This is why Nina originally went to the couple that were unsuitable. I did research cat care, but I assume the stupidest things. And I can't give her the care she deserves if she gets ill. Her insurance - aside from road accidents - is the last insurance I haven't cancelled, and I can barely pay that.

I'm going to continue being short with people asking me health related cat questions until I stop getting them. 🤷
If there is something, anything, physically wrong with your cat, call your veterinarian immediately.
I know money is a big issue for some people. But your cat's health will not be dictated by the amount of money you have. They can and will get sick regardless of your income.

Upcoming Vet Visit
I noticed earlier this week that Simcoe has been eliminating less than usual. After a few meals, as well, she has regurgitated her food, or simply vomited some time after her meal. Now occasional vomiting without any other symptoms can be normal, depending on the cat, but Simcoe has also stopped eating. The last full meal she ate was on Friday, and she’s normally a VERY good eater.
I’ve tried several variants of food, even going so far as to offer her freeze dried meat meal supplements that she absolutely loves. She turned her nose up at them and even began playing with them. She’s not lethargic, and after touching her and picking her up, she hasn’t responded in a way that would indicate pain, but either way, I am worried, and I made a vet appointment for Simcoe. Their earliest appointment was for tomorrow morning. Luckily we have an emergency vet nearby in case she takes a sudden turn for the worse.
I’m very worried, but then again I worry a lot. It’s possible that when I trimmed her nails earlier last week, she grew stressed and is having a flare up of Feline Herpes Virus (which both she and her sister, Citra, suffer from). It could cause additional congestion which could make her averse to food. We’re running a humidifier to try and combat this, in case it is a symptom. It’s also possible that she’s just a little constipated, and we just have to wait for nature to take its course. It’s also possible, however, that there is a much more serious medical issue that’s cropped up, and will require extensive treatment.
Needless to say, I’m trying to remain hopeful for her, since she otherwise seems to be perky and her normal snuggly and affectionate self. I will keep everyone posted on the outcome of her vet visit, but that’s another source of anxiety for me (and her).
We have a lovely vet that offers home visits. For a skittish and easily scared cat such as Simcoe, it takes some of the anxiety away to at least be poked and prodded in her own home. However, most of the vets are on a trip to Mexico to spay and neuter and treat sick animals there as charity for the people where such procedures would often cost an entire month’s salary. I’m happy they’re doing this, but of course it means that there are fewer vets available for home visits. I decided she needs to go immediately, rather than wait, so I’ll deal with her heightened anxiety accordingly to make up for the very scary car ride she’ll have tomorrow.
I just wanted to let everyone know. Simcoe is my pride and joy, and I’ve done a lot of work bringing her out of her shell, so to think she might be sick breaks my heart.
Fostering
So I’m fostering a 10 week old kitten. We just got her and she’s settling in. She’s shy, but doesn’t hiss or growl when you try to pick her up. I’m going to be working very hard on socializing her. She’ll be gone in 2 weeks when she gets the rest of her shots and will go up for adoption. And she’s in quarantine in a separate room. I don’t want to undo the work we’ve done with Simcoe and Citra, and just in case the little one has some kind of illness, we want to just make absolutely sure that she doesn’t get our cats sick. I’m calling her Chainsaw. Pics to come.
Had a vet visit - healthy cats!
Citra and Simcoe came to us suffering from Feline Herpes Virus - very common in shelter cats and we’ve been taking care of it. Had a vet out a few months ago to have them checked out. Simcoe just has a runny nose, and Citra gets some congestion in her sinuses. We use the basic treatment suggestions. I know there are some questions regarding L-Lysine and whether it works, but fortunately, the vet has assured me that even if it doesn’t work, it’s a vitamin that will pass through them. But other than that we got a humidifier to help the kitties with congestion. We noticed about a month ago that Citra had a pretty serious head tilt going on. She was also having some balance issues. Me, of course, being the overbearing cat-mom that I am, immediately called the vet and expected the worse. Luckily it was an inner ear infection, so we’ve been treating her with oral antibiotics (the vet was afraid Citra’s ear drum had ruptured, so no topical antibiotics!) We have a phenomenal vet service that comes out to the house, along with having a physical location for testing and surgeries. After the first trip to the location stressed out both Citra and Simcoe, I asked if a vet could come out, and they were happy to oblige. So they came out today and looked Citra over - and she’s all better! Her head tilt is significantly improved, and her ear is completely clear of bacteria and yeast. The girls were scared, but WAY better off in their own home since we didn’t have to separate them. Citra: A-Okay! No fever, no swelling or any signs of infection in her ear. Her head tilt and imbalance has pretty much stopped. She may have a small, permanent head tilt, but I’ve been assured that it’s nothing serious. Only to keep an eye out in case it ever gets worse. Simcoe: Had a nail trim! She was so good for the vet, even if she was terrified. Sif: Came out to check the vet to make sure they were okay. But then hid under the couch because she doesn’t like the way vets poke and prod her. Heimdall: Immediately demanded attention from both the vet and vet tech because he loves new people and pets.
