Sun, dark nebula, and dwarf star for any or all of your Shepards?

Sun- Was there a person in your Shepard's life that changed their view on life/the world?

For ZK, there were two people that completely turned her worldview around. When she was 15 it was her first girlfriend Veela, who showed her that life is worth living if you make it worth living. Grab it by the throat and make life rue the day it decided to try to beat you down. If you own it, it is yours. Later it was Kaidan, who took what Veela taught her and added to it- life doesn't always have to be a battle. Sometimes it's coffee and sweet kisses and just letting life happen. Fight for your right to live, never back down, but don't forget that there's also peace and little spots of happiness.

For Marcin, it was his sister Fare, but not until they reunited after Virmire. For the most part he tried to forge his own views from his own experience. But when Fare showed back up, angry and bitter and scarred from who knows what, but still caring and trusting, he started to let other people's experiences count. Before he had mostly stayed out of it, but he started to take an interest in how others saw the world. Eventually it made him more empathetic- he was a good person before, but not very good with emotions.

For Fare, it was Thane. He helped her let go of the past, and a great deal of the hatred she held on to. His entire philosophy hit her right at her core, and she started adopting bits and pieces of it until he died. There was a hell of a change in her character.

Dark Nebula- is there something they'd change about their past?

ZK: Ashelin. She had picked up a little girl out of the gutter, named Ashelin Rodriquez. She was 8 when ZK left, and ZK had to leave her behind. Not a day goes by that she doesn't wish she could have brought Ash with her, maybe given her a chance away from the Reds.

Marcin: Right after Mindoir, Marcin got into some pretty deep shit. Joined a gang, used what he learned from his family's tech expertise to steal a whole lot of creds. As a group, they were getting out of control, heading into tainted eezo trafficking and piracy. Anderson was the one who eventually caught them, and he took Marcin(the youngest, barely 18) aside and gave him the berating of his life. Told him he had too much talent to waste like that, and stuck him in the Alliance instead of sending him with the rest of the gang. If he could, Marcin would go back and try to steer the gang back from the brink. He never quite forgave himself for letting them get that far gone(even tho it wasn't his fault)

Fare: Fare was taken by Batarian slavers in the attack on Mindoir. As an undocumented and unimplanted human biotic, she would fetch an insane price for illegal research labs. Eventually she broke out, killing everyone involved in the process. The only thing she regrets about that is that she had to kill the guards; most of them were there because they were desperate. who knows how many families she took livelihood from- if she could, she'd go back and leave the guards alive.

Dwarf Star- when was your Shepard's first kiss?

ZK: She was 13. The circumstances were really...really shitty, so she doesn't count it. The one she counts was when she was 15. Veela had pulled her out of an alley where she had alcohol poisoning, and saved her life. ZK tried to thank her, was really bad at it, and Veela kissed her.

Marcin: actually Marcin didn't have his first kiss until after he finished basic. He was 22, there was a big celebratory party, and this marine dude he was in training with that had a crush on him got really drunk and they kissed. (Marcin will try to tell you it was cute & innocent. it was not. there was tongue and they passed out together on a couch)

Fare: Fare's not much of one for dating, but she did have an NB partner when she was 16, before the attack. They were her first kiss.

all of my Shepards' responses to the "wait weren't you dead" thing were "yeah. and?"

So one thing that I never talk about(because I am nervous(but now I am drinking and not nervous)) is how all of my Shepards are POC. ZK is French-Korean, but she was orphaned at 6 and grew up in South Texas, whereas Fare and Marcin, the twins, were born and raised on Mindoir, but the majority of their family(except for their Polish dad) was from Lebanon. ZK never really knew enough about her father Minh's side of the family to have a connection with Korean culture. And while she'd like to explore it, she just doesn't know enough to start until after the reaper war when she has access to old US Navy records to even find out where her dad was from. So it's tough on her, but she can handle it. (she adores kim chi. has no idea where she picked up the taste for it until after the war but she loves it.) Marcin used to be really into his family's culture and religion, but after Mindoir was attacked that turned really bitter on him, so he just kind of...let it go. He still has a taste for the food, and loves hearing the call to prayer, but the rest of it is just...painful. Fare, on the other hand, wasn't really into the whole thing. After the attack she turned to it for comfort, sort of, but it still felt distant and awkward. So she enjoys going to mosques(? may have the wrong word, doing this from memory, correct me if I'm wrong) when she can but she can't actually bring herself to practice. Like I really am trying to not just make them the paper dolls thing. I don't know enough about the Korean and Lebanese cultures to really, truly elaborate, but it's a work in progress and I might make mistakes in what they do/how it affects them. Idk I just felt like rambling about my Shepards

I really want to draw Marcin and Fare’s reunion scene bc you’d think it’d be all cute n shit because they love each other and thought each other dead, but in reality:

Marcin is fighting his way through a pirate base

Fare is there in one of the cells, and breaks out at JUST the right time for Marcin to see her

she turns and sees her brother, bloody and bruised from the fight “wow, Marcin, you look like absolute shit”

and there’s a really. obnoxiously long silence.

Marcin slowly walks over to her

puts a hand on her shoulder

AND PUTS HER IN A HEADLOCK

“I HAVEN’T SEEN YOU FOR FIFTEEN FUCKING YEARS AND THOSE ARE THE FIRST WORDS YOU SAY TO ME”

“WHAT THE FUCK ELSE WOULD I SAY, YOU LOOK LIKE SHIT, WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT GIANT ASS SCAR”

“GOD FUCKING DAMMIT FARE”

there’s wrestling, somehow Fare manages to throw her brother halfway down the hall,

and before anyone on the squad can react someone is thrown out a window

so did I ever mention that Marcin and Fare Shepard are canonically twins that were separated during the attack on mindoir

which one becomes The Commander Shepard depends entirely on whether Marcin died in that version or not, bc Fare survives either way(undocumented human biotics are big money for illegal research)

It’s basically either “Fare is sold to a lab, kills everyone, breaks out, and joins the Alliance” or “Fare is sold to a lab, kills everyone, breaks out, and joins a smuggling gang while Marcin joins the Alliance”
