Do you like the name Harriet for Harry? What are your thoughts on Harlow or other “Har-” names?

Harry’s middle name would obviously be Lily, but what would the new first name be?

I like Harriet. It's very British, and it's got a lot of the same energy that 'Harry' does. I could see same couple picking both.

I talk about some alternate names I would use for a gender-swapped Harry here, and about the logic I think make Lily and James arrive at "Harry" in the first place.

Since you made that post about the epilogue kids' names, do you have any other ideas for fem Harry names? I just wonder if theyd still name

One of the fun things about going though the "Female Harry" tag is seeing all the names that people give her. I see Holly, Heather, and Hazel a lot (makes sense, Lily is a botanical name, and there are a lot of botanical names in the books.) And also Harlow, Harley, Harlyn - slightly more modern 'cooler' names that abbreviate down to "Harry."

I guess my perspective is that I kind of like that 'Harry Potter' is a name that's... a little old fashioned, and a little *plain* within his own universe. There's some swagger to being called just 'James Bond' in a universe where everyone else is 'Sable Basilisk' and 'Domino Vitali' and 'Vesper Lynd.'

How would you write a female Harry Potter reading the books because I just know that I would had devour it if you did

Ooooo... hmm...

First, Harry has messy red hair, which she keeps short thanks to her aunt but also because she actually likes it. She looks a lot like her mother. This actually inspires worse treatment from Petunia because I headcanon Lily was the 'pretty one' in their family. Petunia isn't bad-looking, no, but Lily was gorgeous.

Second, this would be a 'all magical beings see the future' story with random Muggleborn kids who don't know the truth confused as fuck. It takes place right after Hagrid takes Harry to Diagon.

Other thoughts:

I'd kind of lean into a more LGBTQ+ Wizarding World. No one gives a solid fuck who you like/are. It's blood purity that they focus on.

Still having Golden Trio cause that's my jam with OT3 as the end pairing.

The Dursley family is fully addressed, and Harry gets help during the first year. You can hear my rant again, but boys and girls are socially different even in the Wizarding World where I imagine few give a fuck what is between your legs. Or who you sleep with or if you get married. (In this world, marriage was more of an upper society thing that became fashionable in the last few decades, with more Muggleborns being in favour of it. Usually, you just move in with your partner, decide which name you'd use, and be done with it. The Weasley parents are one such couple who did so.) And a sullen boy with too baggy clothes and a broken pair of glasses is vastly different from a girl being the same.

I'd portray Dumbledore as well-meaning but, at his core, still a war general and politician. He isn't a bad person; he just is... old. And he has his plots/plans/secrets. He does hate child abuse, though he has to be given proof. His trauma of losing his father, his sister's death, and his mother's as well caused him to really latch onto the idea that blood family is important. He admits this to Harry when she confronts him.

Remus comes in here, revealing that laws preventing werewolves from interacting with children unless they have the guardian's permission kept him away. Dumbledore, though, takes custody and says, 'I'm busy during the summers. Here is your long-lost uncle.' And here we go! (Dumbledore wants to be on Harry's good side but I also do enjoy fics where he is a mentor truly so.... we're going with a mix)

I'd play with Malfoy. Honestly, I like the idea of him having a crush on Harry while being unable to really admit it. His parents, upon learning, don't actually disapprove. She is a good politician match, and they found out that she is the Black Heir, which means money. Still though, the antagonism is there. I'd also throw Snape in to encourage Malfoy. He 100% views Harry as Lily's daughter because in this AU Harry takes more after Lily than James in features. Snape views Malfoy/Harry as a second chance and the 'right choice'. He's a dick.

Actually I think Snape might be worse in this AU to because of how much Harry looks like Lily. She's dead, this brat is running around with her face, it pisses him off. I also think that he ends up on probation after the first month of the first year due to his treatment of Harry going really nasty. He does get 'better' as time goes on, or more acturatly, he realizes he can engineer 'what should have happened' while casting Malfoy as Snape's teenager self trying to win the heart of his love. Yes, it's creepy. No one likes it.

I also think I'd explore sexism from the view of a 'you don't need to do those things/you're looking for male validation/you're such a girl' sort of stuff. Harry, having never been allowed to explore her feminine side thanks to Petunia, flings herself into it. I'd drag in Lavender and Pavarti as her girly friends. This causes tension with Hermione who was raised to scorn this kind of stuff. It also causes issues with Ginny who here is a butch lesbian who is obsessed with Harry, and dislikes how Harry isn't following the ideal of a 'big strong here' Ginny had.

We then have Ron who was the forgotten son thanks to being the 'good kid' whom decides everyone is crazy, and loves how Harry looks.

I know I'd be doing a lot of lore changes, making women badass, and all the gay/trans people I can (Fred ends up coming out as genderfluid, for example), and actually joining the stories together. I'd have actual links and effects of past books on future ones. IE- Flamel appears to teach students alchemy because he worries about lost knowledge when he dies. The Chamber of Secrets has an effect on the victims, Dementor exposure is a serious thing. Oh, and dropping hints about Horocruxes early.

Oh, and Peter gets caught. Snape is called out for trying to claim they're confounded because he'd happily see them die, and Dumbledore is outright disgusted with him. Hell, maybe I'd have it that he doesn't come back for fourth year due to this disgust. We'll see.

Hmm... you really got me thinking. I'm putting this on the pile now.

hedera is the botanical name for ivy so it has the flower theme from lily, it still starts with an h so its recognizable, its not over the top like hydrangea or hellebore. plus its not heather (sorry, absolutely hate that name for fem harry). and i havent even gotten to the best part: hedera can have the nickname of hedy

Proud of Her Curls

Written for @ginnystrophyhusband microfic event with the prompt "Curly"

Word Count: 529

It was the night of the Yule Ball. Rose Potter was looking herself at the mirror, admiring her dark curls, proud of them. But she wasn’t always proud of them. She reminisced the time everything changed.

It was summer after first year. Ron Weasley with his twin brothers had rescued Rose from her relatives. Rose was arranging her things in Ginny’s room. She was hoping to know the girl Weasley, because she wanted to have a friend that was a girl. She didn’t have that much luck in that department during the year, everyone was just about the girl-who-lived and not about Rose. Rose looked at the walls of Ginny’s room, admiring the posters of the Holyhead Harpies.

“So, you like the Harpies as well?” Ginny asked.

“I’m just getting in this world. Can you tell me more about them?”

“They are the only all-female team in the league! I want to be one of them!”

“You like quidditch?”

“Yes! But my brothers, they don’t let me play with them!”

“Your brothers are idiots! Considering I exist, and as far as I remember, the Gryffindor chasers!”

“Yeah, they are hypocrites, they think I’m made of glass or something.”

“You can fly on my broom if you want!”

“Of course, I do!”

They both went to the orchard where they took turns flying on Rose’s Nimbus.

“I like flying, feeling the wing on my face and my hair. Rose, why do you have short hair?” Ginny asked.

Rose scowled. “My aunt said my hair was untamable. She forced me to have it short. It is worse than the hair of Hermione, another girl in my year.”

“Rose, there’s a solution for that. There may be some potions to help you! I’ll help you too!”

The following trip to Diagon Alley, they also bought a hair care book, and the ingredients of the Sleekeazy’s hair potion. Rose laughed at the fact that it was her grandfather the one that invented that potion “It looks like it was a family problem.”

The following months and years, the friendship between Rose and Ginny got closer. They set on a routine where they both helped treat each other’s hair.

Rose finished adding the final touches for her hairstyle. Parvati approached her, “Hey! I have to ask you, who is your date. I thought you were going with Weasley, but Weasley invited me to go with him.”

Rose smiled and said, “I’m taking my best friend!”

“But Weasley is going with me!”

“I’m talking about my girl best friend. I’m talking about Ginny.”

“You are a witches’ witch?”

“I discovered that, when I reacted to the veela in the World Cup. Ginny also reacted to them.”

“I’ll defend you if someone says something about you. By the way, I love your hair now! I’d like to have those curls!”

“My hair is my favorite part of me now.”

“As it should be!”

Rose went down the stairs. Five minutes later, Ginny appeared in the common room, wearing a cute purple dress that matched well with Rose’s green. They both held hands and walked out of the common room. They need to show everyone who’s boss.
