We all mutually agree that TPOT 19 was a certified “what the fuck.” moment, right-? (Spoilers/yap sesh below)
The episode was definitely enjoyable. Fans weren’t too much of a fan of TPOT 18 as far as I’ve seen, and it’s clear that TPOT 19 made up for the lack of (for lack of better term,) ‘holy shit that’s peak’. It shows a lot of characters in terms of how they’ve grown, overall making their changes more obvious and definitely interesting.
Four clearly knows something about One, and it’s safe to theorize at this point that Four could be the reason One hadn’t been around for so long. I think we forget sometimes that Four is a character outside of comedy and jokes in TPOT, and can’t think of a better way TPOT could’ve shined the light on them. Their reaction to realizing One’s back, giving every contestant a bit of power so they can help, and the scraps of interaction we got when Two vented to them. Honestly, even if Four wasn’t the main focus of the episode, it’s still great to see a character written so well.
Grassy being the last one standing honestly surprised me, especially considering the fact that he probably felt REALLY alone after Snowball’s elimination. But PENCIL??? WHAT THE FUCK??? She’s so well written imo, not only with her growing power hungry, but also so desperate to avoid elimination to the point that she’d kill everyone? Ik it’s not really that big of a deal in the world of BFDI, but there’s more contestants who are against murder than for it (Death PACT being a prime example of this).
We also get more insight on One’s goals outside of getting more power. Seeing her talk to Pencil, you can easily make out the parallels, even without proper context. One wants to change things, just like Pencil does. Like Pencil tried to in episode 15. Maybe One wanted that, too. Either way, it’s still very interesting.
Another thing I’d like to point out is the parallel of Grassy and Ruby’s crying. Back in BFDIA, Pencil felt guilt, but still ended up yelling over and over again, even after Ruby started crying. With Grassy, she recognized her mistake the first time it happened (in theory), and instead helped Grassy. I’m not saying that was a sign she’s becoming a better person, because I genuinely think her time in the EXIT drove her mad.. I just mean to imply that even after everything, Pencil’s a ‘person’ too, and after all those years, still maintains some of those qualities that make her a person, like empathy and passion, but also fear, envy, anger, all that good stuff.
Overall, TPOT 19 was absolutely amazing. Beautifully written, definitely one of my favorite Object Show episodes in terms of storytelling and character development. The level of detail and depth of every single scene— I genuinely had to set my phone down and sit in silence for a moment, because I couldn’t process just how absurdly amazing the episode was.
