New Content in the Forgotten Quarter: Expeditions!

There's new content in the Forgotten Quarter. Most of them are "impossible" right now--weren't there people who briefly had the quality Impossible during the end event of the Feast of the Exceptional Rose?--but I hope that changes soon. I'm nearing the end of my quest, and there are a couple of fun looking Fate only options I would love to write reviews. It's actually a bit challenging finding promising Fate content that's worth less than 10 Fate.

Also "Diamonds" have changed to "Flawed Diamonds," and the "See if Empire Adornments is Open" has changed accordingly with a new option.

1 Fate for the Secrets of Devils is a Great Deal, however

There are a few choices out there needing a few tidbits of Fate to unlock promising secret knowledge. One that has caught my eye very early on is the Stealth Watch Repair requiring the Albino Rat.

After all, what could the devil's be up to fiddling with someone's watch? An explosive plant, maybe? The rare success result from the Talkative Rat in particular gets the imagination running. How high could the devil's Baroque stat be going into this Stealth Watch Repair gambit?

Turns out not that high at all. Not to say the results you get from this choice is not eye opening! It's actually a very substantial amount of text you get for only 1 Fate. There are few places in Fallen London that has this much text. And after reading all that, you will be like "Ah! But of course! How could it be anything but that? It's always that way with devils." Surprisingly, with the rare result of the Talkative Rat, he is actually on the right track. But, not in any way you can actually guess.

I would say this choice is a steal for only 1 Fate. It brings new light to other operations of devils like with the Intimate with Devils quest line. Why they would go through all that effort for a single soul when regular souls go for 2 pence pittance, and you can only rightly expect your soul to be brilliant which only goes for half an echo. It certainly widens the scope of devils beyond that of simple illegal spirifier activities.

So yes, I would say this option is for sure worth only 1 Fate. Definitely worth 3 Fate. Maybe even 5 but that would depend on the rewards, wouldn't it? I, however, don't remember the rewards for this Fate content so I can't say. I can say, though, that intangible tangible Fallen London goodies definitely aren't the point of this Fate content.

How much are the secrets of devils worth? Not $10

So I was playing my alt, filling in empty spots on the wiki, and keeping an eye out for Fate content to write reviews on. One big gap I noticed is on the Loquacious Vicar quest line with the question of if devils can die.

I had a couple options for myself. I could either spend 50(!!!) Fate and ask the resulting devil companion on their mortality. That could serve a dual purpose of getting some Fate content down and filling up the wiki because those devil companions aren't strictly Fate only. Or I could  just fill out the "An Intimate with Devils" blank spot on the wiki.

Hmm... I had to think, is 50 Fate really worth getting more info on one thing? Admittedly a rather important thing. But, that just means it'll certainly be addressed later in Fallen London, and without the ambiguity that would still come from either of those devil companions.

I guess in the end the decider was that I like this game. But, I don't $10 like this game. Especially when I've already got that $10 spoken for for the BIG fate content I've started this whole tumblr for.

Now, while I have the chance since we are sorta on the topic of wiking stuff, you guys see that SUPER annoying thing they did to the Fallen London Wikia (not wikidot)? Where they cut off really long texts with:

That really annoying things? Holy crap do NOT like. At least it's better than what they did to wikidot. Anyways, to get around this one, press the green Edit button on the top of the article. Switch to the Source tab. And, whammo, you got all the text.

Now that's annoying enough. But, what really peeves me off is that SUPER FUCKING annoying thing they did to copy pasting stuff from their game itself. Where everything you paste is addendum with "Find the rest of the story at http://www.fallenlondon.com. Why would you do that? Why would you put effort into making your game annoying to use? Sometimes I've reflexively backspaced on things I've copied not even from the game! Wow. Just wow.

Nothing like Ctrl+C someone's nick so you can add them to your "friends" list. Or to check their profile. Only to have to do some backspacing to do what you are wanting to do. Talk about exasperation.

Master Classes in Etiquette: Rubbery Pupil

I've been wanting to do this for a while. Write reviews of "minor" fate locked content. Anyone can find opinions on stuff like the Neathy Pokemon, Flute Street, Rubbery Murders, etc etc. But, for fate content that costs 3 or 5 or 11 fate, people can be rather reticent about giving up their fate. Rightly so! They have no guarantees about the quality of the fate content. So I'm here to allow them to make an informed decision on the matter. I'll take the sacrifice in fate to explore the exclusive content of Fallen London

Right, enough of my babble. Onto the fate content! I actually had a good time tutoring the rubbery man on matters of etiquette. He's more than a simple despondent clueless rubbery man. It seems from your efforts you are shaping quite the revolutionary fellow. A man with vision and purpose. Perhaps this hints towards greater Rubbery involvement in London affairs later?

So lots of good content from this 5 Fate.  Lots of text and storylets. Pacing is good for this storylet too. Things move pretty fast. And the rewards you get from success are great. Most of them are above 1 echo per action. Most of this is in amber. But, a few are with silk scraps and one gives you 2 strangling willow absinthe. The final reward is trembling amber. Sells for 12.50 echoes, and you can't get it anywhere else.

All in all, pretty good content. There's even extra options for those In Possession of a Peculiar Personal Enhancement and a Boneless Consort. It always seems to be that 100 Fate shibang that has extra content all around Fallen London. There's even an extra option for the Peculiar Personal Enhancement in the A Restorative opportunity card I just discovered. Something maybe for me to look into later.

Anyway, yeah. If you find Rubbery Men at least somewhat intriguing, this content is a must. And really if you are disappointed with what you get here, I wonder if any 5 Fate content will fill your appetite.
