I was a member of Audible for one month shy of ten years. Over the years I paid my monthly dues, bought additional credits, purchashed individual books, and recommended the service to one & all, most likely handing over bucketloads of money to them.
I was quite happy to do so until their wishy washy response to the recent action to end gender-based hate speech on Facebook.
Here's the letter I sent over the weekend:
Date: Sun, 26 May 2013 15:43:59 GMT
Subject: Audible ads on Facebook.
Question: As a long time member (I think it's been almost 10 years), I'm very disappointed to see that Audible has decided to continue buying ads on Facebook:

You say that you do not condone or endorse violence against women, but in buying ads on Facebook, you're supporting a community that accepts and normalizes rape and domestic violence against women and girls.
Please rethink your support of Facebook.
Best,
Heather
Though the campaign has ended as Facebook has announced they will review their policies, Audible's response (or lack thereof) has left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm no longer comfortable supporting them when they supported a community that accepted and normalized rape and domestic violence against women and girls. As consumers, we can only vote with our $$ and I'll be buying my audio books elsewhere.
I'm still waiting for a response to my letter.
