We've just annouced Campfire Fest and the mod team is already planning the summer event! Time sure does fly.

The thing is, we've got two really exciting options and only one summer to host an event. So, it's time for an early poll. Descriptions of each event are below the cut.

Would you rather participate in a Fan Zine or a Remix this summer?

Fan Zine: The last time the fandom had a fan zine was way back in 2022. It was called the Traveler's Encore Zine and can be checked out through the link. Of course, that was long before the first Campfire Fest, meaning this blog and its participant base hasn't made one!

Outer Wilds Events' Fanzine would be an Outer Wilds Field Guide, showcasing the beautiful environment and history of the game. Participants will sign up to submit a fan art, fan fic, or fan analysis on the game. We would highly encourage participants to collaborate with each other during this event for a more cohesive zine. Once everything is submitted, the mod team will put it together in a nice little zine that will be downloadable and printable!

Remix: The fandom has never had a Remix before. This is an interactive event that has every participant submitting two fan works by the end of it.

The event is split into two rounds. The first half of the event will have each participant making a fan work. It can be fan art, fan fic, fan music or anything else you can imagine. All participants will submit their finished works in the submissions channel in the Discord Server and claims will begin.

In the second half, each participant will claim a fan work to "remix" into their own thing. This could be writing a fic to go with a particularly inspiring art work, extending a scene in someone else's fic, or drawing a scene in a different color palette from the original!

Art style concerns

I've recently been told I should revise this style to make the characters' chests less defined. Unfortunately, I failed to get direct feedback on this until after weeks of work (these characters are designed modularly, so pretty much every character has a variation of this body). I'm not sure that it's worth the time to make changes this far into the process (especially since I'm trying to finish the game quickly), but I also understand that I cannot be the sole voice determining the needs of the game.

What do you think?

Leave it as-is; you've already committed, and it's not that bad.

Shift the portraits down in-game, so we only see them from the shoulders up.

Revise. It's worth it. It will be too off-putting or distracting, otherwise.

Some of you are probably wondering what any of these are. You'll find short explanations below the cut.

Remix

In a fan remix artists and writers who sign up create a fan work. Then after the initial creation period for the first work, everyone signs up for a work to remix or recreate with their own twist! Original works and remixes will be posted together at the end of the event. Who Made That?

Everyone will sign up and make an art or write a fic that fits the prompt provided by the mod team for the event. Each work will be posted as a poll with a list of participating fan artists or writers who may have made the fan work. Everyone votes on who they think made it.

Flash Fic/Art Challenge

This one is very similar to Campfire Fest but with much shorter creation periods. Mods will announce a prompt and everyone will have a few days at most to create fan works for the prompt. Responses will be posted at the end of the creation period. The next day Mods will post the next prompt.

Fan Zine

A fanzine is a non-professional and non-official publication produced by fans of a particular media for the pleasure of others who share their interest. Participants would make articles, art, stories, recipes or anything else they might have to offer for the publication. Once it was completed the mod team would post it for everyone to enjoy.

History and Science Fair

We're going to be honest, the mods made this one up on our own. It's pretty simple, when the event is announced people will sign up with a topic they would like to do a "science fair project" on relating to the science or lore found in the game. When Submissions open you present your project by posting your "findings" to the blog.

As has been mentioned before the mods are looking to host four events a year. We really like Campfire Fest and the Quantum Entanglement Exchange for consistencies sake, but we're thinking a little more variety in the Summer and Fall might be good too. The three of us have a few potential events in mind, but what about you?

As you may (or may not) know, all event information was in our Wiki! We did this to make sure that the rules were always consistently the same and not an older version. However, The Mod Team thinks doing it this way may have meant some of you didn’t see them much, or at all.

So, how would you prefer to see the FAQ/Rules shared?

Post the Rules/FAQ on Tumblr/Discord where reposting may create inaccuracies.

Keep the Rules/FAQ on the Wiki where they may be lost/forgotten.

We're delighted to announce that this year Campfire Fest will be a spring event! That's because the new summer event will run the entire summer (exact dates to be determined).

Speaking of exact dates, which week in March will you be most able to participate in Campfire Fest?

First week of March (2-8)

Second week of March (9-15)

Third week of March (16-22)

Fourth week of March (23-29)

Any week in March works for me!
