So I am gonna adjust my TBR for February as I was inspired by a youtube vid, and am going to read mostly books written by black female authors in a combo of #blackout and #femmeuary.

Does anyone have any recs? Toni Morrison is definitely on my list (and I’m excited because I’ve never read her), but I would really like to find some fantasy/scifi/mystery/literary fiction/YA/nonfiction. Also eyeing Octavia Butler and Homegoing, and I’m already almost done with the hate u give, but other than that I have nothing firm at all.

Basically, let me know anything you’ve read and dug. I like, quite literally, everything.

So last night I picked up and consumed this play within what felt like a matter of minutes and a lifetime simultaneously. I really enjoyed it: Christina, The Girl King by Michel Marc Bouchard 🇸🇪 This is a play that follows the Queen of Sweden (back in the day) as she explores Religion vs. Knowledge, Masculinity vs. Femininity, and Love vs. Manipulation. It is a thrilling account of a lesbian love affair that historians are too afraid to name 🦌 This is my first play from @talonbooks publishing, and I am definitely keen to pick up more from them. Not only do they have up to 6 Bouchard texts, but their catalogue looks incredible, especially their support for minority own voice writers. In the wake of International Women's day I'm gunna big myself up- here you can read the piece I did for femmeuary, which is an annual feminist zine run by my beautiful friend Alice Ash. This year I felt brave enough to submit something and it actually ended up with me reading it in front of a lot of people at the buzzing femmeuary event, which made me feel like I had taken a lot of cocaine in the best possible way. Being able to read something I'd written to people made me feel like the uncertainty I feel about wanting to write fade for a bit, like I was relevant and my voice could touch people too. I was also so lucky to hear the stories, film and music of some amazing women, who reminded me that we're all in this together and we are powerful, beautiful and needed. Femmeuary 2015 was amazing and here's to another year of stronger and better womankind x
