Akechi’s favourite Featherman series is Phoenix Ranger Featherman Victory (starring Yukari Takeba) and I can Prove It.
(this isn’t just because i think akechi gets gender envy from yukari i’m being legit here)
OK SO we all know that Akechi’s Robin Hood Metaverse outfit is Featherman inspired, right? Well, dear friend, what if I told you that it is SPECIFICALLY inspired by the Featherman V costumes?
The collar of Akechi’s costume bears a wing emblem because Akechi is a massive nerd for Featherman. We can all agree on this.
The costumes for Featherman V (starring the one and only Yukari Takeba)?
ALSO have a wing emblem on their collars, granted in lower quality because this is all from arena ultimax and. well. yeah. arena ultimax.
However, the in-game Featherman skins have no such emblem- their collars are completely clean.
Now, you might be thinking that those skins are only from one generation- most likely Neo Featherman (the running series in P4)- so maybe the wings appear on another generatio-
WRONG. The Featherman R figurines in P3R also have no wing emblem. This is not a consistent part of the Featherman costume design.
While we only have visuals for the masks from the original Phoenix Ranger Featherman series, we can reasonably assume that there was no collar emblem then either since it’s unlikely to be omitted from both Featherman R and Neo but included in Victory.
Additionally, the series running in P5 is Neo Featherman Again which is actually a crossover between different versions of the series, including Victory. It would defeat the purpose of the crossover (cough nostalgia bait) to change the costume designs and with no new characters, Featherman V remains the only series with this particular design quirk.
AND I’M NOT EVEN DONE because Akechi’s cape also matches up with Featherman V and no other series!!
While the in-game Neo Featherman skins have capes, only the Featherman V characters have this exact kind of pointed cape separated down the middle. While it’s possible that the OG series also had these capes since we don’t have a visual, it would once again be unusual for only Featherman V to call back to it and no other series. The Featherman R figurines don’t even have capes, and neither do Futaba’s Neo Featherman figures. We can safely infer that this style is exclusive to Featherman V.
THEREFORE, the only reason for Akechi’s nerdy outfit to incorporate that winged collar and pointed cape is if Akechi has impeccable taste and favours Phoenix Ranger Featherman Victory over all other versions of the series. checkmate liberals.
