Yeah, I used to be a fan of Tinkerbell movies when I was a kid, and I have no idea how or why, but my hyperfixation returned yesterday. XD
Anyways! Me is not me if I don't write something, so enjoy part 1 of the thing =]
"Let’s see here," Tinkerbell muttered, tossing aside a bent brass spoon, a waterlogged cork, and other useless things, "No... no... Now this is interesting!"
Tink dug the shining object out with a small wooden spade and stared at it for a few good moments.
It was an amulet, made made of a polished bronze and gold metal. In its center was a brilliant sapphire stone that caught the light and fractured it into a dozen tiny rainbows.
"Oh, you are beautiful," Tink whispered, staring at an intricate network of microscopic silver gears, wheels, and levers.
She tapped the sapphire. When nothing happened, she carefully nudged one of the tiny gears. It was jammed tight.
"A locked gear," Tink whispered. A wide grin instantly appeared on her face, "Don't you worry, little amulet... I know just how to fix you."
The night flew by in a blur of sparks, oil, and the smell of hot metal.
Tinkerbell sat at her workbench, wearing her magnifying goggles, "Just a little to the left," she whispered to herself.
She used her tweezers to straighten the bent copper spring before cleaning away the grit with a drop of sweet-clover oil, then applied a microscopic drop of heated silver solder to the main axle.
"Click!"
The tiny silver gears suddenly began to turn. The sapphire on the front flared with a soft blue light.
Tink pushed her goggles up onto her forehead, then reached out and took the amulet. It felt warm to the touch.
Turning it over, she noticed a series of tiny symbols engraved along the outer rim of the bronze casing.
Before she could study it further, a bright beam of sunlight pierced through her window.
Morning has arrived.
"Tink! Are you in there?" Fawn’s voice rang in the air, and a moment later, she flew in, closely followed by Rosetta, Iridessa, Silvermist, and Vidia.
"We were supposed to meet at the plum orchard ten minutes ago," Rosetta said, smoothing down her red pedal-skirt.
"And you look like you haven't slept a wink," Iridessa added, hovering closer with a worried frown. "And your hair! Did you get shocked by something again?"
"I’m fine!" Tink said quickly, "Girls, better look at what I found yesterday! I spent the whole night fixing it."
She proudly held up the restored amulet. The girls gathered around.
"Ooh, it’s shiny," Silvermist said, her eyes wide.
"Have to admit, tinker, it’s cleaner than the usual junk you drag home..." Vidia scoffed, crossing her arms.
"It has some kind of writing on it," Tink said, "I can barely make it out. It says..." She squinted, tracing the letters with her finger, "I wish... to... become... a... human."
"A what?" Rosetta blinked.
The moment the words left Tink’s lips, the soft humming of the amulet turned into a loud roar.
A blinding, blue-white flash exploded from the sapphire, filling the teapot workshop with a light so bright, it made everyone shield their eyes with their hands.
A moment later, a bright light vanished and silence fell over the workshop.
"My head..." Tink groaned, rubbing her pounding head.
She tried to stand up, but her shoulders immediately collided with the rafters of her roof.
"What the...?" She thought and tried to turn her head to look, only for it to hit the wall and send another wave of blinding pain.
"Tink?" a tiny, trembling voice squeaked from somewhere near her left knee.
Tinkerbell blinked a few times before slowly looking down.
Sitting on an overturned wooden spool of thread was Fawn. But she wasn't normal-sized. She was... microscopic.
It took Tinkerbell's brain a moment to realize what happened.
"Oh my gosh," Her hands flew to her mouth as she stared at her, now tiny, friend in complete shock, "Oh my gosh!"
She scrambled to get out of the cramped space, taking a grip of the roof, she managed to lift it off its hinges.
Carefully putting it aside, she scrambled out of what used to be her workshop. Collapsing on the ground, she sat for a long, agonizing minute in complete shock.
Slowly, very slowly, she reached behind her back. When her hand met only smooth skin, she twisted around in panic, "Where are my wings?!"
"Tink! Quiet down or you’re going to shake the leaves off the Home Tree!" Vidia's voice yelled somewhere close.
Tink's eyes snapped to where she heard the voice, and she saw her friends hovering near her left shoulder.
From what she could see, their faces pale with absolute terror.
"You're... you're..." Iridessa muttered, pointing a shaking finger. "You're a human!"
"I can see that!" Tink exclaimed, looking down at herself.
What used to be her simple green leaf dress was now a heavy green silk dress that draped beautifully over her body, shimmering in the sunlight.
Her shoes that were made of soft green leather with white dandelion puffs, were now stylish flats, complete with massive, fluffy white pom-poms made of the softest sheep's wool.
Slowly, she reached up and felt her ears. They were still slightly pointed, but otherwise, she looked exactly like a human girl.
"The amulet," Tink whispered, looking down at the amulet on her neck, that was hanging from a golden cord, "These words... they were a spell!"
"Well, un-spell it!" Vidia yelled, flying circles around Tink’s head, "Quick! Before the Queen sees you!"
"How do I un-spell it?!" Tink panicked as she took a hold of the amulet and flipped it over.
The gears were still humining softly, the sapphire was still shining, and the amulet felt warm.
There was nothing there. No words, no hints. Turning the amulet around a few more times, she felt panic start rising again.
"Woah, woah, woah! No panic! Calm down!" Silvermist said, waving her hands, "I'm sure we'll figure something out!"
Tink looked at her, then back at the amulet. She saw the 'I wish to become a human' words and almost instantly the light bulb above her head turned on.
"I wish to become a fairy!" Tinkerbell shouted.
The blinding light returned, and a moment later she was on her hands and knees, normal-sized and feeling the light weight of her wings.
"Oh, thank goodness," she exhaled, collapsing onto the grass, face first.
Her friends landed around her in a flurry of relieved sighs and dramatic collapses.
"Don't ever do that again," Vidia grumbled, rubbing her temples, "My ears are still ringing."
Tinkerbell didn't reply, nor did she try to stand up. She only gave her a thumbs-up.
It was too much for her brain to process. Especially after a sleepless night.
