There’s a quote I love (I had to look it up because I wanted to make sure I got the wording right and it’s attributed to Tolstoy): 

Just as one candle lights another and can light thousands of other candles, so one heart illuminates another heart and can illuminate thousands of other hearts.

I can’t remember when I first read it, it was probably at some point in high-school, but it stayed with me as such a beautiful idea, as something I hoped to consistently aspire towards, because I believe it to be true, that as one flame can carry over to another little flame and thus increase the sum total of light in the whole universe, so too can we affect one another’s hearts and souls. 

@featheredgrace I’ve been saving this since you sent it (partially because I wanted to cherish it for a while and was, as my Grandma Dell would have said, verklempt), and I wish I could explain more articulately what a healing message it was for me to read, maybe even especially in the wake of last year and standing with a mix of anxious thought and tenuous hope for the beginning of a new one. That hope only continues to exist, at least for me, because of words like this and people like you. We have to keep reminding one another of the things worth remembering and worth fighting for, of the things worth loving and living for, of the light we have the capacity to shine and give to others, no matter how small and flickering it may sometimes seem. That it glimmers through the darkness is enough.

Thank you for this, dearheart, and for giving me those things to remember too, and for being a starry beacon yourself. (We’ll be glowing in the dark.) ♥ ♥ ♥

3: First book that had a major influence on you

Hmm, the first book I remember having a big influence on me was A Wrinkle In Time. It was the first book I found important enough to me to actually underline sections of it. I’ve read it probably somewhere close to 100 times.

8: Why are you reading the book you're currently reading?

I am reading First Lord’s Fury because Aley is a JERK and lent me the first book in the Codex Alera series. Now I’m on the last one and it’s sTILL SO GOOD.

12: Tell one book story or memory (what you were wearing when you were reading something, someone saw you cry in public, you threw a book across the room and broke a window, etc.)

Well, I’ve never thrown a book across the room and broken a window. I do very vividly remember reading this book called Nightmare Academy by Frank Peretti, though. I was sitting in my living room in the la-z-boy chair and I was SO TENSE I was like, clutching the armrest, my eyes were wide because it scared me so much, but I couldn’t stop reading. I remember my mom stopping in her tracks and staring at my reactions, haha.

36: Unpopular opinions

I don’t like Margaret Atwood. I tried reading The Handmaiden’s Tale and only made it to page like, 36 before I got bored. I got halfway through Oryx and Crake before I realized that I didn’t care about the story or the characters at all. Her writing just does not appeal to me in the least.

customers can be the absolute worst sometimes :( *hugs you*

i don’t understand though, i was having an okay shift, i didn’t have any problems with anybody, dealt with other rude customers just fine until her. i’ve been putting up with this stuff for eight years. my job IS dealing with pissed off/angry/full-of-shit customers. 

but i still just snapped.

First vacation: First I remember was going to the Ryan Hotel in Killarney when I was 4. First time abroad was to Carnac, France at 5.

Sex on first date: Uh, well most of my relationships tend to evolve so naturally and spontaneously that they don’t usually involve any specific ‘dates’. But yeah I usually have sex with them pretty early on.

Cried when someone died: Oh god yes. And still cry when I think of it really.

Fallen for a friend: Kind of in the process of it yeah.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN

Yourself: Constantly aiming to yes. 

Miracles: I believe in big coincidences that often seem like miracles.

Love at first sight: Not as such no, but I do believe in (and have experienced) knowing almost immediately that you’re going to develop strong feelings for someone.

Heaven: I was brought up Catholic, and even though I now consider myself agnostic, there are certain aspects of Catholicism that I’m reluctant to give up, especially having lost a close family member last year. To be honest though, I’m not sure what scares me more; heaven being real and therefore eternal existence being a thing, or it not being real and death being the complete end.

Santa Claus: of course!

Kiss on the first date: If the date is going well and you’re both into it then yeah def!

Angels: Again with the Catholicism thing. I don’t really, but the thought of having a Guardian Angel used to be a huge comfort to me as a kid and sometimes I miss that feeling.
