American photographer Nan Goldin is known for her extremely emotive and somewhat contraversial imagery. Her work carries heavy and powerful narratives, with the artist’s most noteable works exploring LGBT bodies, moments of intimacy, the HIV crisis, violence, and the opioid epidemic.

Noawadays she is based between Paris, New York City and Berlin, taking influences from each of theseplaces for her work.

Goldin has documented sexual acts, women looking in mirrors, girls in bathrooms and barrooms, thedrag scene, and the culture of obsession and dependency.

Her diary-like images are usually presented on a slideshow, adding further to the intimacy of the images, as well as the fact that Goldin herself is recovering from an opiod addiction.

I like the grittiness of Goldin’s work. I feel that the dicussion invited by the her photographs of very difficult subjects matters, are incredibly important.
