I love the freedoms and liberties I get in writing/styling my reviews for @mysubscriptionaddiction . Fashion is a self expression, political statement, and a battle cry. I am mindful to style or sect items that women are told to steer away from. No horizontal stripes--- GIMME A BREAK! I will wear all the stripes. No patterns? Get real, I live for vibrant designs. Clothing that is too form fitting-- make it skin tight, alright!? Crop tops? Yes, this belly needs some sunshine on it as well! These bright gold high waisted pants seemed to fit that bill perfectly from @shoedazzle for my latest July review. I also like to take pictures that show my fat body in different angles. This got reinforced years ago through Tumblr (where I found the fat acceptance and body positive community-- thank you babes for saving my life) in the #fatfromtheside account. I want to show the different angles, the rolls, the double chins--- honey, I want to show it all. Visibility makes people realize their own worth. If you see another fat woman making waves, it will inspire you to take chances you were afraid of before. Daring to say I AM HERE AND I AM NOT HIDING MYSELF. You would think it isn't that radical, but it is even now in 2019, even more than ever. So, I appreciate working for an employer that embraces beauty and body shapes in all forms and sizes. I am so appreciative they have given me the platform they have to remind other women that they are beautiful as they are no matter what society tries to tell them. There used to be a tumblr account I loved, called fat from the side. It's an angle we fat folk tend to avoid, and it's certainly an angle we are not used to seeing out in the world, in media. I was trying on some stuff at Lord and Taylor and caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror like this. Even now, I had an impulse to move, to suck in my stomach and try and change the shape in the mirror. But instead, I took a picture. #Repost @fatgirlflow (@get_repost) ・・・ I used to be so scared of my body in this position. Walking by windows, catching a glimpse of myself... it hurt. Something about *me from the side* felt different. Felt disconnected. I always looked away or walked quickly past windows to avoid seeing myself from these angles . As I started posting more on social media I realized there were lots of angles that I avoided. So I started challenging that . I started taking #fatfromtheside photos. Some times I didn’t look at them right away. I just kept them in my phone for awhile. When I was ready I would stare at them. Take in the reality of ALL of me. The sides that pour over my jeans, the belly that doesn’t cinch in when im turned, and the butt that looks like two fresh fucking hams shoved in some pants . I stared. And said to myself “this is me”. And stared some more. I told myself that I am me no matter what angle a camera catches me at. That’s the important part... I am me . No fancy angle or editing changes that. Every photo is me. Accepting myself for my entirety, my tremendous multitudes... it’s changed me. I see myself now. I don’t walk quickly past windows. I see the person I AM, and not someone I had made up in my head that only ever presented herself from the front with her legs crossed and back pin straight . Im me. All the time.
