big rural life love ramble

even tho my little spot in new hampshire is v out of the way and isolated from a lot of folx i love, i reeeeeally like living in the country. it’s quiet. the stars are Great. i have a woodstove. i’m working part time hrs at the farm rn, but there are so many folx who actually have ~odd jobs~ and are down to trade stuff and/or pay like 10/hr. like this week i worked 8.5 hrs for this woman next door - cleaning the pig pens + clearing a stall all the way down to the bare wood, which was hard and really satisfying - and she payed me $80 + bacon from her pigs + gave me a ton of wood for free when i told her i have a wood stove in my house, but haven’t gotten any wood yet. that’s cool!! it’s a small community here and i know if i stayed i could get to know people more and kinda dig in for a while..but...something’s telling me i just can’t here. it’s too far from my folx in maine, co-managing this business for an owner who i don’t believe in or see eye to eye w or understand really scares me honestly, and i wanna see other farms! i wanna see what other folx are doing! 

living and working here for (what’ll be) three years has taught//is teaching me so much. i truly like rural living, i think it’s where my heart and body belong. to find ways to reconcile that with my fears and anxieties of meeting people head-on to discuss social justice is a big challenge, but one that i believe is inherent in wanting to live rurally. 

i so so deeply want my own property - my own house and small piece of land to begin something on. but how do you save enough money to get to that point? it seems so logistically impossible to me at this point where i am sort of staying afloat enough to exist + pay a few bills + give what i can to folx i can. this work doesn’t pay much and it doesn’t pay consistently, but i love it. i need help and advice and narratives of what people are doing when they’re in a position like me, but so deeply want to create space for themselves and others.

hey all my anxiety went up in beautiful smoke bc the farm party was truly a large pocket of goodness !!!!

yr pal is N E R V O U S. farm party tonight. so much socializing and stayin up a lil late and feeling real awkward i'm sure. hopefully also just some drinkin and pizza and pie and bonfire. tryn to temper this jittery thing in my chest but im sure the coffee ain't helping. someone swaddle me in blankets and let's watch howls moving castle in soft orange light.
