Okay so Dumbledore's plan to keep Harry from dying in the chamber of secrets was to have his phoenix save him but then later says he would only appear if he showed true loyalty to him. So if he had doubted Dumbledore even slightly after only really talking to him a handful of times and being dropped off at an abusive household by him even though he was warned against it he would have fucking died? Is that not a little brutal?
