Last Song: Got to Give it Up Part 1 by Marvin Gaye, doing double duty of being on the Practical Magic soundtrack and also having the grooviest vibes. So I can use it to vibe on the current fic and the secret next one.

Currently watching: Call the Midwife, actually. This was one of the first shows my husband and I ever started watching together. It has a bunch of seasons, so we left off in Season 5 a few years ago. Now it’s fun because he’s had all his maternity training in nursing school and he can kinda fact check it as it’s happening.

Last TV Show: Inventing Anna, though only by a technicality, strangely. Hubby and I had a hard time with all the horrible rich people so we took a break right before the last episode to “just see” about Our Flag Means Death, binged that whole show, and then had to come back to Inventing Anna like “alright, let’s finish this with honor.”

Currently reading: In print, Frankenstein. I have read it four times already but my besties and I are on a classics run in book club. In fic, Time is On My Side by @wrylywriting !

1- See the northern lights! I’ve been in the arctic circle but it was during summer. So I got to see the midnight sun but still gotta get the lights.

2-Self or traditionally publish something in hard cover. Poetry, fiction, doesn’t matter.

3-Wake up in the house my husband wants to build us, go downstairs and make coffee in the quiet morning, grab a sun hat, go outside into a thriving garden, water my beautiful tomatoes, and spot one of my cats rolling in a patch of catnip.

unforch u are gonna have to hear about my current obsession (wrestling rpf) because it's literally the only thing i ever wanna talk about (unless it's me Looking Respectfully at the racecar men but that's another post).

me and @longnationalnightmare went absolutely apeshit one night thinking about an au where jim and dustin were dating/got married real young. they were both lil baby trash indie wrestlers and were making shit and didn't care. full "we can live on love alone" status and getting the shit kicked out of them up and down the east coast. and then, i don't know. shit got hard. jim's career started kinda taking off. dustin's wasn't, and then dustin got hurt. it wouldn't have made a difference—shouldn't have made a difference—but dustin got mean about it, drinking too much, depressed as shit. who knows what was the thing that made it tip over from miserable to unbearable but something did, and jim gave up. he was right to—they were just fucking hurting each other and it wasn't gonna stop.

but then jim ended up dating some guy—we'll call him josh. josh isn't a wrestler. josh is an accountant. or a risk analyst. or an optometrist. who cares. he thinks jim's wrestling career is funny. he doesn't mean to be condescending about it—it's not like he doesn't come to matches when he can. he hoots and hollers with the best of them. just, sometimes it's kind of annoying when he talks about how jim could always go back to architecture any time he wanted. jim knows josh loves him. knows jim's schedule is hard on him, and is grateful josh is so nice about it. and then one night at dinner with all of josh and jim's nice friends, josh gets down on one knee and asks the question. of COURSE jim says yes, like what else is he even gonna say? but his mind is racing with something like panic, and a few days later he apologizes, says he's just gotten last minute booked in california—he'll be back as soon as he can. josh kisses him on the head, says no problem, takes him to the airport where jim buys a flight down south instead.

u know the deal now. jim rents a car, drives out to murray, goes looking for dustin. he left dustin in BAD shape, tbh, so he's pretty much expecting to find him in some dive bar, playing darts, trashtalking people who absolutely would punch him, doing shots with anyone who would buy them.

instead, dustin's mom hugs him, yells at him for not calling, and gives him directions to find dustin with a little unreadable look on her face. he's like "cool, whatever" and so is entirely emotionally unprepared to pull up to a newish looking building with a fresh sign advertising Big Cat Wrestling School. jim lets himself in, hesitantly, looking around. it's a big place, clean, equipment stacked everywhere. there's a group of teens in the ring, practicing chops on each other and laughing. there's a frazzled looking twenty-something trying to help another cluster of nine-year-olds practicing somersaults on the mats. jim edges back against the wall, and looks around, brain completely blanked out.

"dustin!" one of the kids shrieks suddenly, and peels off from the group, tackles dustin as he comes in the front door. dustin lifts him up, and powerslams him into the mat while he dissolves in giggles. "get to work, squirt," he says, and keeps going.

"dustin" someone else says, and dustin says "later kevin, i really gotta do payroll if you idiots want beer money," and the guy goes "no, i mean--" and points to jim.

"oh," dustin says, blinking at him. "huh." he doesn't look happy exactly. jim doesn't know how to read his face. dustin takes him to the back, into nice-sized office with his name on the plaque outside. jim wanders around, touches stuff on the shelves, looks at the photos. "you own this place?" he says, finally.

"yeah," dustin says. "well, the bank owns a lot of it but i get to sign the checks."

"good—" jim says. "good, that's—really good. i just—when i left—i didn't know you wanted this."

"well," dustin says, kind of flatly. "we stopped talking much at the end." jim doesn't have anything to say to that, touches one finger to a framed picture of dustin at the bottom of a pile of something like 20 beaming kids. "so what brings you here?" dustin says, after a beat.

"oh," jim says, and then he nervously twists the silver band on his finger. "i uh—got engaged last weekend."

"oh yeah?" dustin says, face unreadable. "congratulations. i guess you came down to get that divorce you wanted."

"yeah," jim says. "i brought the papers." the ones you sent back three times, he doesn't say.

"that was nice of you," dustin says. "i'm still not signing shit. it was good seeing you though. say hi to your sisters for me."

jim glares at him. dustin grins.

Hey!! I was actually thinking about sending you an update but I didn't want to be weird? But she is super great! We came home from the hospital in September after three months in the NICU, and she's just been growing amazingly ever since. Her actual age is 7 months but her adjusted age is 4 months and she's perfectly on track for your average 4 month old baby. She's at or above all of her targets, and her speech is at 6 months! She's a babbler for sure. Thank you for asking!

I just want it on record here that I singlehandedly introduced Divergent to @lolableu - and she went on to become the most epic of all Tris/Tobias writers in the whole world - poets laud her name in that fandom even still.

And then - (after totally successfully influencing the beautiful @ohhyellowbird) have now convinced the great and lovely and wonderful ScarletWoman (@feelavalanche) to watch and love Riverdale. 

I feel like I’ve won the internet today.
