Sometimes Renee can’t believe it herself, that she has this beautiful, amazing woman in her life until she wakes up every morning. Each day she takes the time before the alarm goes off to soak in the sight of her girlfriend sprawled out in bed beside her, to convince herself that this isn’t a dream. God knows Renee doesn’t deserve this. She’s trying her hardest, but someone like Allison should never belong to someone that should never have existed.
This morning is no different. Allison is lying on her front, hands shoved beneath the pillow with her face turned to Renee. Her lips are parted in sleep, breathing softly, and Renee finds herself unconsciously matching her every exhale. Slowly, she dares reach out to brush the stray hairs from Allison’s face. Allison shifts slightly in her sleep but doesn’t wake, and Renee allows a smile to tug at her lips as she threads her fingers through the golden waves. Quiet moments like this are rare, snatches of intimacy among the chaos of the foxes and though she loves Allison’s boisterous, fiery personality, she also loves this side to her too.
The alarm goes off and Allison groans. Renee, her fingers still in Allison’s hair, softens the harsh awakening with a gentle kiss to the corner of her mouth, to which Allison tilts her head to meet her. There’s a hint of a sleepy smile when Allison pulls back and finally opens her eyes.
The darkness stirs inside but with Allison, Renee will always feel one step closer to redemption. “Morning.”
