you will know a rough idea of what to expect and dress for!

Musical Eras - Music, pop cultures, an emphasis on the audio arts, cultural influences and their range from classical to metal to pop.

Midwinter's Night's Dream - Fairies, fae, and the wee folk that live in the woods. Guests can choose to be part of the Seelie or Unseelie court, or a seasonal court - or something else entirely. (this is flavor text ONLY for people to choose a faction. It will have NO influence on the ball mechanics itself. FUN ONLY)

Fitted with Fauna - Animal inspired, feathers, furs, animal silhouettes, either to be an animal or live amongst them

Majesty and Mythos - Royalty, dragons, myths, gods and legends. Classic tales of women in lakes distributing swords and gods born out of seafoam

Far, far away from any city, deep in the wild woods nestled at the base of a mountain, there stood a quaint little home. A tiny thing, just big enough for the alchemist that lived within its simple stone walls. Many trolls passed by this area, scarcely thinking of the little trail leading to this cottage, and many more never imagining there was anyone there - just as the alchemist wished.

He lived a quiet life yet was one of the finest to walk the land, with a list of accolades longer than the Empress's own hair. Yet when his own peers decided to foist the troubles of hosting their magical winter reunion ball onto him, how could he say no? He could handle it as he could handle any feat of his craft!

Laboring through three days and nights of toil, he prepared the spell to transform his cottage into a mansion perched on a heart-shaped lake. With a shocking display of sparks and light, the cosmos itself molding itself to his words, it bloomed! Pine trees twisted and cracked, flattening themselves into wooden walls and doors, vines twisting and hardening into filigree that mice - transformed into little rustbloods by the alchemist's magic - promptly painted a burnished gold.

Boulders kneaded themselves into flat planes of stained glass and carved steps that curved and spiraled in on themselves to reach the highest floors. Sparks of magic, captured in glimmering glass cages, hung on the walls as lights, while the grass itself knitted into dyed rugs narrating the alchemist's most grand achievements! At the end, the once-simple cottage holding the alchemist's worldly treasures turned into a grand amphitheater of decadence! A marvelous mansion and sprawling gardens, hand-sculpted by alchemical arts - could anyone expect anything else but the finest work? But the spell wasn't quite complete.

It required one more vital component to embrace the peak of its arcane potential: it needed the thrilled hearts of hundreds of guests eager to enjoy themselves on a winter's night, bound to the passion of a Winter Royal Crowning of a King and Queen, stitched to the spell itself by a Couturier.

Who was to say the alchemist couldn't take advantage of his fellows' desires to feed his own spell?

So it began! Fingers glowing with residual magic, for two nights the alchemist frantically wrote invites to any and all trolls he could find. From the lowest rusts in the humblest hiveblocks to the Empress Herself, countless invites were sent out, every one sparking and glowed from the magic infused within.

Come one, come all! Come in your finest robes and amulets, to show to everyone that you have what it takes to become the core of an alchemist's spells for the festive season.

None of the guests would have to worry about reaching the mansion when the time came, as the roads and trails through the dark, dense woods were marked with floating orbs that illuminated the seaglass-like pavers - and snow drifted lightly from the heavens, gleaming like the stars above as it settled on the ground below.

As guests walk, they may almost be afraid of what they saw as the trees seemed to lean in over them, each trunk crowding into one other to get a glimpse of who was arriving until they almost seemed to meld together. Then, they began to twist. Each tree and branch seemed to meld together in unnatural ways to create arches and bridges and - were those faces and bodies?

Truly, how resplendent! As the guests arrived to the courtyard of the snow capped mansion, they got to see more than just molded trees woven together. Before them, stood the mansion itself - dark wooden siding with curling windowsills and glimmering colored glass windows were an loud, yet dazzling sight. Long poles strung fairy lights across the courtyard and metal lanterns dangled to cast geometric shadow across the frozen stones, plunging all the guests into a kaleidoscope of color. Even the fountain itself gleamed with purple lights and brilliant gems, all inlaid into burnished gold rings that floated and rotated around a glass sphere that twisted and turned on a basin of sea green water.

Every color was more vibrant than it was in the outside! Even the white of the snow that frosted the woven trees and the fairy lights seemed whiter than it's ever been before! The outdoor heaters sat in engraved braziers that kept the colors glinting in the night air - and across the guests that filtered in. Guests were crowded into the kaleidoscope of the courtyard as the opening loomed, each one enjoying the crisp air and the snacks that each server pranced through the crowds to offer.

It was a delight then, when the time struck 7 and every little server scurried off into the shadows of the woven trees and every light seemed to almost dim in the night in a wave that drew everyone's attention to the front doors of the mansion. Thick, dark wood carved into esoteric symbols and inlaid gold decorated the door from top to bottom, and as everyone stared… were they beginning to glow?

Yes! Without a doubt, the crowd watched with interest as the doors began to shine from bottom to the top and with a bright flash, opened by themselves - to show the Alchemist himself.

Kilran Barbas stood before them all in a brilliant cloak of bright red feathers and a deep navy blue fur, the suit he wore embroidered with a thousand little gemstones and golden thread that marked him as nothing more than a walking grimoire. He grinned at the crowds as his gestured out to it - and the fairy lights sparked brighter with his movements. "Welcome guests!" He called out. "To the 12th Perigee Ball! I am yet again honored to host again this sweep, and I am excited to see the enthusiasm everyone has brought to my hive. Nothing brings me more joy than seeing your smiling faces! This event isn’t about wealth, or notoriety, or connections - but rather, the warmth we all share by being together this time of the sweep. Whether you came with a date or if you came alone, know that you are what makes this night truly special.”

“So please, come inside - and enjoy the magic I’ve prepared for you this evening.”

And then, with a spark and a flourish behind his own cape - he disappeared.

With that, the guests surged forward!

The way forward was paved with lights and a dark red rug that seemed to ripple with light with every foot on it, and it was good that it did so - the unknowning guest could easily become lost among the libraries that they stepped into were it not for their direction. Grand wood shelves lined the halls, each one stocked to the brim with oddities and artifacts that were lit by the same colored lanterns outside and framed by heavy velvet curtains. Automatons lined the walls above them, mechanical birds that seemed to fix their jeweled eyes on the guests as they explored this new realm of esotericism that they stepped into. The grand gallery was one of the first places most of the guests were able to reach - only to see the floating eyes of each and every King, Queen, and Couturier of sweeps past floating above them, each face lighting up and smiling impishly at the guests below. Moving paintings! What a delight!

Before them all, nestled deep within revolving globes acting as the pedestals for them, sat the Crowns and the Couturier's Cape, glinting in the light from the colored lanterns that hung around it and the glinting gold of the automaton birds that guarded it.

The magic was just beginning, the spell just starting to be bound and cast - and at the end of the night, it will find it's completion with three trolls forever written and part of the magic of the ball, to be recognized and loved and power the enchantment for another sweep to come.

So how will this story end? What kind of king or queen will bind this spell? What kind of Couturier will stitch it together?

Well, that remains to be seen, wouldn’t it? But until the last of the ink dries and the last chant is said, why not enjoy yourselves?
