One of my absolute favourite Todoroki panels is after Endeavor defeats Hood and Shoto just collapses into a crouch. There's something so very human in that moment where he is hit with all his emotions at once like when you release a held breath: realisation he didn't want to see Endeavor die, relief his father is alive, angry that he's feeling relief for Enji's safety, confusion about how he feels, etc. What are some of your fav BNHA panels for showing conflicted emotion?
Agreed, that panel is a huge favourite of mine, especially because it’s pretty much the only time Todoroki cries (other than his fight with Deku). I have so many favourites honestly - way more than I could list. Horikoshi is a genius when it comes to conflicted emotions. Here we go:
1. Aizawa realizing not only the truth about Kurogiri, but that a piece of Shirakumo is inside him. His face just kills me.
2. Shouto visiting his mom. I love how the emotions in his two eyes are different, but there is a nice switch up, where actually his left side is just pure compassion, while the right side seems to have some fear that he’ll mom will reject him.
3. Bakugou - I could probably pull up at least 50 favourite Bakugou panels. The boy is just so expressive. But my favourites are the ones with All Might. I think that it comes across how deep his admiration and faith in the man is, and how much craves his approval. This one, when All Might shows up to save him is brilliant. You can see him actively trying to crush his relief and gratitude and just finally dropping the brave face for a moment.
4. My favourite Midoriya panel is when he gets ready to punch All Might. As he goes through the oh, shit what am I doing to the determination. Great stuff.
5. Shiggy. His mixed feelings and expressions are part of what elevated him as villain.
6. Hawks with Twice. What an absolutely heartbreaking panel.
7. Natsuo is amazing when it comes to the portrayal of the gut-wrenchingly complex emotions Endeavor’s family is feeling about his attempt at atonement. I love how he just crumples when Endeavor tells him that he’s kind. Like it shouldn’t matter what he thinks, but it still does somehow.
