Have I told you that we built our island using a previously rescued and treasured sideboard as the anchor piece? .😀 . I had a sentimental attachment to this piece and decided using it as our island would be a way I could justify keeping it for our new home. Here you can see where the original piece joins the rest of the island. . . This was probably the scariest DIY project we’ve done. First, we had to build it inside my brothers garage. We could not actually attach all the pieces until the house was finished. . . The island is 6’ x 7’ and we couldn’t transport it all together. So we brought it over in pieces and assembled it inside the house. . . Fortunately, we loved the results! I’m so happy with our distressing technique that resulted in these new boards appearing to be old barn wood. . . The uniqueness of our island adds so much character to our home. It’s where all our friends and family gather when they visit. . . Here’s to taking an idea and making it a reality. 🥂 Even if you’re not sure of the outcome. 😜. . . It seems like fall is flying by however, I’m still loving my pumpkins for Thanksgiving 🦃🦃. I had a lot of questions about my blue pumpkins so I thought I’d share how I painted them. I purchased cheap plastic pumpkins and used Duck Egg Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan from @vintagecottage150 to paint them. I also painted the white ones with Old White Chalk Paint. I like the chalky look versus a shiny finish that these Dollar Tree pumpkins had. I like to keep several basic colors on hand to create a finish that I’m happy with.
