Livio Felluga Vertigo - Located on the boarder of Austria and Slovenia, Friuli seems almost more slavic in style than Italian. Just like Alsace in France, this little pocket of land was strategically attractive durring both World Wars and exchanged hands more often then any of the residents care to remember. Now five generations deep, there really is no question of what is in Livio Felluga's blood: wine. 

This is a decidedly cooler climate, the influence of which is often perfect for crisp white wine. That being said, there are a few brave producers who have sought out plots that can support the later ripening red varietals the world is begging for. In this case, the classic blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are bold but retain classic italian acidity and freshness. 

In the glass the wine is practically opaque; a dense gem-like purple. On the nose, notes of blueberry pie, garam masala, creme de cassis and cigar box are all at the forefront. The palate is lush, juicy fruit help integrate well distributed tannin. The finish has notes of cedar, green cardamom and gingerbread cookies. Despite it's depth, it maintains a really fantastic vibrancy.
