i always assumed that arthur wasn't a tunneller - while the show never says he wasn't, it never specifically mentioned that he was (but for example, it's suggested that he was in turkey), and the thing to me was that it's what separated tommy even from his brothers. however, during the cellar conversation (the wine cellar in arrow house & in the movie tommy narrates this particular information as he too goes into the wine cellar) tommy recalls this story of him and arthur going through that canal tunnel as children. my guess is that what he's writing is a conflation of these two things - aptly fitting because the tunnels always were treated both as the symbol of tommy's war trauma but also as a cipher for (underlying) childhood trauma

the thing is... i feel like the show has spelled it out pretty clearly for us ?? and it's SOOO crunchy !!!!

buck is an attention whore and needs to be the centre of tommy's world and he will absolutely be a brat about it (affectionate). so i feel like everyone and their mother knows the minute buck gets jealous. they'll be out at a bar and some guy starts hitting on tommy, or one of the guy at harbor is taking a little too much of tommy's time, or hell even eddie and tommy are having a little too much fun in the corner there and every single person in the group goes uh oh evan 'ankle crusher' buckley is about to emerge. so yk he's just the type to insert himself in a conversation a little too aggressively and if he body-checks some guy to cuddle up to tommy in public and stake his claim than OOOPS just too bad. yk ?? and i def headcanon that buck is obsessed with marking tommy up. prob. because tommy is such a steady/stoic/put together guy and it turns buck on like crazy to think of him messing tommy up a little where people can see. we all saw him go straight for tommy's neck during the hook up and i like to think that's his fav hickey spot. like..... the VISUAL of tommy belonging to him is so important to him ?? which is why i think he goes insane when they get married and tommy finally wears a ring (A BIG NEON SIGN that he's not available). actually, i think tommy surprising him with a wedding band tattoo (his first) after their wedding would really calm something feral/primal in him. so yeah, ultimately, as quick as the monster is to come out when it comes to buck + jealousy, i feel like he's very easy to tame? tommy's hand in his back pocket, or on his waist, a well placed pet name in public, sitting on tommy's lap, a good groping in the bathroom or on the way home ? and buck is reminded that tommy only wants him.

now tommy ? tommy is fun because he's insecure and insane. tommy says 'it's okay to look' re: hot women (and prob. hot men too) but calls eddie competition. and to me that speaks to him feeling extremely confident re: buck's physical attraction to him and their sexual chemistry/compatibility (lbr these two have insanely good sex that's just straight up facts, i don't even need canon to confirm it for me), but a deep seated fear re: what else he can bring to the table. because tommy is lonely and no one ever really wanted him around in the long run. he's pessimistic, he's sarcastic, he's deadpan, he can be a little mean and sure, he has a bunch of useful skills that people like/rely on but most people don't like him. or, at least, most people don't take the time to know underneath his curated exterior. most people don't know the gentle, kindhearted, romantic, bruised, insecure soul underneath. the one who craves being special to someone. so when he gets jealous, he retreats. he almost never says anything, or mentions it, because deep down he's scared he's gonna be proven right. he's gonna be forced to confront the fact that other people mean more to evan than he does. because there's always people who mean more to the people he loves than he does. he just strikes me as last picked on the playground kid. almost no one showed up to his bday party kid. we know he doesn't have a relationship with his father, he probably feels like a disappointment to him and it's probably tied to his sexuality and that's a knot he's been trying to untangle for years. but i think it means he's felt deeply unwanted for a long time. so when he's jealous, he goes real quiet because it's not about him wanting attention. it's about him feeling like every single one of his worst fears being confirmed. so he silently spirals, and he retreats, and goes a little distant. which really triggers buck's abandonment issues. or he makes snarky, self-deprecating comments. makes insane leaps of logic. buck makes a new friend at the queer hiking group he joined and tommy jokes that maybe he should elope with the guy since his bread recipe tips are sooooo good. and early in their relationship buck would bite and get offended and would say something mean back because wtf doesn't tommy fucking trust him ??? and their relationship ??? but buck knows now where that comes from, they've talked about it, and tommy is so good at keeping buck grounded and giving him reassurance when buck goes a little overboard with the possessiveness. so buck gives him a lot of subtle verbal reassurance. i just picture buck being like... really specific with his compliments?? so that tommy feels secure and appreciated in their relationship ?? tommy is a big gestures guy, but he doesn't necessarily need/like those kind of gestures back?? he loves them in theory in a obsessed with romcom kinda way, but in reality? he doesn't like being the centre of attention. he's a stick to the sideline guy. idk i think he's a lil shy/simple..... but he goes crazy when buck is like 'you're the most perceptive partner i've ever had and the way you see me makes me feel really safe' or whatever. just insanely specific compliments.

sorry i feel like i went into a weird sad tangent and didn't really answer your prompt but obvs i think they also have insanelydirtynasty possessive sex about it when they're jealous. like.... as much as i hc buck as being obsessed with marking tommy up, i think tommy is obsessed with coming on buck. like, that's his baby. no one else gets to do this to him. maybe buck even lets him takes photos sometimes. as a lil reminder.
