"Mommy, look what I got!" Your little girl ran down the sidewalk from your neighbor's front porch, and you crouched down to be at eye-level with her. She tilted the rim of her jack o lantern candy bucket in your direction, revealing a king-sized candy bar on the top of her haul. You gasped in exaggerated surprise.
"A king-sized Crunch bar? That's awesome, Charlie!" She bounced with excitement.
"Mr. Wallace said he saved it just for me!" You glanced up at the large house to see your neighbor standing in the doorway, smiling at the two of you. You gave him a grateful wave, which he returned, before turning back to your daughter.
"That was sweet of him. Did you say thank you?" Charlie nodded, beaming with pride. Ruffling her hair, you gave her a kiss on the forehead. "All right, are you ready to go home?"
"Can we do one more?" You stood and nodded.
"Sure." Not needing any more encouragement, Charlie bounded up the walkway of another house she hadn't been to yet. Spending time with her was one of your favorite things to do. She shared her father's traits of sandy brown hair, bright green eyes, and although she was only five, you could already tell she would grow to have the same lean figure. You followed her up to the front porch of the house decorated with fake spider webs on the railings. Only a moment after she knocked on the door, it swung open, and an older woman holding a plastic cauldron filled with candy stepped out.
"Trick or treat!" The woman smiled warmly.
"Well, don't you look just adorable! What are you dressed up as?" Unease settled in your stomach.
"I'm a hunter!" Charlie exclaimed happily. "I hunt bad guys like werewolves and vampires and-" You rubbed Charlie's back, chuckling nervously.
"Okay, sweetheart, I think she gets it." The woman put a small handful of candy into the plastic jack o lantern, giving you a puzzled look.
"Thank you!" Charlie ran back down the walkway, long hair bouncing up and down, and you trailed after her, giving the woman an awkward wave. By the time you caught up, Charlie was digging through her plastic tote filled to the brim with candy.
"Anything good?" you asked. She picked up a Kit-Kat and tore the bright red plastic from the chocolate.
"Kit-Kats!" she said happily, shoving the mini chocolate bar in her mouth. You chuckled. Charlie had also apparently developed some of her father's eating habits. You reached down for her hand, small and warm in your own. "Did daddy get to see your costume before we left?" She shook her head.
"Nuh-uh."
"Well, he can see it when we get home." The two of you continued down the sidewalk, the bright sound of other children laughing with their families filling the air. When you finally arrived at your home, the Impala was in the driveway, your husband leaning over the trunk.
"Daddy!" Charlie called out excitedly. Dean whirled around in surprise before breaking into a grin. He crouched down and held open his arms, which Charlie ran into without hesitation.
"Hey, princess!" Dean greeted. "Your costume looks great!" You discreetly shut the trunk so your daughter wouldn't see the stored weapons on display.
"Mommy helped me with it," Charlie declared. Dean folded down the collar on her red flannel, which was sticking up slightly.
"Well, you wanna go show your Uncle Sam?" Her eyes widened with glee.
"Uncle Sam's here?" The front door opened and closed with a small squeak, and Sam strolled out onto the porch.
"There's my girl!" Charlie squealed eagerly, leaping into his arms. Sam kissed the top of her head affectionately as she wrapped her tiny arms tightly around his neck.
"Hey, Sammy," you greeted, smiling warmly at him. "Dean didn't tell me you were coming back with him." Sam nodded.
"Yeah, I was thinking I'd stay and help you make dinner or something so we could catch up." Dean snorted, rolling his eyes.
"Jeez, Sam, you make it sound like you live two states away. Your apartment is literally down the freaking street."
"Oh, stop," you chided playfully. "Sam, you know you're always welcome over here."
"Thanks, Y/N," Sam said, shooting you a wink. "So, Charlie, did you get some good candy?" You sidled up to your husband, lowering your voice.
"How was the case?" Dean sighed, snaking an arm around your waist.
"It wasn't one," he answered. "Just pre-Halloween antics. The damn kid wasn't missing, just passed out drunk in his friend's basement." You sighed, feeling only somewhat at ease, and leaned your head on his shoulder.
"I know I should be grateful we could finally retire," you muttered. "I mean, for Christ's sake, we have a daughter to protect. But is it weird that I still feel kind of... disappointed?" Dean squeezed you lightly and pecked your cheek.
"No," he answered. "Not at all. Hell, we hunted for years, Y/N. It's pretty weird that out of the blue, there's nothing for us to kill anymore, and we can just live a normal life with Sammy and our girl." You sighed, relieved Dean felt the same way you were feeling.
"It's just, after never getting a break for years on end, I feel absolutely useless with all this free time on my hands." He took your hand, rubbing comforting circles over the back of it with his thumb.
"Hey, I get it, believe me, I do. But you're not useless, all right? You could never be useless." Dean looked over his shoulder at Charlie, smiling broadly. Within his smile, you could tell just how much he loved her. "You've done a hell of a job raising our kid. She's more perfect than I could've ever imagined." You smiled, squeezing him in a side hug.
"You've done a pretty bang-up job yourself, Mr. Winchester," you reminded. "Don't give me all the credit here."
"This is a nice shirt, Charlie!" You tuned back into Sam talking to your daughter. "Do you think it would fit me?" She giggled loudly, shaking her head.
"No!" You stifled a laugh, biting your lip to hold back a smile.
"Charlie, didn't you tell your Uncle Sam who you dressed up as?" Sam nodded.
"She sure did. You're a hunter, right?" You had to press the back of your hand to your mouth to hold back a fit of giggles.
"Right, but which hunter did you dress up as, Charlie?" Dean asked, also fighting a smile. Sam gave a slight frown, apparently confused. Your daughter grinned at her uncle.
"I'm Uncle Sam because he has pretty, long hair, too!" When Sam's eyes widened in surprise, you snorted loudly, and Dean burst into laughter.
"Um, right," Sam said, evidently unsure how to react. "How about we go get started on dinner?" He turned, still carrying Charlie, and headed inside, leaving you in the driveway giggling with his older brother. You reached down and interlaced Dean's fingers with yours, smiling brightly. When the laughter subsided, you looked at him seriously. You were worried. Without hustling people at pool in local bars, you weren't sure how you were going to keep a steady flow of income going. After all, you couldn't exactly put "monster hunter" on a resume.
"We're gonna be all right, aren't we?" Dean gave you a sweet smile before pressing a chaste kiss to your lips. The adoration for you in his bright green eyes tugged on your heartstrings and had all of your troubles washing away.
"Yeah, babe. We're gonna be just fine." He wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you in close for another kiss. Dean was right. It was a cheesy thought, but you knew with him by your side you could pull through any hardship that would come your way. After all, the difficulty of getting a job paled in comparison to saving the world from notoriously dangerous monsters. "But God," he voiced softly. "What are we gonna do in our free time?" You shrugged.
"We could always take up knitting as a hobby," you suggested. Dean chuckled at your side.
"I was thinking more along the lines of a shooting range, so we don't get too rusty." You grinned over at your husband, shaking your head with amusement. Once a hunter, always a hunter.
"I love you."
"I love you too. Happy Halloween, Y/N."

It wasn’t when your mother died that your life got strange but rather when you met your father. The man who gave you the name Winchester and your fairytale green eyes.
His brother, your Uncle Sam, had objected to taking you in at first given their line of work. But Dean insisted that you were his responsibility. And so that’s how you began the life of a hunter!
Your father taught you to fire various guns but promised you that you’d never have to take a life if you didn’t want to. Although you thought you’d never want to, you learnt that you’re pretty handy with a machette when it came to vampires.
You’d grown to liking the life on the road. Good thing you liked classic rock as that’s all your father played and you always had your own motel room. The food could’ve been nicer but you never complained.
Today was a rare quiet day for you and your career. It was sunny out in California this summer and so you decided to catch a little sun before you drove of. Bikini on, you set yourself up lying on the hood of your father’s gorgeous car and closed your eyes behind your shades to relax, letting your body tan. This relaxation was interrupted by a wolf whistle you knew to be aimed at you.
Before you had time to lower your sunglasses and scoff in disgust at the man who had noticed you, your father was outside with the guy up against a wall. Dean held the man up off of the grown by the scruff of his shirt and all but roared at him “do not look at my daughter!”
The man looked terrified and weakly mumbled an apology before your father dropped him to the ground and he scurried off. Other people witnessed this but after seeing what Dean had done to the other man, they all tucked their heads and went on with their seperate lives.
You giggled after seeing the spectacle. Your father raised an eyebrow in question before walking over to you.
“I could have handled that.” You stated.
“I know, (Y/N), I know. You just shouldn’t have to put up with sons of bitches like that.” He said soothingly. You smiled at him and laid back down.
“Mind if I join you?” You father asked. You smiled brighter and moved aside so your father could lie next to you. Together you wasted away the day in the sun, and spoke about nothing and everything.
Request: “I have a request for more Jack x Reader fluff and father figure Dean where the reader and Jack are snuggling under the covers, but Jack is shirtless and the reader has on a strapless tank top. So when Dean walks by he thinks they're naked and he rips the covers off the bed and is like "Oh". Then the reader is like "If you thought we were naked why did you rip the covers off?" and Dean gets embarrassed because he didn't think it through.”
Title: Misunderstandings
Pairings: Jack Kline x Reader, father-figure!Dean x Reader
Warnings: language, father-figured Dean (if that’s even considered a warning lol), and implied smut at the end
A/N: can i just say that i had so much fun writing this omg thank you so much for the request
FEEDBACK IS GREATLY APPRECAITED!
Your teeth were clattering together as you step inside the bunker, Jack following right behind you. You had been taking a walk when it had suddenly decided to rain. To say the both of you were soaked was an understatement.
Jack watched you in amusement as you took of sprinting, most likely to get out of your wet clothes.
And he was right. You stripped out of your soaked sweater, leaving it somewhere in the hallway, along with your shoes and socks. When you finally reached your shared room with the nephilim, you were only in your black, strapless tank top and wet jeans.
You quickly got out of those too, putting on sweats and fuzzy socks in the process. Your body was still trembling as you dove into the bed, getting under the covers in the search for warmth.
When Jack got to the doorway of the room, he smiled as he saw you laying under the covers. He discarded his own shirt, letting it drop in the hallway before stepping inside.
He swiftly put on a pair of sweats and socks before climbing into bed with you.
“Are you crazy? Why aren’t you wearing a shirt?” You scolded him softly as you noticed he was indeed shirtless.
“Why are you in a tank top?” He raised an eyebrow.
“Touché.” You giggled, rolling your eyes.
It didn’t take long before he wrapped an arm around your waist to pull you in closer to him. You shivered slightly as his cold hands contacted your uncovered skin, his hot breath fanning your face as you rested your hand on his bare chest.
“I like having you this close.” The nephilim whispered, a strand of damp hair falling on his forehead.
“I do too,” You told him honestly.
His hand shifted slightly on your side, making you giggle. He looked at you curiously and did it again, making you retract away from his touch.
“Stop it, I’m ticklish.” You laughed lightly.
His eyes lit up in amusement as he did it again, making you bust out laughing. You fought to get away from the nephilim, his own laughter mixing in with yours.
Before you knew it, your hunter instincts had kicked in and you had him pinned down. Your legs straddled his hips as both your hands held down his arms.
“Someone’s being bad,” You mused quietly, the cheeky grin on his face growing. Instead of responding, he leaned up and caught your lips with his.
Meanwhile, Dean was walking out of the kitchen and back to his room. He knew that you and Jack had gotten back from your walk, and he just wanted to check on you both.
Though it was quite a surprise for him when he saw your purple sweater laying randomly on the floor. With furrowed brows, he picked it up and continued walking towards the room you shared with Jack.
Once he saw your shoes, his mind started racing with the possibilities of what you two might be doing right now. His nose flared when he saw Jack’s shirt right out your room, the door wide open.
He could hear you giggling before it suddenly stopped, the words tumbling from your mouth almost giving him cardiac arrest.
Dean had never been the nicest when it came to your significant others, having looked out for you your entire life, he was willing to protect you at all costs. You were basically his baby sister and it drove him mad when he saw you with other guys.
Though you were old enough to make your own decisions and he couldn’t exactly forbid you from staying in Jack’s room even if he wanted too. But he sure did everything to make sure that you and your boyfriend weren’t even remotely touching.
So when he walked to the doorway of your room to see you on top of the nephilim, lips locked in a passion, he was left dumbfounded. From his point of view, you looked completely naked and seeing Jack’s bare chest, he could only assume the nephilim was as well.
Jack began peppering small kisses down your neck as you laced your hands with his, a small sigh falling your lips as your hips bucked forward. That was enough to snap Dean out of his dumbfounded phase and pretty soon all he could see was red.
“What the hell?” Dean fumed angrily as he marched into the room.
Jack and you pulled apart in surprise but before you could really process what was going on, Dean was pulling the covers right off you.
You looked at the eldest Winchester with wide eyes, raising an eyebrow as he stood there astonished. He wasn’t sure what he was expecting to see but seeing you both fully clothed was not one.
“What the heck was that for?” You snapped annoyed, glaring at Dean as you sat up, still straddling Jack.
“I thought you two were, you know.” Dean stammered out slowly, casting his gaze down towards the floor in embarrassment,.
Suddenly you felt your own anger and annoyance rise.
“You thought we were fucking, so you decided to pull off the covers?” You asked incredulously, fully getting off Jack so the nephilim could sit up. “What the actual fuck, Dean?”
“I don’t know what I was thinking but yes, it looked like you were screwing.” Dean snapped back defensively, his cheeks flushing a slight pink.
“That doesn’t make any sense,” You groaned inwardly, giving the eldest Winchester a look of disbelief. “Why would you pull off the covers then?”
“It just happened. I don’t think stuff through when I’m mad, okay?” Dean sighed, rubbing the back of his neck in a nervous manner.
You got off the bed and looked up at the hunter that you viewed as your own family. “Dean, I love you, I really do. But brother, please. What if we were naked? That would’ve been disrespecting our privacy and violating so many other unsaid laws about what you don’t what to see a family member doing. Please, for Chuck’s sake, just think things through next time.”
Dean nodded his head in understanding, sighing softly as you gave him a quick hug.
“Now get out ‘cause you really did interrupted a moment,” You smirked lightly, the hunter groaning in response. His eyes narrowed as he turned to look at Jack, who gave him an embarrassed grin.
“You hurt her, I’ll kill you.” The hunter threatened, causing you to roll your eyes as you began to push him out the room.
“He’ll be making me scream but not from pain, buddy.” You couldn’t help but laugh as Dean scrunched up his face in disgust, quickly walking out the room.
You grinned in success as you watched the eldest Winchester scurried down the hallway, most likely to put on earphones to drown away the noises you were about to make in the next few minutes.
“Now, where were we?” You purred quietly as you closed the door, making sure to lock it just in case.
“In the process of making you scream, I presume.” Jack smirked as he walked up to you. He picked you up in a swift motion, your legs straddling his waist as your arms sneaked around his neck.
“Game on.” You replied with a grin, crashing your lips against his.

"Dean?" The light from the hallway shown through into his room, only a crack, but enough to illuminate the figure standing in his doorway.
Rubbing the sleep from his eyes he squinted harshly before recognizing who was there. It was his 7 year old daughter, Y/N .
She stood there, little balled up fist raised to her eye as she rubbed it absentmindedly. Clothed in nothing but one of Dean's old t-shirts and some shorts she tightened her grip on the teddy bear given to her by Bobby.
Just by looking at her though, Dean knew something was wrong, especially with the time of night it was.
"What's wrong kiddo?" He question, throat dry as he forced himself up on his pillow. Y/N stepped closer into his room but seemed hesitant.
"I had a bad dream...c-can I come sleep with you?" Dean was now more awake than before, his new parental instincts kicking in the quieter she became.
He moved until his back was set up against the bed frame, reaching over to switch the lamp on beside his bed. They both simultaneously flinched at the bright light, Y/N sheltering her sensitive eyes with her tiny hands and Dean just seeming to squint harder.
He looked back at her, now that he could fully see her, to notice the stray tears drying on her face, her nose sniffling here and there every few seconds.
"Oh-h, yeah of course. C'mere." He opened his overly large arms awkwardly, again, still new to this whole parental thing.
But Y/N didn't seem as hesitant before, this time instead quickly making her way to his side.
She climbed over his legs with her free hand and moved until she was at his side, tucking herself right underneath his arm.
Dean cleared his throat before smiling down at her softly, noticing her doe eyes becoming heavier. Suddenly her mouth opened up but only to reveal a short-lived yawn.
Dean slowly slouched his body back down, moving so that he was laying flat on his back and she was still tucked into his side, arm wrapped tightly around her.
"Aren't you gonna turn the light off?" To say that Dean was shocked was an understatement. The seven year old who was just complaining about a nightmare with tears in her eyes and a quivering lip was asking to turn the light off? Wasn't strange at all.
"Uhm..are you sure? We can leave it on if you want."
"No." she began, finger rubbing over the teddy bear's button nose. But her attention moved away from it quickly, eyes darting up to hold Dean's stare, "I know you'll protect me from the monster."
His heart seemed to stop for minute, too filled up with this strange warm feeling that made his chest ache, but in the good way. It was strange though in a sense, being so captivated by a child's eyes.
But she was slowly beginning to mean everything to Dean, whether he recognized it or not.
"Wait," he mumbled catching her words, "Is that what you had a nightmare about? Monsters?" Dean was genuinely curious. He assumed that if he had a better idea of what she was so afraid of he could come up with a good goofy story on how to defeat them to make her feel better.
But by the way her body tensed up and the grip on her bear tightened he began to believe a funny story wasn't the cure to this fear.
"I-I don't want to tell you about it." She stumbled, voice now shaky and face turning red. Dean instantly took that at his stop sign.
"Okay okay that's fine. Why don't we just sleep then." He hastily offered, not wanting to trigger something neither of them could handle.
It went to silence after he said that, seeing that she had closed her eyes and seemed to be instantly falling asleep. So Dean nodded to himself and shut his eyes as well, feeling the tiredness from before begin to arise once more.
"Can you sing to me?" Her voice echoed off the walls and nearly scared Dean half to death, eyes shooting back open to look down at her.
"W-What?" He spoke trying to catch his breath as he gawked at the little child. She snuggled deeper into his side and he knew she was trying to convince him with her "angelic looks" or at least that's what Bobby called them.
"Sing a song?" She shortened the question this time, obviously just trying to get to the point.
Dean stared at her with a raised brow and nearly slacked jaw, shocked at how good she was with bribing. And the longer he stared, the more he knew he was going to have to sing some song to her.
Clearing his throat best as possible he let out a pitiful sigh before taking a breath.
"Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
I was soaring ever higher
But I flew too high," Dean went to clear his throat of the raspiness but it seemed as though Y/N didn't seem to mind, her eyes now shut once more.
"Though my eyes could see, I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think, I was still a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreaming
I can hear them say," Realizing that Y/N’s breath had now slowed Dean took note in lower his vocals.
"Carry on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest..." for some reason Dean caught himself, his voice stopping.
He didn't understand it at all. Why there was this feeling stirring behind his eyes. Why he pulled her closer and made sure there was enough blanket to cover her body. Why this child who irrupted from no where had made such an impact on who Dean was.
Never did Dean think he was going to be a father. Sure maybe on a rare occasion he thought about it, but with the way he was raised and with the life he lived he just didn’t see it as a logical thing to do.
But now here he was, singing Kansas to his 7 year old daughter to help cure her of her nightmares. Who would've thought?
"Don't you cry no more." And with that he finished, knowing there was no need to continue because she was clearly asleep.
He didn't think twice about kissing her forehead or switching off the lamp. After doing both things he just moved further down on the bed so both he and Y/N could rest more comfortably.
Dean never believed in angels or god, because that would mean hope would exist, that good really existed, and neither of each things had Dean really experienced or come to know. But as time went on and the supernatural proved him wrong he began to accept it.
But now, as he laid here with his child in his arms all of that cheesily began to make sense. She had become his new beacon and he wasn't going to let her go.
A scream echoed from down the hallway instantly shocking Dean awake. It was a blood-curdling cry in the dark, one that, if he hadn’t recognized the person it belonged to, would have resembled something from a horror film.
The blankets flew to the side and Dean was barreling out of his room and into the bunker hallway.
Tripping over himself he swiped at his face, rubbing the remnants of sleep away as he hastily made his way to the bedroom in which the screaming was occurring from.
Just as he rounded the corner to the door he knocked shoulders with another body. Grunting as he stumbled back he glanced up to see his younger brother, the same look of sleep ridden panic on his face.
“I-I tried calming her down but–”
“I know Sammy just let me through.”
His younger brother stared at him apologetically, feeling somewhat guilty though no one was at fault here. But he abided Dean’s words moving from the doorway out into the hallway to allow room.
Dean barged in without a so much of a second glance, dashing through the dim lighting until he was at her side.
She was wailing like an animal, hands clawing at her skin as she sobbed into the bed sheets. Her whole body was covered in a sweat, skin burning at the touch. She trembled viciously in her fetal position seeming oblivious to Dean’s presence.
Groans and moans emitted between the yelling causing Dean to flinch. If there was one thing Dean hated the most in this world it was seeing her in pain and knowing there wasn’t much he could do to ease it.
But learning a trick or two from the past couple months of this torchere Dean sat beside her on the bed.
Unexpectedly he picked her up from the mess of damp sheets into his arms, resting her body against his chest and in his lap.
He cooed to her as best as possible, mumbling “it’s okay”’s and “I’ve got you I’ve got you,” to try and tame the pitiful beast she had become.
Dean sighed shakily, tightening his grip on her inflamed body. His eyes moved around the room as he thought to himself until his memory hit him like a brick wall.
“O-Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
….I was soaring ever higher
But I flew too high,” To say Dean’s voice was quaking was an understatement, the lyrics were practically rattling in his chest. But surprisingly the words seemed to hovering over Y/N’s frail body and hold her. It seemed like it was helping to shut out the noise and the fear.
“Though my eyes could see, I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think, I was still a mad man
I hear the voices when I’m dreaming
I can hear them say,” Dean struggled to ignore the crack in his tone as he sang. But the longer he stared at her the worse he felt. Like he was losing at this job of being a decent parent and it was breaking him on the inside.
He couldn’t ignore it, he couldn’t ignore the tears that pooled in his eyes. She was so..ruined. The girl who was once so pure years ago was now just an absent memory. She had transformed into this: A broken child.
And all Dean could think about was how it must’ve been his fault.
This whole family was cursed, how could it not have been his wrong-doing?
“Carry on my wayward son
There’ll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest…” He choked mid-lyric.
Her eyes were shut now and the shaking had calmed down enough to keep her from tumbling out of his grasp but it didn’t ease Dean’s conscious. Then again nothing could, not when he saw his own flesh and blood in this way. No…there were no words, no actions that could make him feel better.
But he put his feelings aside because he didn’t have time to worry about himself, not when his daughter was in these conditions.
“Don’t you cry no more.”
Tears spilled, chest ached, and the fault burned.
A sob escaped his lips as he clutched her near lifeless body to his chest, sucking in a deep breath against the crown of her head.
“P-Please…don’t you cry no more.”
A/N: hope you enjoyed this angsty blurb!! I found it in my notes and decided I might as well post it. Send in requests!
Imagine calling your father, Dean, ‘mommy’ as a child and it sticking well into your teen years.
Dean’s maternal streak didn’t shine through his tough-man façade very often. But the moment twelve-month-old you called him mommy? He knew in an instant that he was not going to correct you. After all, Dean was essentially both halves of the parenting dynamic to you. A part of him even liked it.
“Do we have any plans for dinner tonight?” you asked from your place sprawled across the hotel bed, a book spread over your lap.
Dean pushed his chair back from the rickety table and glanced at his watch. “Sam should be back with something in half an hour or so.”
You made a face and stuck out your tongue, “He always tries to get that weird health food.”
Your dad chuckled, “You thinking what I’m thinking?”
“Pie run for dessert?” you suggested hopefully.
“I think I saw a place down the street that looked promising.”

The little girl was humming along to the end screen and jumping up and down in her seat as the screen once more already faded to black. Though she didn’t really see it, no, she was already scrambling to turn in her seat to turn those big green puppy dog eyes up at the two hunters in the room, who were reading what to the child looked like boring books over by the big table.
“Daddy! Unca Sam! Is over again!” She called out in a sing song voice, bouncing up and down in the big chair that nearly completely hid her from view to get the Winchester brothers’ attention. “Moooore!”
“Ok princess, daddy’s coming,” Dean Winchester said with a smile and a laugh before pushing his chair away from the mahogany table in the bunker to go help his little girl. Her bright eyes that looked just like her dad’s shining as she let out a happy squeal and quickly twisted and flopped back down to watch the now dark screen. “What do you wanna watch next?”
“Same one!” She chirped, repeating words Dean had heard several times the last few days. The little girl’s (Y/H/C) hair whipped around her face as she laughed at the groan that came from both Winchester brothers at her demand. Ever since they went to the shop and she saw the Halloween decorations she had demanded watching the same movie over and over. And nothing they tempted her with made her change her mind.
Honestly, Dean couldn’t understand her fascination with the one hour long Disney special. He remembered Sammy being afraid of the show when he was her age, yet the little girl loved it. Maybe it was because you loved it too. Or… You had. The thought wiped the smile off of Dean’s features as he bent down and restarted the remastered version of the old classic Disney’s Halloween Treat dvd. His little girl however, didn’t seem to notice her father’s change in mood as she started singing along to the opening song, mumbling the words she still weren’t sure about and shouting the ones she were sure of.
“Call... ONE ‘n all tonight!... Is Disney’s Hallo’een treeeeet!” Her little happy voice soothing Dean’s heart as he turned and smiled at his little girl, ruffling her hair as he sank to his knees by her chair. Chuckling to himself as she jumped up and down in her PJs and sang happily along to the old fashioned tune. She was clearly her mother’s daughter with her love of the season.
“Aren’t you bored of this yet?” Dean asked the candy apple of his eye as she finally stopped singing to laugh along with her father as if they were sharing some secret joke.
“No! Is Hallo’een!” She said, smile bright and free of worries as she made her exclamation. To the little child the month of October was magic. To her the monsters only stayed in cartoonish form on the TV, sheltered from the life the two brothers had been living since Dean was her age. So unlike the two of them, she only saw the season of monsters as an excuse to eat enough sweets to make a dentist faint, and to play around and decorate together with her mother.
At least that was how it had been until… This year you were no longer there to watch the movie with your daughter. The only two girls in Dean’s life had always watched that movie, every day for a week up to Halloween. Decorating the bunker and making spooky treats together to enjoy as you watched the movie and sang along.
This year had almost passed by without it. Without you in the bunker… Halloween, your favourite holiday, had almost passed by unnoticed. Dean’s little daughter hadn’t even known about it until they’d gone shopping together. Her big eyes turning even bigger as she’d pulled at Dean’s sleeve and pointed out the cheerful pumpkins in the shop display as she reminded her dad of the season that almost had silently gone by without any spooky celebration or happy songs.
You were always the one to decorate and go trick or treating. You would help your little angel draw up bats and ghosts to hang around the bunker. Always humming songs from your favourite seasonal movie together and filling the now deafeningly quiet bunker with song and laughter.
“Yeah cupcake. It is Halloween,” Dean chuckled, burying his own melancholy as to not worry the small child. Opting instead to stroke her cheek as the little princess graced hi with a warm, true smile. “It’s your favourite isn’t it?” He added as he stood up watching her nod vigorously, ready to return to the research he had been working on with Sam when his little girl’s voice turned his attention back to her.
“Daddy?” Her tiny voice sounded hesitant as worried, making Dean automatically tense in shared worry. Did she have a tummy ache? Maybe she was coming down with a fever? It had been getting cold.
“Yes sweetheart?” Dean asked as he turned back towards his world and watched her carefully to see if he could identify what was wrong. But she looked perfectly healthy. He just couldn’t help worrying. Her and Sam, they were all he had left.
“No... Trick or treat this year? Or cos’ume?” She looked slightly worried, and he could see the hints of a pout forming as her tiny forehead creased up. He had completely forgotten to get her a costume. You always used to take care of that… Damn it… Dean was trying so hard, but he kept forgetting the little things.
“Of course sweetheart! Of course we can go trick or treating,” Dean kept his voice soft and reassuring as he rested a big hand on her small head, stroking her hair out of her eyes. He would have to see where he could get a costume… Halloween night was the next day.
Most places would be sold out of the best ones and she had grown a lot in a year. There was no way she’d fit into the costume from the year before. Plus, poor Sammy probably wouldn’t be able to handle another year with a tiny clown running around. Though you had found hilarious. Yet before he could offer that they would go out the next day and find something, the small, sheltered Winchester princess spoke up again with a question Dean hadn’t been prepared for.
“Will you make my cos’ume then daddy?” She asked, eyes bright and hopeful as she pushed herself up in the chair until her knees were up under her. You used to always create the costumes. Dean however was no master with the needle and thread. Still, he knew that making the costume together with mommy had been his little spoiled princess favourite part of Halloween. She would draw it out with crayons on paper and they would make it together. It wouldn’t be perfect. But she would love it, and you would…
“Princess… Maybe we should buy one this time?” Dean said, clearing his throat to keep it from wavering as he put on a brave smile for the little girl. Of course she would expect a homemade costume. Hell, you’d made her costumes from the first Halloween when she was only a few months old. Sure, the seams might have been a bit crooked, but they’d looked awesome in Dean’s eyes. Dean doubted he could even make two pieces of cloth stick together.
“Nooo daddy,” The pouty princess whined, throwing her best puppy dog eyes over at her dad and pretty much giving him no choice but to agree. The small child had, had him wrapped around her tiny little finger since the day she was born. Once those big green eyes looked up at him, he was pretty much powerless. “With ‘Unca Sam?” The littlest Winchester added, throwing the puppy dog look over at Sam who seemed just as lost as Dean.
“Daddy will think of something princess… I can get your crayons after… But for now you’re missing your favourite,” Dean said, giving in and turning to shrug at his younger brother who looked slightly freaked out at the idea of acting like the fairy godmother to the little kid. But hell, if he was gonna make a costume he would need backup, and Sammy always had his back. And the happy little squeal that followed her words made it worth whatever mess the two Winchester brothers would have to go through to make her dreams come true
“Thank you daddy!” She sing-songed before twisting back into her seat to be fully enraptured by the movie once more.
---
“What am I gonna do Sammy?” Dean asked his brother after finally tucking the tiny girl into bed. Falling back into the chair he’d left to help her brush her teeth he shut his eyes with a sigh, still holding the childish crayon drawing his little girl had given him of the witch costume she wanted. His hand shook as he tried to keep his voice low to not wake the small girl just down the hall. “(Y/N) was the one that was good at this… I just… I’m no good without her,”
For a second only the light rustling of the paper in his hand filled the library as Dean locked his jaw in an effort of keeping the pain inside. You had been his better half. You always knew the right thing to do or say when it came to your child.
“I don’t know if I can… It’s just so hard to go on like this, without her,” Dean said, breaking the silence as his voice finally cracked over the words and he forced his eyes open before he sank too far down into the darkness to pull himself back out. The childish smiling face of the witch drawn on the paper the first thing greeting him as he felt unshed tears burn his eyes.
“Hey, Dean… Don’t say that. There’s a little girl down the hall that needs her daddy,” Sam said, his expression serious and slightly hurt, though his tone stayed soft and low. Sam was right… Dean wasn’t the only one who had lost you. Your daughter, and Sam, your best friend, was hurting too. He had to protect the two of them. And he could do that. He could act like a shield, but…
“I know… But I can’t sew, or even remember to decorate for Halloween. I haven’t been baking cookies with her or…” Dean sighed letting his words die out as the list grew of the things you used to do with your little hyper girl. Dean hadn’t been ignoring her, no he had been spending most of his time with her. Playing and teaching her how to read. But, he couldn’t be both you and himself.
“You’ve been doing great Dean. And I’m here to help. Come on… You know what (Y/N) would say if she heard you,” Sam said, lightly tugging the drawing out of Dean’s hands before he wrinkled the page between his shaking hands. A small sad smile on Sammy’s lips telling Dean that both Winchester brothers were thinking the exact same thing.
“She wouldn’t say nothing… She’d just kick my ass,” He supplied with a small broken laugh. He could almost see you, hands folded over your waist and one hip popped as you glared at him. Telling him to get his act together or “so help me God”… You used to be the one keeping him on the straight and narrow, making his days bright. Now it was the child you left behind that brightened his dark days.
“Exactly,” “You can do this… We can do this,” Sam said, his hand patting the older Winchester’s shoulder before refocusing on the childish drawing of a witch. The determination in his voice making Dean believe that the two of them could handle it together. After all, they’d saved the world from ruin several times. Making a costume for a kid would be a walk in the park.
“But… Where do we start?” Dean asked, looking from his younger brother who had helped him every step of the way since your death to the drawing Sam now held in his hands. Focusing all his attention on it he sighed. That clearly wouldn’t help. It wasn’t as if numbers and instructions would magically appear just because he looked at it hard enough.
“I guess we need to uhm… Cut it into shapes?” Sam said, turning the drawing around in his big hands. “And then sew it together?” The younger Winchester’s words all sounded like uncertain questions however. The earlier bravado gone now that Dean had pulled himself out of his brief recess in the darkened parts of his broken heart.
“Have you ever sewn anything?” Dean sighed, at least he knew where your sewing kit was. But hell if he knew how to actually sew together a costume. He’d only done basic fixes when he was younger and something of Sammy’s needed a quick stitch to be good as new again.
“Other than cuts and wounds? Never…” Sam sighed his brow furrowed as he followed the lines of the tiniest member of the Men of Letter bunker’s drawing. Though just as his hand reached the hat, the bright light returned to the young hunter’s eyes and Dean swore he could actually see the light come on in a lightbulb above his head. “Hey… Maybe we can reuse something? Start with a big black t-shirt for the dress?” Sam asked grinning.
Yeah… That could work. Damn, that was why Dean couldn’t help being proud of his baby brother. The kid was smart and could think outside of the box. And Dean had just the t-shirt they could use.
“You’re a genius Sammy! I have a completely black t-shirt, and if we take something orange too and tear it up in strips…” Dean said replacing his brother’s hand on the drawing as he followed the lines whilst he spoke. And so the two hunters sat down to work through the night. Determined to make a little girl’s happy Halloween come true.
Even though their small family was slightly smaller than it had been just one year earlier.

Summary: The Reader and Dean finally decide to make their family official as Dean lets himself trust that this love, this life with her and their daughter, will last.
Pairing: Dean x Reader
Word Count: 3,875
Warnings: So. Much. Fluff. Tiny bits of anxiety, but really. FLUFFY. SFW.
Author’s Note: This ends up outside of canon in plot, but I hope the characters are still canonical. Between the first fic and this sequel, I managed to work in all the lyrics of Glitter in the Air by P!nk—the result of a challenge/celebration I held for reaching 2k. This part of the story was planned as soon as I was given the prompt by @dancingalone21, and I meant to post this conclusion on the 22nd of September, Fluff Appreciation Day, but life got in the way. Thanks for all the feedback on part 1, “Have You Ever?” everyone, and if you haven’t read it, I recommend you do so before reading this. It’s not strictly necessary, but it will make more of an impact if you do. Also, this is the first time I’ve written Dean as an actual father with a child OC, so I’d love feedback.
It had to have been one of the happiest nights of your life.
You had known it was coming—honestly, it had taken way too long in your opinion. Dean’s baggage, his hunting, the raising of your daughter all seemed to delay the inevitable, but it had finally happened.
And you couldn’t have been more thrilled. Nothing could have made your night any better.
Except maybe this moment.
You had left your 3-year-old with her Uncle Sammy and Castiel while you and Dean had gone out. They were more than capable of watching over her, but since she had both of them wrapped around her little chubby toddler fingers, there was never any predicting what would happen while you were gone.
You and Dean leaned against the door jamb, silently laughing and watching the disastrous conclusion of the arts and crafts experiment Sam had been brave enough to try.
“Please, Samantha Grace? We’re trying to decorate the card for mommy—don’t you want to add more color instead?”
Samantha Grace refused to hand over the container of glitter, “no! Sparkles!”
Her guardian angel was sitting next to her, his head tilted quizzically, “Sam, why does she seem so attached to these colorful reflective pieces of plastic?”
You looked at Dean and raised an eyebrow, silently asking if you should step in and prevent the coming catastrophe. He shook his head and wrapped his arms around your midsection, his head resting next to yours as the two of you watched it unfold.
Sure enough, Samantha Grace started shaking the glitter tube vigorously, making a small mountain on the colored paper. Sam reached over and liberated the tube, but too late—her little fists were in the pile and moments later the sparkles were airborne.
Have you ever thrown a fistful of glitter in the air?
“Ah, man! Samantha Grace, you’re covered in glitter!”
Castiel’s voice seemed slightly worried, “it seems we all are now…. Sam, does this stuff come off?”
“Sparkles!” Samantha Grace was already throwing more in the air, standing up to spin in her glitter storm, loving the way it fell around and on her.
Dean’s chuckle vibrated through your whole body and he placed a quick kiss on your temple before moving around you, bending to scoop up his daughter and swing her around as she squealed in excitement.
“Hey little monster! Have you been having fun with Uncle Sammy? Look at how sparkly you are!”
Sam and Cass stood up, trying unsuccessfully to brush the glitter off of themselves.
You laughed and walked into the room, taking Samantha from Dean when she reached out her arms to you. “We make a card for you, Mommy!”
“You did?!” You overdid your excitement, bending down while holding her to grab the colorful paper. You tilted it first to get the remains of the glitter pile and then opened it, oohing and ahhing at her drawing on the inside.
“This is so pretty, sweetie, thank you!”
“Is for you! Unka Sammy says Daddy took you on a special dinner. Did you have cake?” Her voice turned adorably suspicious, and you could tell she felt like she had been denied a treat. The smile on your face was so wide, you worried it was going to start to hurt your cheeks.
Unfortunately, your baby girl was getting to be a handful, so you put her down, your arms already straining beneath her. You worried sometimes about missing out on time with her—she was growing so fast! You still worked your job at the hospital and Samantha Grace alternated between day care and being watched by Mary here at home in the bunker. Mary had taken a haunting case yesterday and was due back early tomorrow morning.
You put the card back down and looked at Dean, whose grin was matching yours. You shelved your worries and focused on the happiness of your family—and the news you were about to share.
“No, baby, we didn’t have cake. But Daddy did have a surprise for me—he gave me a present. Isn’t it pretty?”
You held your hand out to your daughter who immediately grabbed it and stared at the ring that now sat securely on your left ring finger.
Dean had done well—it wasn’t a traditional ring. It was both practical and beautiful: flat, so you could wear it under hospital gloves, and the design was white gold with a small line of round white diamonds in the center of an infinity symbol that combined two hearts. It was romantic and wonderful and you cherished it as a symbol of the strong love between the two of you.
And of the future you had together.
You smiled up at Dean again, who was getting his back patted by his taller younger brother.
“I told you it was worth it to go to Jared’s.” Sam’s voice was smug and you laughed, standing up. Samantha was still staring at your ring, and you let her keep hold of your hand as you reached out to wrap Sam in a one-armed hug.
While you held him there, you whispered in his ear, “thanks for giving him the push he needed.”
Sam leaned back and winked, acknowledging your thanks.
You knew Dean had been stalling. Considering his history it was understandable—but you also knew that he had quite the romantic inner core. He believed in love and happily-ever-afters: he just didn’t think he’d ever get one.
You had decided more than three years ago when you walked away from your old boring life to be with Dean to make it your mission to change his mind about that. This was your first concrete proof that he had started to do so.
Cass walked up next, standing there awkwardly, not knowing what to do with his hands and arms. “Congratulations to both of you—”
“Daddy, why did Mommy get a present? Is it her birfday?” Samantha Grace’s strident voice drowned out even Castiel’s gravel. We were still working on the concept of ‘inside voice’ with her.
Dean chuckled and bent down to pick her up again, “No, little monster, it’s not Mommy’s birthday. I got Mommy the special ring because I love her bunches and bunches and bunches—” he started tickling her with each repetition and she squealed delightedly, squirming in his arms and causing a shower of glitter to fall from her hair and clothes to the floor below.
Dean righted her and you caught a quick pout from your daughter at your announcement, but it was ruined by the wide yawn she gave a moment later.
Dean walked her around for her nightly ritual of giving everyone who was home a hug before bedtime: ‘giving loves’. She giggled at how sparkly Sam was and he indulgently shook his mane and sprinkled her in more sparkles. She gave Cass a kiss on his cheek and you watched as his normally stoic expression melted into one of adoration.
Samantha Grace had that effect on the two men she had been named after.
When it came time for your hug you took her and cuddled her close, breathing in the smell of your precious baby girl. You felt Dean lean in close, so you lifted your chin for a kiss from him, perfecting the moment.
“You want me to clean her up and put her to bed tonight?”
You nodded, switching her back to her father’s arms once more. She was getting really sleepy now, already half past the point of oblivion, and she tucked her head against Dean’s shoulder while you picked a few pieces of glitter off of his shirt with a grin.
“Good luck with that first part.” You stepped up on your tip toes to kiss your new fiancé and the love of your life again. “And afterwards, let’s take advantage of the beginning of the end.” He raised an eyebrow and you explained, “the hourglass is on the table now. You’ll be making an honest woman out of me soon enough, Mr. Winchester.”
Dean laughed softly and tucked your hair behind your ear before turning and walking out of the room with Samantha. You watched them go with a happy sigh before turning to hunt down a broom for the floor.
Two months later
Why in Chuck’s name were you so nervous?
You’d been looking forward to this moment for years—the moment when you could yell to the entire world that you loved Dean Winchester, and he loved you back, and make it completely official that he was yours and no one else’s.
You were wearing an elegantly simple but gorgeous dress. Your friends and family—by love, not blood—were waiting for you outside under a starry sky, and you were quaking in your dress shoes about walking out in front of them all to say your vows.
What was wrong with you?
“Hey, Y/N, you got a lot of twitchy hunters out here waiting for—what’s wrong?” Jody’s face went serious when she got a good look at yours.
You could feel your heartbeat in your ears, your pulse pounding.
“I think—I don’t know what’s wrong with me Jody!”
She was there beside you in an instant, this sheriff/hunter who had become your best friend over the last few years. Since both of you were no-nonsense emergency personnel and strong mothers who cared for hunters and took care of them as best as you could—you’d bonded almost immediately.
Jody had you by the forearms, turning you away from the floor length mirror you’d propped beside the door to look straight at her.
“Breathe, Y/N. Deep breaths, sweetie…. That’s it… in… out….”
You synced your breaths with hers, trying to tune out the panic bolting through you. What the hell was wrong with you?
“It’s going to be fine, Y/N. It’s just pre-wedding jitters—every bride gets them at some point.”
Mary came in next, looking strange in a knee-length light blue dress instead of her usual denim and flannel, and shutting the doors behind her.
You ignored her, focusing on your breathing.
“Y/N? Jody, what’s wrong with her? She’s pale as her dress!” She hurried down the stairs and into the kitchen without waiting for a response, and was back a minute later with a large glass of water.
You took it gratefully, gulping down half of it in one go.
“Just a little anxious about taking the walk. She was practically hyper-ventilating when I walked in.”
Mary nodded, and a look of understanding passed between the two women.
You licked your lips, swallowing the fear before the phrase, “have you ever felt this way?”
Mary produced a tissue from a stash she’d apparently squirreled away for later and began dabbing at the makeup around your eyes. You hadn’t realized you’d smeared anything, but apparently you had.
“Oh yes, honey. I forced John to get married in Reno and I was still nervous as hell.”
Jody laughed, taking the glass of water from you and moving behind you to fix whatever you had done to your hair.
“I had the more traditional wedding—small town, church, white dress, big family, the whole shebang. I was a full bridezilla making sure everything went well, way worse than you… but when I saw Sean at the end of the aisle…” She walked around to look you in the eye again and there was still muted pain in her eyes as she thought of her husband who had died many years ago when she was first introduced to the supernatural.
“Well, when I saw him—my nerves took a back seat. I’m betting it will be the same for you when you see Dean out on the grass tonight.”
You smiled, shaky but genuine at the image in your head. You’d seen Dean in his tux and it was certainly enough to distract you from any nerves you were feeling right now.
“I think I’ll be okay now.” You looked back and forth at these two wonderful women, finding their hands and squeezing, “thank you so much.”
“Don’t mention it.”
“It’s what family does, sweetheart.”
Jody backed towards the door and nodded once more. “I’m going to go play the march music, give me one minute, then you two follow, okay?”
Mary nodded, and you focused on your breathing, making sure you didn’t get worked up again.
“Thanks for walking me down the aisle, Mary. I haven’t had parents since I was very young, so you…” You coughed, clearing your throat and changed topics. You couldn’t afford to get upset. You had only seconds left. “I know it means a lot to Dean too, having you here.”
Mary hugged you gently, being careful not to muss your hair and makeup.
“Y/N, you are a blessing in this family—the way you make Dean so happy. And the way you let me help you with Samantha Grace. I may have missed out on raising my boys, but I’m glad you’re the mother of my granddaughter… and I am proud to claim you as my daughter.”
“Stop it, Mary, you’re going to make me cry.”
She chuckled and linked your arm in hers. “Well, we can’t have that. Let’s go, Y/N.”
And she led the way through the bunker doors and up the three concrete stairs to the road where Baby was parked.
Apparently someone, probably Sam, had decided to ignore Dean’s threats and window chalk “Just Married” on the back window anyway—at least he hadn’t tied cans or anything to the bumper.
The sun was setting, right on schedule, and the colors in the sky were beautiful. It was absolutely perfect.
You let Mary pull you gently across the road to the empty lot opposite the doors—a field that was usually open grass pasture but was now decorated with poles and electric lights, a smooth aisle made of garden pathway stones placed end to end with the guest arranged on either side in white plastic chairs. There were light blue flower petals sprinkled across the stones—courtesy of your daughter, who had been eager to be the flower girl at the ceremony.
As you stepped onto the stones with Mary’s hand on your arm, linked by your elbows, you vaguely recognized the music playing through the discreet speakers as Pachelbel’s Cannon in D and the fact that all the guests were standing as you passed.
Most of them were hunters, some were people from the hospital that you worked at, and at that moment, they could have been dancing naked in front of you.
You weren’t paying them any attention.
Your eyes were fixed on the end of your path where Sam and Dean had assembled a wedding arch that you had spent hours decorating with flowers and vines over the last few days.
Castiel was standing in the middle, having agreed to officiate the service—rather reluctantly. You couldn’t think of any person in the world you would rather have do it though, and Dean had convinced him to go through with it.
Sam was standing to one side, opposite of Jody. He was tall and radiating happiness, but he wasn’t the one your eyes focused on.
They were locked on Dean.
He was standing between the two men, his brothers, and his eyes were locked on yours as well—the expression on his face enough to literally take your breath away.
Suddenly walking down the path didn’t seem difficult at all. The way you felt—it might as well have been the walk before the run.
Your legs weren’t shaky. Your palms weren’t sweaty.
At that moment, you could have laughed for the joy welling inside you. If you hadn’t been wearing a dress, you would have considered doing cartwheels the rest of the way down the aisle.
Your attention was dragged away from Dean only for a moment, when you heard Samantha Grace calling to you from the front row.
“I poured out all the flowers, Mommy!”
Donna, who had volunteered to watch her during the ceremony, seemed embarrassed, but your little girl was very proud of herself. You gave her a thumbs up in acknowledgment as the crowd chuckled.
Then you were there. And Mary was placing your hand in Dean’s before going to sit beside her granddaughter.
Castiel was talking for a solid minute before you came out of your daze. The anxiety was back in full force, and if Dean hadn’t had your hands gripped solidly in his own, you probably would have fallen down or run away.
Everyone was staring at you.
What were you supposed to do? Castiel was still talking.
“I have lived a long time—longer than it would seem if you looked at me. I’ve learned many things in my time about relationships and the bonds that form between people. A marriage is a more formal bond than the one that Dean and Y/N currently hold—but as a close personal friend of both the bride and the groom, I can say with complete confidence that the bond that is between them is already stronger and more enduring than the ones that form between most couples.
“It is a bond which has withstood distance, danger, and uncertainty. They have brought a beautiful soul into the world in the form of their daughter, and they have worked together to raise her in the best way possible, despite their challenging careers which both make the world a better place in different ways.”
Castiel looked to Jody and Sam now, who both stepped forward.
“These witnesses, and the guests that have gathered to celebrate with you today, have come to witness this union of love between the two of you.
“Do you, Dean Winchester, take this woman to be your lawfully married wife?”
“I do.” Dean’s voice was strong and proud. You swallowed, hoping you could match him in this.
“Do you, Y/F/N Y/L/N, take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?”
“I do.” You sounded surprisingly normal.
You had practiced this with all of them multiple times. Next came the vows. You and Dean had kept yours secret from each other, saving them as a surprise for now. Dean was first.
“Y/N, you are an amazing woman and mother. You make me happy in ways that I never knew I could be. My life was never going to be ordinary, but since you came into it, each day is more extraordinary than the next, and I don’t know what I could have possibly done to deserve to have you in my life. I vow tonight to always do my best to make sure you never regret sharing your life with me. I love you, Sugar.”
You licked your lips and smiled, then took a breath and recited what you had memorized for Dean.
“Dean, from the moment you first knocked on my door four years ago, I was lost. You are a hero, not just to me, but to the entire world, but you still chose to be with me. I am so thankful for the strength and love you give to me and our daughter so freely, and I look forward to returning that love for the rest of my life. I vow tonight to always give you my love unconditionally, no matter what challenges the world and our lives may throw at us.”
He squeezed your hands and you were lost in his green eyes for a moment before Castiel prompted you to repeat after him:
“I promise to be honest, faithful, and supportive of you and our family in sickness and in health, for better or worse, as long as we both shall live.”
Dean repeated it too.
It felt like everything was moving so fast.
Sam was handing Dean a ring, and he was sliding it on next to your engagement ring.
Jody handed you the simple band and you tried to keep from shaking as you slid it on Dean’s finger.
He was almost at the end now.
“By the power vested in me by the God of the universe, and by the state of Kansas, I now officially pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss each other.”
This was it. It was official—it was the breath before the kiss, and then Dean’s lips were on yours, and your hands were around his neck, and you forgot your nervousness again.
Sam and Jody only gave the two of you a moment to enjoy it before throwing the rice. Dean stepped back and the two of you reluctantly turned to smile at the photographer.
Samantha Grace wiggled away from Donna and Mary and came running up to be in the photo so you and Dean posed again with her. He picked her up and carried her in one arm back to his mother, his other hand gripping yours tightly as you walked to the right of the arch where Sam and Dean had assembled the remaining garden tiles to create a small dance floor.
Garth, their former hunter-werewolf friend, served as the DJ along with his lovely wife Bess. You trusted her judgment more than Garth’s.
The sun had fully set now, leaving the summer night to descend—the stars and a 3/4 moon were out to help the electric fairy lights you had so painstakingly hung throughout the area. It had all come together so well—but you didn’t stop to admire your success.
Have you ever wished for an endless night? Lassoed the moon and the stars and pulled that rope tight?
Even though you were looking forward to having him to yourself later, a part of you wished you never had to leave his arms as he pulled you onto the dance floor.
Dean pulled you close and his gravel voice was in your ear. “Y/N, are you okay, babe? You’re really quiet.”
You smiled at him and pulled him closer. “I’m perfect right now, Dean. I have you.”
He squeezed you tight then placed his hands carefully to begin the first traditional dance. “And I have you, forever.”
Garth and Bess queued up the first song, one that Dean had insisted on: “My Lady Soul” by the Temptations. He knew you loved it.
The two of you had practiced this dance too—and Dean had the natural rhythm to make it flow beautifully now. So much so that when he moved closer to you and began to sing softly to you as you danced on, it was still easy to keep the steps.
“I'm ready to surrender, my love, lay it all in your hands, give you my forever, everything I am....”
“Forever indeed, Mr. Winchester.”
You spun out and caught a glimpse of Sam dancing with Mary, of Castiel holding Samantha Grace, of your friends and family all enjoying themselves, and then you were back in Dean’s arms and he was taking your breath away again with the intensity of his gaze.
“I love you so much, Y/N.”
And he was kissing you again, right there in the middle of the dance floor, and in that moment, everything was as perfect as any happily ever after could ever hope to be.
Not enough fluffy for you? Don’t worry…I’m planning on picking up this story once more. Dean’s going to carry that first dance song into the bedroom to celebrate their honeymoon. Look for the fic, “Forever After” and all its fluffy goodness. :)

Castiel loves his family but sometimes, his husband and daughter had really stupid ideas.
Castiel: What are you and Claire doing outside with this weather, it’s raining like cats and dogs outside.
Dean: We’re playing and dancing in the rain, Love, we are making happy family memories.
Castiel: You’re going to get sick.
Dean: Come play with us, grumpy.
Claire: Yes, come dancing with us papa, it’s so much fun.
Castiel looks at his daughter and husband joyful face and stops caring. A little cold never killed anyone after all. Castiel took his five years old in his arms.
Castiel: Give me one of your best smiles, and it’s a deal my little Bee.
