It’s Bart’s fault that they tumbled onto the floor. He got excited, threw his arms around Dick and had enough force behind him to cause both boys to topple over. He’s all bright smiles and twinkling eyes, excited chattering about only God knows what. His hair’s gotten longer again, it hangs in Dick’s face and tickles his nose. Bart’s still chattering, going on and on and on until he finally stops and grins down at Dick.

   ”Hi,” He finally manages after taking a breath, then casually leans down to give the other boy a light kiss.

Dick couldn’t be sure what Jason wanted to talk about —- it could be a number of things. Even so, it could be nothing. Despite the uneasy feeling in the pit of his stomach telling him otherwise, Dick remained hopeful. Maybe Jason wanted to catch up. He’d find out soon enough.

         She supposed, as far as days designated for the selection of children to be slaughtered, this one could have been worse. It was sunny, too sunny for her liking if she was being honest. The shafts of light reflected from the scraps of metal making up the Seam's rooves slamming into her eyes, forcing their way inside, blinding her to her surroundings. Although it wasn't like there was much to look at, the ground grey and dry, matching the faces of everyone following like swarms around her, young and old. The young, because they had  s o  much to lose. The old, because they had even more.

         Her eyes searched the crowd, although for what she wasn't quite able to admit to herself. It was, after all, the last year her sis-- Jade would be submitted. How many entries she had, Artemis had no idea, because she'd certainly never tried to get extra supplies for them. She doubted her sister cared much whether Artemis had been starving, and Artemis herself didn't care whether her sister lived or died, in the arena or out of it. Or at least she tried not to. All she could do was count her lucky stars their 'dad' had left to become some peace keepers somewhere else, anywhere else, leaving Artemis to her own devices.

          Devices that let her breathe without feeling her lungs clogging up with coal dust as they did in the seam. Air that let her eyes stop watering with the coating of ash constantly clinging to her skin, and air that let her feel as if possibly she might just float away. But she was never as childish as to think she could run away. She may spend her days breaking the law, but she'd never been stupid. She provided for herself, took care of herself, used the skills her father had beaten into her brain for herself. All the same, she could never quite forget the ice in his voice or the feeling he gave her, like she was the worst thing she could possibly be in the world, every time she pressed her finger to the string of her weapon.

         The huge screens showing the event of the reaping to every citizen of Panem allowed Artemis the luxury of shade once she'd entered the square. She'd been ushered to the faction of fifteen year old girls, but stood away from them, her worn green dress making her part of the background, the same as her dark seam skin. Her hair, tied back as best she could, did nothing to distinguish her, nothing to make her seem even slightly similar to the bright yellows of the woman standing on the stage just barely in Artemis's field of vision. A woman of the Capitol.

        And that's when the creatures inside her stomach force themselves into knots and her throat is constricted in such away that all she could feel was the grain of coal and all she could taste was ash. As a cold wind, or perhaps just the feeling of the crowd, swept over her chilling her to her bones, she thought, with a sardonic humour, it was as if she was already dead.

Who would be the big spoon?

lmao Dick more than likely! Until Bart got all big and filled out—then Bart would be more inclined to try being a big spoon n v n When they’re both big adult losers they probably just switch constantly. But with smaller Bart, Dick is definitely the big spoon. And Bart’s a serious cuddler c:

Who would wake up first?

Bart stays up late with his games and all, so I think Dick might actually be the early riser out of the two of them. When Bart does manage to sleep, it’s usually pretty heavy—he only beats out Dick’s wake up time when Bart wakes up having to pee or smth. They probably like to cuddle in the mornings too. Slow slow slow mornings when Dick basically has to cuddle Bart into consciousness and bribe him with food and kisses. And Bart would wake up laughing and snuggling him to death tbh.

Do they have nicknames for each other?

Stupid ones awweee yeah. Bart’s for him would be Dickie, and babe, and bad bird, and he’s sing Carry on my Wayward son constantly to woo Dick and occasionally pretty bird, and Dick idk UMM. Maybe sunflower, and in return, Bart always will call Dick Tulip. also wang and butt

What happened when they met each other’s parents?

Bart’s parents/family were probably really inviting and Bart told them told them told them to be nice and make Dick feel comfortable and “Don’t be weird because you do this thing—-” and despite all his worry and fidgeting, they had a good time and ate dinner and Bart only threw one piece of corn at his dad the whole time. And Bart was probably really stiff when going to Dick’s place and tried really hard to look his best, and Dick probably laughed because he looked so uncomfortable—so they excused themselves and Dick fixed him up in the bathroom and told Bart to never ever slick his hair back again.

How do they apologize after an argument?

Depends on the level of fight. When it’s something small, Bart tends to try and use physical contact. Something really simple like holding Dick’s hand or pulling him into a hug or playing with his fingers while giving a little, quiet ‘sorry’. Dick gets Bart take-out of his favorite foods and they hug it out. And the higher levels idk maybe flowers. Bart gets Dick red tulips and Dick would get Bart sunflowers.

What would they be like as parents?

Ridiculously doting and loving and Bart would love to pick up his babies and kiss them lots and there would be so much kisses and so much mess from art and scribbles and food and giggling babus and—they’d b ridic omg

Who is the better cook?

Dick! Bart isn’t the best cook. He can make eggs and cereal and some other stuff, but usually the kitchen can’t stay clean with Bart in it.

Who is more romantic?

Mm.. Maybe both tbh. Dates and meet the parents and visiting the planetarium, and holding hands and kissus and exchanging dumb presents. 

What sort of gifts do they get for each other?

Food, flowers—Bart likes to get Dick stuff with birds on it all the time and Dick gets Bart star covered stuff n v n

Who gets jealous easiest?

Probably Bart ajdjkdf. He feels like Dick’s totally out of his class and doesn’t think 

Who gets more excited for events e.g.. Birthdays, Christmas?

Bart more than likely makes a bigger deal about it. He’ll be geared up about stuff like that a week in advance and do countdowns for Dick all the time and he’d try to go all out every single time. Esp birthdays though. Birthdays are when he can sing the birthday song all day long. Sing it loudly in the morning and try different tunes throughout the day, and when it’s time for bed, he’ll sing it quietly like a lullaby and fall asleep to it yk.

Who is the most adventurous?

I think they both are? But they’re careful about it unless they’re in a mood probably.

Who is the most protective?

Both are pretty insanely protective. SUPAH FIERCE.

What would they have been like as childhood sweethearts?

Probably a lot of Bart following after Dick and getting into trouble and Dick trying to take care of him and show him all the cool stuff that doens’t involve him getting hurt most of the time. And Bart was always an affectionate kid, so kisses happened and nose kisses and Bart always hugged Dick really tight, and most of the time, they were on that extened-but-rlly-ok family level where they saw each other as brothers, but if one day one of them gets that feeling of ‘i think i actually like them’—and the affectionate touches wouldn’t change—maybe they get shyer about it until one decides to tell and then they’re super mushy and dumb?? and fights happen, but with bart being pretty blunt, they never are super huge fights, and they’re—-just cute and dumb ok
