liams used to nialls habit of biting her pencils when she does her homework, but it kinda grosses her out when she has to use the same pencil because she often forgets her own when she comes over so they go back and fourth sharing one because theyre both too lazy to walk down the 15 steps into the living room to get one from the computer desk. and one day she cant help but let an 'ew' slip from her mouth when there's slobber and niall flushes taking the pencil back and runs down stairs to get liam a new one muttering an apology, she sits further away from liam and tucks her knees into her chest and takes her own science book from her bag and holds it in front of her face so she can read it (and block liam from seeing her blush from embarrassment). liam doesn't like when nialls upset, or embarrassed because it makes her feel like a bad friend because a good friend wouldnt have mentioned it and just toughed through it and they would still be sitting curled up together sharing a blanket and a book and liam would still be able to subtly be able to "accidentally" brush their hands when they pass the pencil between them, and she's be able to subtly wrap one arm around niall because "i was fixing the blanket, and i need to see the book better" even though she was able to see the book just fine, and there was nothing wrong with the blanket. after an hour of liam just sitting watching niall quietly do her work she gets really mad with herself because she knows nialls embarrassed because of her because she thinks that shes grossed out by the slobber (which, okay, is a bit gross. but its nothing she couldnt deal with so whyd she have to act like that?) and she stands up and leaves to the bathroom and forgets her phone in the bedroom and only remembers when she hears it go off with a text from erica (the only one of her friends that knows about her crush on niall and thats what they were talking about). and when she hears niall tell her that shes checking her phone she almost screams no and almost runs out to take it from her before she saw anything, but she didn't want to look suspicious. and, hopefully it wasn't erica texting her back, then thered be no problem. hopefully. but no, sadly after she flushed the toilet and washed her hands to make it seem liks she wasnt hiding she walked back out and saw niall sitting on the bed scrolling through her phone and when she climbed on the bed next to her she saw she was reading through the messages. apparently the universe wasnt so kind as to it letting her mom know she was going to be late for dinner again, but it was in fact erica telling her again to grow some balls and tell niall how she felt. liam wasnt sure how niall was going to react but she was sure it wasnt going to be good so she quickly gathered her things and went to take her phone from niall but she pulled it out of liams reach and rolled over onto her stomach facing away from liam so she couldnt reach it, and liam smiled, because they used to do this all the time over the stuffed wolf doll liam had that niall loved (so liam got her her own for her birthday the next time she saw them in the store), and dropped her bag and climbed onto the bed and tried to get the phone from niall. liam had flipped niall over onto her back and was sitting on her waist trying to pull the phone out of her grasp when niall made a deal. "tell me how you feel and i might give you your phone" so liam confessed because it cant be any worse. at least liam will always have erica and isaac and stiles to be friends with after niall takes all their shared friends (i.e. louis, harry, and zayn) and makes them abandon her because she doesnt want to be friends with the weird girl that has a massive crush on her (that has her phone back ground being a picture that niall didnt even know liam took, so that was also up there on the creep scale). "i like you niall. i like like you." then niall smiles and says "if you kiss me you can have a new phone background and your phone back" so liam kisses her and sees the dull flash of her camera go off from behind her closed eyes and pulls back and niall makes her come back down because she also needs a new phone background. and liam thinks maybe it wouldnt be so bad after all. and hey, when they show up to school the next day holding hands, erica makes louis pass her a 20, and zayn makes scott give him a 20 and liam squawks at them because, they had a bet on her and niall!, but its okay because niall just laughs and kisses liam against the lockers.
