Febuwhump and Faebruary/Februfairy 2022, Day 16: "Does that hurt?” | Mischief
Kallie was in bed with a sword wound.
A freakin' sword wound. A magical freakin' sword wound. The hell was her life becoming?
Of course, she hadn't told her parents the truth. They thought she had fallen on some broken scrap metal. So now she was in her room, her wound bandaged, having to deal with something even more painful than getting stabbed by a fairy.
The fairy who lived with her.
"Does this hurt?" Puck asked innocently, poking at her bandages.
"No."
"Oh." He quirked his head, then poked her again. "Does that hurt?"
"Go away."
"Does that—"
She managed to grab his hand before he could poke her again. "Keep doing that, and something will hurt. You."
He easily managed to slip his wrist from her grasp and floated backwards, chuckling. She glared.
Suddenly, a spasm of pain went through her arm. She hissed in pain and grabbed the wound.
"What the hell?! I didn't even move it."
"Well, you were hurt with a fairy sword," Puck said conversationally, now floating above her bed in a reclining position. "It's might be a curse setting in."
Kallie sat up, grimacing with pain. "Curse?"
"Uh-huh. It might not heal. In fact, the damage could start spreading throughout your body, rotting away your flesh...quite messy, glad that I won't have to clean it up."
If Kallie hadn't been on the verge of panic, she might have noted the "might, could" that Puck was using to get around the "fairies can't lie" rule.
"Well, how do I fix it?!"
"Hmm. Let me see."
She held up her arm. Puck flew down, deftly unwrapped the bandages, then gazed at the wound, looking uncharacteristically solemn.
"Does...that hurt?" he said, and jabbed his finger painfully on the cut.
"AGH!" Kallie snatched her arm back. "You little—!"
But she didn't finish, because then, in a matter of seconds, the pain receded. She blinked, looked at her arm, and saw that the skin was crackling with green sparks; when they had dissipated, her cut was mended. It wasn't completely healed, but now it looked a few days old and no longer ached.
Still, though, her response to Puck's giggle was a glare rather than gratitude.
