Overheated
Whumper had let their pet out to play a while ago, noticing the fidgety energy that morning. The pet had earned it, proving more then once they wouldn't run away or fight now when given the chance.
Hours later though after being engrossed in a novel Whumper realized the house was too quiet.
Whumper looked up from their book, frowning a little. Normally by now they heard the clatter from the kitchen as their pet started making food. "Pet?" They called.
No answer came though, which was odd. Maybe letting them outside today wasn't the best idea if they weren't going to listen after.
Whumper sighed and put the book down, going to look for the pet. They checked all the normal hiding spots Pet used to go to when trying to get out of something, frowning a little when all were empty. "Whumpee?" They called, using the pets name so they knew they were in trouble.
After about 15 more minutes of searching Whumper stopped by a window, finding out exactly why pet wasn't responding. They were still outside, hiding under the shade of a tree in the backyard. How had they gotten out? They never went outside without permission. That's when whumper realized, they'd forgotten to let pet back inside.
Muttering quiet curses they made a beeline for the door, snatching a plastic water bottle from the kitchen as they went by. "Darling?" They called as they pushed the back door open, going outside.
Pet picked their head up hearing their master, sitting up a little bit. They whimpered when they tried to get up, their sunburned body protesting.
Whumper held a hand out to let them know to stop, slowing as they got closer. "I am so sorry darling I forgot to leave the door open so you could come back inside." They said as they sat by pet. They unscrewed the top of the water bottle. "Here, take little sips of this." They said as they held the waterbottle out.
Pet grabbed the water bottle, taking a small sip with shakey hands. "Everything hurts." They whined, setting the waterbottle between their legs.
Whumper sighed. Every bit of exposed skin on whumpee was red and angry. They tried to remember if they had any aloe inside, and what would be the best way to get their pet inside without harming them a bunch. "Do you want me to carry you or do you want to walk?"
Pet thought for a moment. "I don't know...." they finally said. Moving hurt so bad, but they guessed touching would hurt worse.
Whumper nodded. "I'll carry you then, I am so sorry." They placed a gentle kiss to their pets head, scooping them up and avoiding touching any exposed skin best they could.
Pet grabbed the waterbottle on the way up, taking another small sip as they were carried inside. They noticed the time on the clock, whining. "I need to make food."
"No, you need to sit down here, food can wait." Whumper said, setting pet in a chair and going to find the aloe. They came back a moment later with the tube of green-ish gel, pulling another chair up. They carefully applied the aloe to the red areas, feeling bad for every whimper that escaped pet. "I am so sorry darling, next time if the door shuts knock on the window and I'll let you back in, okay?" They should've done something like that from the getgo, but they hadn't thought of it.
Pet gave a small nod. "Yes master.." they looked ag the red skin. "What do you want to eat?" They asked a moment later, planning on still carrying out their duties.
"Aww baby, I can't have you cooking like this. I'll order some takeout." Whumper said, gently placing a kiss to pets hair. "Let's get you comfortable on the couch until this stops hurting so much." They grabbed the waterbottle and gently took pegs hand, leading them to the couch and getting them sat down so they were as comfortable as they could be. They felt stupid for forgetting to check the door, now their pet was harmed because of it and they hadn't even done anything wrong other then listen. They grabbed their phone off the coffee table and ordered food, sitting by their pet in case they needed something and couldn't get it. They'd have to figure out something for pet to be able to use if the door shut and they got stuck out like this again.
