BACKGROUND / BIO
Growing up in sunny Los Angeles, Felix always thought he would be spending his life in California. It was where he felt at home, where he family was and where he wanted his children to grow up. His childhood was happy, he was the only child of a nurse and a teacher. Studying was always important to his family and to himself. While he was accepted in many Ivy League Schools, he decided against leaving Los Angeles, instead going to UCLA where he had also gotten a scholarship.
His undergrad was soon followed by a master degree and a PHD, all of them from UCLA. That is also where he met who he thought was the love of his life. While studying for his first year of PHD, he met another student, Sarah, and it all went very fast. While Felix had been in relationships before, it had never been anything like that. Within a year they were moving in together and getting engaged, and a couple years later, they were joined by a little girl, Carlotta.
Everything seemed to go great in Felix’s life, he had a job he loved that allowed him to continu to work on his research in English and Russian literature. He had a wife he loved, a daughter that he thought to be the smartest toddler in the world, and another baby on the way, a boy. That was until Leon’s birth, then everything shifted in his life. Felix started to notice Sarah acting different, and when he shared his worries with her, she assured him it was nothing. But, as the months passed by, nothing seemed to change. It was a few weeks before their son’s first birthday that thing started to look up. However, when he came home one night after spending the day with the kids and his parents, he found Sarah gone. In a letter she had left him, she gave no explanation, only apologising and saying that they would be better off without her. After waiting months for her to come home, or at least to hear from her, Felix gave up on the idea that she would come back. She didn’t want to be found, so he stopped looking for her.
A few months after she left, Felix decided to pack everything, moving Carlotta, Leon with him to Merrock. While it was a fresh start, it was also Sarah’s hometown, where her parents still lived and help Felix by babysitting his children from time to time. For four years now, Felix has lived in Merrock, giving up his tenured teaching position at UCLA for Merrock’s community college, but he has no regrets and while he might miss the sunshine, starting afresh was the right move for him and his children.
