❝ ——— Felix, ❞ to his credit, he says his name with as much patience as he could FEASIBLY MUSTER ——— which, to his discredit, isn’t very much at all. No, there truly is no small piece of patience in his body at the moment ( not that there ever is, in general ) and instead his voice is steady but oddly pitched / frustration and anger and worry simmering just beneath. Well, it’s not like either of them believe that Dorian has particularly stunning bedside manners. ❝ I do believe I told you to try not to get yourself killed. Various times, in fact. ❞

"I... apologize. For my behavior earlier. You did not deserve that.”
“Some things you let go in order to live.” - Felix Alexius
@fatetcrn
Dorian watched Felix with an almost sad expression. He admired his friend, he hoped he knew that. He wanted to believe that if something as awful as what Felix and Gerion endured, losing Felix's mother, that he wouldn't give a fuck. Guiltily he hoped he might celebrate if his parents passed, he knew it wasn't true. He knew well enough all the hard work he'd put into overcoming his drinking habits would all fall out the window, and he would all but crash in burn filled with rage that he cared enough to mourn them in the first place.
But Felix hadn't just lost his mother, he was also sick. Dorian wished it were different, but as hard as it was to hear Felix was right: sometimes all you could do to ease the pain was accept things for what they were. In that way he was more mature, not like Dorian would rather go out kicking and screaming.
"Does it not frighten you...?" he couldn't help but ask. "I mean...everyone dies but not many of us are forced to face it in such a grim way." Was it comforting for Felix to be so at peace with the idea or horrifying? He supposed it frightened him because he couldn't even fathom what his life looked like without Felix, and he didn't want to either.
"You're going to die" he murmured, whether to himself or Felix he couldn't say.
❝ Ah, you’re so pretty, but not just your face, your brain. It’s like your beautiful brain exploded all over your face. ❞ - Alistair
Inara tried and failed not to laugh. Her fingers curled over her lips, trying to hide her grin as her shoulders shook in silence, stifling the chuckle as she sat there at Alistair's side, deflecting with her other hand his attempts to reach up and put his hand on her face and turning his hand over, curling her fingers around his. "How are you feeling, love?" she asked him as her eyes wandered down to his leg, the bandages wrapped there not yet bled through, which she assumed was a promising sign. His penchant for finding traps was... something they were working on, but Wynne had assured her that Alistair would heal up just fine, with no serious damage done that the burning sizzle of magic could not undo. For the pain, they'd supplied him a mix of herbs that made him seem quite... happy. She pulled his hand to her lips, and gave it a soft kiss. "Just try to relax. We're safe here, for now. And you need sleep."
❝ i don’t get you. why risk your life like this? ❞ — Anders
resident evil: 4 remake starters | @fatetcrn
anders, of all people, should know. having the life you've known ripped away from you like a fresh skin, forced to countenance a new amalgam of dread and deprivation as some raw and untouchable thing just waiting to scab over. and yet still the question, why risk your life? as if it shouldn't be obvious:
anything is worth stopping another family from losing another bethany.
but carver doesn't say that. what does this man care of mangled sisters? does it even matter he was pared from his twin, when the world at large misses a mage? carver rolls his eyes and continues buffing oil into the joints of his doffed gauntlet.
"oh, yes, why do anything at all if not in service of a political project?" the metal clinks noisily under his ministrations. "keeping the horde at bay must seem like such a stupid thing to die for."
❝ I ate my feelings. And a lot of bread. ❞ -Alistair
"I didn't say anything," Inara said as her cheeks filled with warmth and color, and she wondered just how long her eyes had lingered on his fuller shoulders, his thicker chest in order for him to grow so self-conscious that he felt the need to defend himself.
He looked so different, and yet so much the same. He had new scars, but so did she. His body was different - he'd grown older. Taller, somehow. And thicker, from an awkward young ex-Templar to the bulky mercenary that now sat across from her, both of them picking at the dinner they'd been served.
His eyes were the same, though. Soft, honeyed glances with a mix of soft and bashful that was just so him. She'd dreamed of staring into his eyes once again. Perhaps not with so much shame in hers, and yet...
"I attempted to drink my feelings," she told him because she had not yet found the courage to say I'm sorry, or I've missed you. "But I mostly threw them up. As it turns out, they don't blend well with whiskey."

Drabble Checklist (Accepting) HALF: our muses share something (snack, blanket, etc.)
She could be a stubborn woman. It was a condition that had gotten worse after the Blight; the pliable, agreeable fawn-eyed Warden she had once been had one too many scars to fit comfortably into the grooves of someone else's will, her wounds making her flinch at every too-close touch of new friends and new affections. Anders was laughing at her; not openly. Under his breath, the tittered near-sighs and the light in his eyes glittering was laughter enough as he watched her attempt to refuse to fall asleep against him in that cramped lean-to in the pouring, bitter-cold Amaranthine rain. They hadn't run fast enough, and she was shivering still, despite the sputtering fire they sat perhaps too close to, despite the half-damp fur hugged around both their shoulders. He told her she didn't bite, and she said that she'd seen Oghren's fingers last week. They both giggled, but she tried still to lean away from him, even as her eyelids fluttered and sank with exhaustion. It was almost endearing. He didn't push, of course, or pull when the fur began to slip from his shoulder as she slumped against the smooth rock wall they'd made their hasty shelter against. He held up a hand, and magic glittered at the tips of his fingers, sparks and flame that mesmerized and pumped warmth through the air without smoke. Pure comfort and light. She was not sure how long she'd been asleep against his shoulder when her eyes fluttered open, only that she was warm, and his hand held the fur closed around them both. She considered only a moment sitting up, away from him once more, and she saw the knowing on his face. He did not ask her to stay where she was, however, and did not complain about the cold when she shifted, and the fur opened some. He was always complaining about the cold. She settled back against him. "Thank you," she murmured, though she wasn't quite certain what the thanks was for. "Sharing is caring," he chirped, and pretended that it was not any deeper than the warmth on their skin.
