Sub-Commander Torchstar
Tau, Farsight Enclaves
Painted 7/19/15
I had gotten a box of the XV-8 crisis suits around the time I was getting into 40k around December 2013 and really had no idea what to do with them. So I tucked them away and didn't mess with them. When the Farsight Enclaves supplement came out and gave load outs on how to equip the Eight, then that's what I did. But when I first painted him, I did a horrible job. My base coats were fine, however it reaffirmed my "paint before you assemble" mentality. I did a black wash all over thinking it'll add depth and then even highlighted. It was horrible. He was WAY too dark. At the time, I didn't even think about brightening back up with the base coats again. On top of that, I didn't prepare him with a cleaning before priming so in certain spots, the primer was rubbing off. This time, I did a whole new base coat. The paint was rubbing off again in one certain spot. I went over that spot 5 times. The 5th time, I went over the mode with a gloss varnish before I highlighted. That seemed to have fixed it. After highlighting, I went over with a matte varnish to cut down on the shine. I learned a lot of thing a from him, even as I repainted it when I was more knowledgeable.
As for his pose, he has 2 flamers. I wanted it to look like he was slowly stepping forward and scanning the battlefield, ready to ignite anything that got close to him.
