Christian Century spectacular reviews, from Beverly Gaventa, Take and Read
Featured this month were reviews of Richard Bauckham's latest, Living with Other Creatures: Green Exegesis and Theology, as well as the celebrated God of the Living: A Biblical Theology by noted scholars Reinhard Feldmeier and Hermann Spieckermann.
In her column, Take & Read, for The Christian Century, Gaventa wrote the following:
Of Living with Other Creatures:
Ranging from Genesis 1 to the book of Revelation, Bauckham situates human dominion over the rest of creation within a broad biblical tradition that places humanity in the “community of creation” and emphasizes human participation in the worship that all creation offers to God. Bauckham has been attending to these issues for several decades, and his mature reflection has resulted in a book that is exegetically and theologically rewarding.
Of God of the Living:
The straightforward title of this volume directly communicates what the subject matter is, but it cannot convey its extraordinary character. Feldmeier and Spieckermann, specialists in New and Old Testament respectively, together undertake an exploration of the nature and character of God that ranges across the canon. The result is no mere catalogue of texts and themes but a bold and often beautiful exposition of the God who lives and who brings life into being.
