Sterek Finale Moments

1) They arrive to Beacon Hills together, meaning that they spent however many hours together driving from wherever they met up.

2) Derek steals Stiles’ thunder and gets an eye roll in response, BUT it should be noted that Derek could have said “No, without me”, but he said “No, without us”.

3) After Deucalion dies, Malia says something, then the camera shows Scott’s face and then Scott getting up to approach Derek.  If you look at Stiles when the view widens, he’s looking at Derek.  Derek hasn’t spoken, Stiles hasn’t looked back at Scott yet to see him moving and follow his trajectory, and no one else is looking at Derek yet.  So why was Stiles staring at Derek exactly?

4) We hear Derek and Stiles talk about how they met up.  The details are unclear and you can have whatever theory you like about why that is.  The important part is that no matter what happened when they met up, Stiles was bound and determined to rescue Derek as soon as he knew Derek was in trouble.  This was also something he wanted to do himself since he didn’t tell the rest of the pack about the FBI-Derek situation at all until they arrived back.

5) Lydia is astounded that the FBI let Stiles on a dangerous field op as an intern and Derek says “I’m surprised you didn’t convince them to let you lead the team”.  He doesn’t say “I’m surprised you didn’t try to convince them”; he says “I’m surprised you didn’t convince them”.  Derek Hale believes in Stiles.

6) Stiles saves Derek (and everyone else) from being stone when he defeats the Anuk-Ite.  Derek is the first we see to break free.

7) Stiles and Derek share a look between them when the group is anxious for Scott to heal his eyes.

8) The Jeep and Camaro pull up at the same time from opposite directions as the pack meets up.  There are a lot of close shots going on, so there could well have been some looks getting exchanged off-screen or during unclear reaction shots during the rest of the scene.

FBI Story

There are 3 things about this that I want to point out.

1) Yes, Stiles’ version of the story is assumed to be incorrect because of Derek objecting to it, but that doesn’t mean that Derek’s version is accurate either.  If anything, the exaggerated nature of the way Derek’s story is shown suggests that it isn’t completely accurate either.  

The truth would assumedly fall somewhere in between.  Stiles says that he was limping and that sounds pretty sincere, yet we only see Derek carrying Stiles. This means that more than likely, Stiles’ reaction to getting injured wasn’t as extreme as the one in Derek’s version, supporting the idea that the truth was between the 2 versions.

While we see the flashes of what happened as they give their versions, we don’t actually hear them describe what either of the flashes is showing.  For all we know, the things we’re seeing are from the imagination of anyone else who’s there- Malia, Scott, or Lydia- embellishing the story in their head.  Basically, what we’re seeing doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with the truth of the matter.

2) I highly doubt that Stiles would react that way to getting shot considering how he’s reacted to getting injured in the past.  He’s been beaten to a pulp (by Gerard) and ignored the physical pain in order to focus on emotional pain.  He got up from a car crash, bleeding from the head, and brushed it off to save his family and friends.  He ignored shit-tons of pain as the nogitsune tried to slowly drain his life energy.  He got a huge shard of glass to the chest and didn’t freak out about it, simply asking if someone could take him to the hospital after the battle was done .  

There’s really nothing to suggest that in the middle of a delicate situation- like Derek and the FBI who were hunting him being in the same place- he would react in such an attention-grabbing manner.

3) I can’t remember any other time when Stiles exaggerated in order to make himself look better.  In fact, Stiles has let many of his significant contributions go unsung.  

Any time he has brought up things, they’ve all been accurate.  He corrected Ethan that he’d been the one to save Ethan from dying in the motel and that was accurate, especially since the person Ethan was crediting (Scott) wasn’t even around at the time. Stiles told Scott that he’d called the bad guys multiple times and that he tried to warn them about Matt, and that was also true.  Stiles told Aiden and Ethan that he taught Scott how to control himself, and that was also true.  At no point can I remember Stiles trying to take credit for anything significant that wasn’t actually something he deserved credit for.

This being the case, Stiles altering his story so much that it went from Derek having to carry him out to Stiles supporting Derek out isn’t very consistent.  If my suggestion in point 1 that we’re seeing someone else’s imagination of their stories is true, that would fix the inconsistency.  

All Stiles really says is that he had to save Derek and all Derek really says is that he had to carry Stiles.  Neither of those things is mutually exclusive, so the idea that Stiles saved Derek and then Derek carried Stiles out afterwards because he saw Stiles limping would work just fine.  The two stories are compatible as long as you assume the words are the only things coming from Derek and Stiles and the visuals are from someone else imagining and embellishing the stories.

TLDR;

1) Neither story is the truth.  The truth is in between.

2) The visuals aren’t from Stiles and Derek but from a 3rd party hearing them talk and embellishing on it in his/her imagination.  Stiles has never reacted to being injured in an over-the-top manner before, so that supports the idea that the visual from Derek’s story isn’t reality.

3) Stiles has never exaggerated in that manner to make himself look good before, so that makes it even more unlikely that he’s telling an outright lie about what happened.
