                    "that was... powers going wrong." she's seen the way magnus keeps glancing at the gigantic venus flytrap at the back of her greenhouse. it's closed, for the moment, having caught a nice, fat mouse just twenty minutes prior. they're currently busy taking care of the most delicate flowers she has, a gold of kinabalu orchid that took years to fully bloom. "i've been a little bit too enthusiastic and now it's gigantic. i'm happy with it, though." there was a smear of dirt on her chin, and another across her nose. "careful with that water spray."

“Oh, very funny.” Katie returns just as easily, but even as she rolls her eyes a little at the friendly jab, it’s hardly malicious. “And very original, Magnus. I’ve never heard that one before.”

Outside where the floor feels as if a forest’s spring grass, and beyond familiar cabin's oak tree centerpiece, the joke of Katie being among the shortest of the Head Counselors is all too familiar to her. Once upon a time, the ‘Shortest Head Counselor’ award would have gone to Michael Yew, and he would grumble and curse about how at least Katie was above five feet as she tried to reassure at least he wasn’t alone in that. Hugging her sibling tighter, Katie can't help the way she worries, as a mother might do when sending a child away to school for the first time.

“You know, saying ‘you don’t need to worry’ is usually what makes people worry even more, right?”

Katie knows that she can’t protect all of her siblings, even if she wants to. Some stay at camp year-round; some venture beyond the magical border to live with mortal guardians, then have to go to school and face challenges there. With the thought of monsters stalking demigods and demigoddesses and her siblings, as well as prophecies and potentially fatal quests, telling her to simply stop worrying, is truly not that simple.

“If you need anything, send me an Iris Message. Dad’s … well, he understands how the IMs work and that a drachma is needed, and now that I think about it, I … I’m not really sure he’s ever used it. I mean, Percy said that his mom has talked with him through an IM, before...” she shrugs, some, as if not too concerned with that, before finally giving a smile of her own. “Anyway. Tell your mom that I said ‘hey’, okay?”

piper definitely likes alternative stuff, both current and older (mid-2000s), as well as some edm, rap, and classic rock.  i don’t think she’s super particular about what she listens to, but if she had to choose it would be something from that selection.  the only thing she’s not super fond of is the top pop hits mostly because she wants a little more depth.  this girl loves paramore and kendrick lamar.
