Red Dwarf drabble: Steady State
(For @janamelie, who wanted sciency Harmony/Beryl.)
Intra-academic relations were discouraged, so naturally everyone had them. Most were cross-disciplinary, but physics being physics, you could get good quality discourse even within your own specialty. Some might consider that queer, but Harmony wasn’t fuzzy. That was for Steve and the boys in the logic department. (Which, incidentally, threw the best parties.)
She first met Beryl at one, slinging drinks while presenting evidence for the existence of a ninth planet. The cocktail onions quite excellently described gravitational velocity when Harmony caught it in her mouth, and there it was.
She’d say they had chemistry, but of course, they didn’t.

(For @cbarriefans, who wanted Deb/Kochanski! I’ll admit a cheated a little with this one; I wrote a fic for Yuletide one year where these guys appeared...)
“And then what?” Deb settled closer to Kris, a protective arm around her waist. The baby was due any day now - she owed that mysterious male Rimmer character more than she could ever repay.
“You’ll never believe me.”
“I believed zombie GELFs and interdimensional travel, didn’t I? Let’s have it.”
Kris shook her head. “He told me there were infinite universes, infinite Listers and Kochanskis...”
“None as handsome as me, though?”
“He told me... there were male Kochanskis out there. Male Listers.”
Deb frowned. “So in some smegged-up dimension, I’m straight?”
Kris nodded.
“Not this one.” Deb kissed her.
