in honor of finding out just now that my blog finally hit 100,000 posts after 10+ years on this damn hellsite (sort of; I was going to do this anyway), I am here to present to you all today a glowing review for that Dangerous Plastic-Destroying Crow Boy book we were all memeing about last month! yes I bought it! and it's actually REALLY enjoyable!!

I ordered a physical copy on a whim going "oh yeah that actually sounds kinda fun and neat, let's support an Aussie author, worst case if I don't enjoy it then it can float around an op-shop somewhere ig" and......... then I got hooked by like chapter 5 lmfao and it was all downhill from there (in a good way!); I just finished it a few minutes ago and I am immediately coming here to gush about it in the hopes that others will give it a shot like I did bc it was such a fun ride-- if you like fantasy settings, post-apocalyptic worldbuilding, main characters overcoming their struggles with self-worth/guilt/insecurity, snappy prose, cheesy sex scenes and monsterfucking (there is literally no other way I can phrase this bc 70% of the cast are basically kemonomimi), it's highly probable you will enjoy this book :'D

I kept a running thought-log for my sister who had seen all the memes but wasn't that invested in giving it a read; even if you don't end up reading the book, I hope you enjoy my totally blind summary up until the halfway point!

finishing up with some spoilery thoughts under the cut:

TWO FEET AND A WINGBEAT oughfghdfjl my HEART I was honestly tearing up at how her motto slowly morphed over time, I totally called she would become a magpie shifter but it was so sweet how they handled it at the end there, reconciling her past and new lives and honouring the memory of all the things she lost waking up after the Freeze hjfkl,,,, , I have so many thoughts and NOBODY TO TALK TO ABOUT IT but man this book made me emotional a few times haha :'D

I LOVED Blake's arc and her struggles with the insecurity her ex's character-assassination left her with, as well as her sense of loss and bewilderment at the drastically different world she's been thrown into; the echoes of her trauma resound throughout the plot and it made me so sad every time she retreated back into her insecurities-- it was really well-written and struck a chord with my personal experiences :'>

also seeing how River changed over the course of the book and how he manages to break out of his circle of self-loathing and shame and guilt, and the trust that they build with eachother.... I really loved their whole relationship and the way their personalities and flaws and vices intertwine and bolster eachother's strengths/make up for eachother's shortcomings, it's going to be so hard going back to previous books in the series bc I just love these specific two so much (and the whole crow kettle honestly) and all the other couples feel less interesting to me personally, but I reckon I'll give one of the wolf shifter's books a go next so I can get context from the beginning especially after having spent nearly the whole book slowly piecing together SO many things and constantly flipping back like "wait so THAT's what that meant" lmao

ALSO THAT TWIST ENDING WITH ASH my metaphorical jaw was on the floor I swear, I did not see that coming at all and I was so sad (I liked Ash!! I thought he was cool! he had a mate all along and was keeping her captive?? BRO what the fuck! I feel like I need to go reread it all to recontextualise it with this new info)
