Carlos is like Federer unfortunately, their injuries get downplayed compared to their rivals because they are/were more likely to tough it out. (He's also like Federer in that people think they are both lazy bums who don't practice but that's another story). Just look at how people talk about his match against Fognini at Wimbledon last year as just Carlos being a bozo even though it was the exact same circumstances as Jannik against baby Cerundolo at RG in that it was incredibly hot (in fact it was even worse at Wimbledon with someone in the crowd actually collapsing) & both players were fatigued from playing a lot of matches in the run up. Yes, sometimes Carlos is a bozo but in that case it was clearly physical (even if it didn't affect him as dramatically and he was able to pull through unlike Jannik).
carlos is fedson in many ways. but yes, i'm not gonna lie, all through the fognini match i was very nervy because he was just...bozoing lmaooo. really proud of him for even making it to the finals of that tournament because as you said he was winning everything and what he didn't win, he was still making it to the finals. insane season last year.
