Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

For the Favorite Book Shop @youthbookreview and @booksbeyondimagining did. @rand0mbookgirl picked it. I'm not good at book reviews, sorry.

Published in 2007, Thirteen Reasons Why is about Hannah, a teenage girl who commits suicide. She records a series of cassette tapes that tell the story of why she killed herself and sends them to thirteen different people. (In the author interview, Asher says “When something is out-of-date but the characters know it, the book is suddenly up-to-date.”) Clay, the narrator, is one of them, although at first he can't figure out why. The suspense is wonderful. 

Now, why would a dead girl lie? Hey, that sounds like a joke. Why would a dead girl lie? Answer: Because she can't stand up.

I hated Bryce from page 51 when he said “Just relax.” Rude!

It doesn't cost anything to ride the bus at night, so I hop on. I found that odd. Why is it free at night?

My school did the same Valentine's Day fundraiser but you got both “soul mates” and “best friends.”

No one knows for certain how much impact they have on the lives of other people. Oftentimes, we have no clue. Yet we push it just the same. I just like this quote.

Interesting that Hannah couldn't say the word suicide even while she was planning it.

I wonder who Bryce raped. For a bit I thought she might be Skye but it wasn't.

The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch that I got  it from the secret santa book swap from the lovely @thebabeontheback and I’m reading together with @book-bee as our first challenge for the #booksweetheart

So we’ve had 9 people either back out of the Favorite Book Swap as Readers or not respond to our messages within the 3-day deadline, so we need volunteers to be additional Readers!

You do not already have to be participating in the Swap to do this! If you’re not signed up to participate, that’s okay! It means you won’t be recommending your favorites for anyone to read, but you’ll still be reading a favorite book of someone else’s who signed up last week. If that sounds like something you’d like to do, send me a chat or an ask (or reply to this post and I’ll get in contact with you)!
