A bit random but I saw your post re:Lützerath and saying your local forest occupation failed. I obviously have no way of knowing if your local forest is the same as mine that’s about to be cut down to make way for a new stretch of highway (it’s in a city starting with F and a part of said city starting with F also) but I commiserate. It sucks, it really fucking sucks. I don’t know how to go on sometimes when another patch of forest is cut down and replaced by roads and parking lots. I think I could handle it if I believed that we’ll win the long game, but who even knows. The thing is that we have to keep living and acting like we know we’ll win. It’s the only chance we got.
I'm very sorry. Please don't feel like the occupation failed. Every time we resist, we force people in charge to make a moral decision, and every time they decide to evict people with police violence and cut down the trees, new people get radicalized. We have to keep resisting until we're so many that they can't push us around anymore.
Every time someone holds out in a tree house for a few days, it gives people time to come to the woods and witness what's happening. It gives news outlets time to send people and record what's happening. Every time people see a tree getting cut down, a fraction of them gets angrier. With my local forest occupation, my father called at the second day to ask if I was alright, because he saw it in the news. And he was angry. He's a 60 year old academic and he's voted SPD his whole life, but by now he's angry. When I ask him to do things to help, he does.
Still, I also sometimes feel like we can't win the long game. But even if we don't ... We're building communities on the way. Even if we can't stop the collapse of or current standard of living and parts of the earth drown and burn, we'll have groups of people who know how to live self sufficiently. We know how to organize without a state, we know how to share skills, we know how to look out for each other.
If our current society fails, it'll be catastrophic, I'm not gonna lie to you. But the people who make it through will build something better on the ruins of the old.
They tried to burry us, but they didn't know we were seeds.
That said: If you need to talk, feel free to slide into my dms.
