White Liberator Stormcast Eternal Painted 1/1/16 Two of Four painted for a commission. I saw this scheme in a White Dwarf and figured I would give it a go. In the end, I kind of like it.
Lions of Sigmar Liberator Stormcast Eternal Painted 1/1/16 One of Four for a commission. They're all different color schemes to go on display to show customers that you don't have to just pick gold or silver. While this picture is quite bright, he's actual bronze. Balthazar Gold + Agrax Earthshade + Golden Griffon. He took maybe 4 hours to do, which includes waiting for shade to dry. This color scheme originated from an issue of White Dwarf. The purple could have been brighter, but I like it how it is.
Eightscarred Helbrute Khorne Daemonkin Painted 12/12/15 This is part of a commission for the Eightscarred faction of Khorne Daemonkin. I've seen several ways of painting this guy, and a lot of people paint the armor and flesh the same color. From the beginning, I knew I wanted it to have a pale fleshy look, so that's what I did. I also knew I wanted to have some sort of color transition on the horns, so I gave that a go as well, even though it was my first time trying it. I wanted entirely sure what to do with the smoke stack, but as it came together I decided for a fleshy to charred look. Overall, I was very happy with how it turned out.
Chaos Lord of Tzeentch Warriors of Chaos Painted 12/23/15 I originally bought the model just because I liked how it looked. Then I did nothing with it for a while, until my local Games Workshop mentioned a Path to Glory campaign. Since this is the leader of my army, it made sense to start with him. My original thought was to glaze all of the armor blue, but with the blue cloak I wanted and the blue base, everything would simply be too blue. I kept the cloak dark blue so it would stand out as a Tzeentch follower. One last minute touch up I did was shade the glaive from yellow to orange to red on the blade. It's subtle, but I like it.
KV128 Stormsurge Tau Empire Painted 11/7/15 This is my first large commission, and it turned out much better than I originally anticipated. There were a lot of challenges in this model, such as highlighting every single line. And there are a lot of lines. I ended up with 30+ hours painting over the course of 3 weeks. My original estimate on finishing it was 2 days. Boy was I wrong... I had fun with it, though. And I'm glad my client enjoys it.
Lord-Relictor Stormcast Eternals Painted 10/20/15 I did this one as a commission for my local Games Workshop store. It was based how he wanted it, because he wants to finish it. I tried a different technique for the cloak, and I'm very happy with the result.
Lord-Castellant Stormcast Eternals
Painted 8/28/15
When I first saw this piece, I pre ordered it immediately. The lantern really drew me to it. I decided it would be my August entry for Brotherhood of the Brush. Since I was the only entry, I won. He was pretty interesting to paint. The most time consuming portion of him was the scroll work, as it took a lot of time for the shade to dry and I had to be extra careful with over brushing. Overall, I was completely happy with it. It’ll look great in my army.
Necron Overlord Necrons
Painted February 2015
I painted this up for a friend of mine for my first Brotherhood of the Brush competition. He also lead me to victory, which included another Necron Overlord. Since he’s an Overlord and not a grunt, I made him a bit shinier with Ironbreaker instead of just a base. I also painted the rib cage Mephiston Red and went over with ‘ardcoat to give it a shine, so it would look more like enamel rather than just paint. I was really really pleased with it. Looking back on it now, I’m kind of itching to do more necron stuff.
Chaos Sorcer Warriors of Chaos
Painted 8/21/15
While browsing around in the Games Workshop store, I wanted to get something, but I didn’t have a lot of money. This guy was $15 (pricey for a single model, but cheaper than buying a unit) so I picked it up. I primed it and it sat on my desk for a while, because I hate doing flesh. I finally painted the head and at first, hated it. Then, as time went on, it grew on me. I think I did pretty well. Then I started on the armor and I thought it was a bit too bright. But after feedback by a couple of people, they liked it, so I stuck with it. But I was a bit at a loss for how to do the robe portion. While flipping through an Age of Sigmar book, it showed the Bleak Horde. With their white-ish colors, it inspired me to do the robe in brighter colors also, instead of just black. Now that that’s done, I’m very happy with how it all turned out.
My Tzeentch army begins!
Prosecutors Stormcast Eternals
Painted July 28th, 29th, 30th, and 31st of 2015
I received these as a commission for my local Games Workshop store. He needed his models painted pretty soon, some other guy took all of the Chaos Warriors from the Age of Sigmar and I took these guys home to paint. Originally, I was going to do the Chaos Warriors, but someone who’s better (and faster) at painting than me took them. And that’s perfectly cool, I’m sure he’ll do an awesome job. I made mistakes with these guys, but I really tried my best. I hope he likes them.
Mighty Lord of Khorne Chaos Warriors
Painted 7/26/15
Painted this for my best friend. He's helped me out a lot and all I really have is painting. He liked the model a lot, so I painted it as a surprise. Learned a lot with this guy too. While painting it, I learned how to correctly thin my paints and why paint was drying out on the top of my brush. Overall, I'm very pleased with how it came out.
Anrakyr the Traveller Necrons
Painted December 2013
This was my first model to paint as of recently. I really didn't have any direction. No clue on highlighting. But I used four of the new technical paints to add oxidation, rust, corrosion, and agrellan earth. I was also limited on paints, so his weapon looks pretty weak. I spent so long painting this guy too. I did it for a Christmas present to one of my friends who has done a lot for me and I couldn't really afford to give anything. This was a fairly cheap model but I out around 8 hours of work into him. I was pretty happy when I finished, too! The beginning of my painting journey.
I wish I could get a clearer picture, but he is no longer in my possession so I had to use an older picture.
Sub-Commander Torchstar Tau, Farsight Enclaves Painted 7/19/15 I had gotten a box of the XV-8 crisis suits around the time I was getting into 40k around December 2013 and really had no idea what to do with them. So I tucked them away and didn't mess with them. When the Farsight Enclaves supplement came out and gave load outs on how to equip the Eight, then that's what I did. But when I first painted him, I did a horrible job. My base coats were fine, however it reaffirmed my "paint before you assemble" mentality. I did a black wash all over thinking it'll add depth and then even highlighted. It was horrible. He was WAY too dark. At the time, I didn't even think about brightening back up with the base coats again. On top of that, I didn't prepare him with a cleaning before priming so in certain spots, the primer was rubbing off. This time, I did a whole new base coat. The paint was rubbing off again in one certain spot. I went over that spot 5 times. The 5th time, I went over the mode with a gloss varnish before I highlighted. That seemed to have fixed it. After highlighting, I went over with a matte varnish to cut down on the shine. I learned a lot of thing a from him, even as I repainted it when I was more knowledgeable. As for his pose, he has 2 flamers. I wanted it to look like he was slowly stepping forward and scanning the battlefield, ready to ignite anything that got close to him.
Commander Farsight Tau, Farsight Enclaves
Acquired December 2013 The only model I own that wasn't painted by me. When I was just starting in the hobby, I fell in love with the look of the Tau Farsight Enclaves. I visited the Games Workshop store in Sandy Springs, GA and this miniature was on display. The manager, who is a really awesome guy, told me how he thought they should be painted to match the Farsight Enclave color scheme, as this was before they put out books on how to paint different sub faction colors. I absolutely loved seeing Farsight on display. I had bought what paints I thought I needed (Mephiston Red, Eshin Grey, Nuln Oil) and a couple of paints my wife wanted. One of which was Golden Griffon, a dry paint. I knew about dry paints, but when I got home it wasn't like in the videos out out by Games Workshop. I figured I got a bad pot. I messaged the manager about it, he explained that it was fine, but just in case he would mail me a new one, free of charge. I received the box a few days later and it had a note in it. The note said "This fell out and broke when I was cleaning the case. Maybe you can fix it and use it" and it was Commander Farsight, broken at the foot. I was floored by him not only remembering our conversation, but also the generosity of sending it to me. This is also one reason why I'm a huge supporter of Games Workshop. I've always had fantastic interactions with them. From there, my hobby journey began.
Miniature history
Each miniature I paint has a bit of a history with it. Even the ones that aren't mine that I paint, there's history there. I believe instead of just linking from Instagram, I'll post each one here with the history behind them. So I don't forget and others can know where it came from.
