When did you last send a fax?
This year (2023)
Within the last 5 years (2019-)
Within the last decade (2013-)

I have never sent a fax
What is a fax?
For Throwback Thursday, we’re experiencing the full power of fax with this 1989 pamphlet from MCI Communications Corporation. Incidentally, “It’s there already” remains an excellent slogan for fax.
From Accession 2225, MCI Communications Corporation records, in Hagley’s Manuscripts & Archives collections.
Let's buy fax machines and fax each other
As September 2004 passed, regarding our continued sobriety, I made the following comments in journal entries:
September 29, 2004:
Alcohol related entries included in the 9/29/2004 journal entry:
A grocery receipt is taped to the journal page, but it has faded to blank through the years. It must have shown that no alcohol was purchased that day by me at the grocery store. This is what I wrote in the journal about the receipt: The grocery receipt says a lot by what it says and by what it doesn’t say. (No alcohol included on the receipt)
I love the shift (post quitting alcohol) to walks, juice, water, ice cream, morning coffee. It’s all pretty simple . Easier to find files. More files billed and time documented.
10/1/2004
So, it’s Friday night 7:05pm. Out there somewhere, happy hour is in full swing. I guess We (watch Aaron Brown ( News Anchor on CNN). A female attorney smelled of booze this morning in court.
10/3/2004. 8:52am
Bardo is agitation land. Trying to find self again after so long afield. (Abusing alcohol)
Fax just rang! Was it Ruth Ann? Nope. False alarm. (We had fax wars with Ruth Ann, Jim's cousin. We sent outrageous, funny, political faxes back and forth often She was right wing Republican and we were liberal Democrats.).
So, now what? Early Sunday am. Intense. Just do or don’t! Well—scream. Yelling. Anxt. Now peace.
A talk with Zoe went better than other talks with her. She did ask how we were doing.
Anxt is a small price to pay for “being here”. (Here, I’m struggling with dealing with anxt and not being able to drink it away)
Moving furniture at Hilton was a snap.
In a way now (sober), it’s all so easy.
10/4/2004 Monday 5:31pm
What’s nice now is that we sleep easily through the night and wake up without a debt to pay to yesterday (for drinking too much).
Another store receipt taped in the journal, also, faded to blank through time: The receipt probably did not include any alcohol purchases.
Regarding the receipt, I wrote:
No wine No Advil No Pepcid complete (for stomach irritation caused by over drinking) No brandy No beer No 10% liquor discount for 6 bottles or more No wine carrier Or paper bagged bottles No wine breath Or , embarrassment “ Did Claudia smell it on me?” No lugging my body around. (Due to being hung over) No feigned hunger (forcing myself to eat when Jim worked hard to prepare a meal) (Often over drinking cause mt to have stomach issues and little appetite.)
Now I’m light, easy, breezy.
End of entries
Just in case you arent joking, I have been told that fax machines are apparently the most secure form of long-distance communication. Somehow. I think.
I am absolutely not joking about the fax machine. I use it primarily to send people's hiring stuff to HR so they can make sure I didn't fuck up any I9 forms. Also, stores with new managers used to have to fax 4473 (firearms background check forms) to the help desk to make sure there were no mistakes. So I guess it's for the best that fax machines are so secure, because that's a lot of identity theft material that gets run through them.
(On the other hand, that's also a lot of identity theft material that just chills in my office in hard copy form.)
(On the other other hand, that's a lot of identity theft material that isn't on my computer which is on the sales floor potentially accessible to anyone and everyone, so.)
