related to my last post, the lack of catharis in canon has been bothering me lately bc of my plans for naruto in my sasuke-centric fic. i dont want to whitewash his flaws, but i dont want him to be a hatesink either. and yet i discovered, while outlining and writing, that exploring naruto's flaws actually made him more endearing to me. i hate canon naruto but i love second language naruto who gets to be messy and complicated and emotional. it's cathartic (purifying), reimagining him like this, and it's saddening that he never got to be more than a sanitized male power fantasy in canon

i physically cant ship sasuke/sai bc i have an extremely unsubstantiated headcanon that theyre secretly biological siblings and konoha's been legally abducting uchiha babies without the sharingan gene due to bullshit laws about how uchiha clan = sharingan gene = forced to live in the compound and all the uchiha without the sharingan gene are seized by the village to live outside the compound. and so that's why danzo (or maybe one of the ROOT ninja, i cant remember) canonically referred to sasuke as a sharingan that one time and it's also why sai looks so much like sasuke. danzo thinks he's so hilarious and clever, he definitely would put sasuke's secret, brainwashed brother on team 7 as the replacement as some kind of fucked up power play and anyways im 100% right and nobody can convince me otherwise

wow where do i begin... ok to start with, while i hate that naruto won their chuunin exams fight, i'd keep that part the same. and afterwards, neji would be initially convinced by naruto and hiashi to be more content with his "destiny," partly bc he's young and impressionable, but mostly bc he's very very tired of fighting back all the time. key word: initially. the unchanged cruelty of the main house eventually erodes away his newfound faith in them. he decides to secretly learn fuuinjutsu (along with tenten, who's all for defying the main house), so he can find a way to remove the cursed seal. um idk what happens next, i have a few ideas for how he can get from point A (disillusionment) to point B (freedom), but none of them are complete or concise enough to keep this post short
something about how izuna's death marks the beginning of the end for the uchiha clan, and generations later the only survivor has the same face as him... the idea of sasuke being izuna reborn (in the figurative sense) and izuna's reincarnation being their clan's savior and last hope...
