I've only listened to the first 2 Dungeon Crawler Carl books and I kind of hate how very late into the first book Carl says to himself "You will not break me" and then says that phrase had become a mantra.

Sir, that was your first time saying it as far as I can recall. I feel like it was a mantra at that point I would have already heard it enough times to not need to be told it is a mantra.

(Saying this cause I know it's gonna become some bigger thing later on and it annoys me that it got kinda shoved in randomly rather than growing naturally.)

I'm listening the the Red Queen series (on book 2) and ugh I'm so annoyed by Mare. She keeps putting her lust towards Cal in front of everything else and acting like he is a victim when just a few days ago he was actively hunting down her people. Girl just cause he was betrayed too does not make him one of you.

I got 3 free credits on audible from a trial and have used up 2 (1 was on a 2 for 1 credit deal so yay) but I'm trying to decide what to use the last credit on:

Project Hail Mary which a lot of people says is a great audiobook (have not seen the movie)

Or

The Dark Lord's Guide to Dating (which has a sequel coming out this year).

Unless someone has a better suggestion (I like fantasy, scifi, and romance). And yes I already used a credit on Dungeon Crawler Carl.

Also, trying for audible only books cause I can get others from chirp or libro.fm.

Started listening to an audiobook. Great start, instantly hooked, like the narrator's voice and tonality -

...they just pronounced "sigil" with as "sigg-ill" not "sijh-ill".

I hope it doesn't become a dealbreaker. I do have the physical book at least.

I started re-listening to Dream a Little Dream by Kerstin Gier which was published idk how many years ago

But they just named a character's dead ex-boyfriend as "Tom Holland" and now I am cackling.

Rereading a book I loved as teenager now that I have a fully developed frontal lobe is an interesting experience because the characters I found sympathetic at 16 now make me irrationally angry.

Books on Libby have started disappearing.

My friend pointed it out first, and then I started noticing too. Why would books that multiple libraries definitely, 100% had digital access to a couple of months/weeks/days ago disappear?

Amazon is getting exclusive rights to them.

Ebooks that the public library once had digital copies of are now only available through Amazon. Audible boasts on their covers about Audible-exclusive audiobooks that did not used to be Audible-exclusive. Entire series and collections are disappearing overnight.

Keep your eyes on the privatization of media and your libraries.

According to this article on The Verge, it's been happening since at least 2021, but if I were to make a guess, Amazon has doubled down recently in response to the boycotts: if there are specific books people want, particularly ones only available digitally available, they now have the monopoly, and you are forced to scab, which often also means remaking your account and breaking your boycott altogether.

Now more than ever, support your local libraries, support authors directly when possible, and support your local used bookstores!
