30 Day RP Challenge: Day 11
See previous post (Day 10) for why I’m behind and working on catching up.
Fen’alath of Clan Lavellan is the leader of the Inquisition in Dragon Age: Inquisition. She was an only child who, upon losing her parents, was raised by Keeper Deshanna; originally she was Second to the Keeper, but after the First died she took his place.
11.) Is there an animal you equate with your character?
Short conversation with Varric answers this.
Varric: So do all the different elven gods have animal forms?
Fena: Not exactly. Fen’Harel was known for shapeshifting the most often into his wolf form; Mythal is able to become a dragon in our legends, but also changed into a giant serpent to face Andruil once. Ghilan’nain become the first Halla, and thus created the species that we consider sacred. The rest of the Creators had animals considered sacred to them or had nothing to do with animals at all, as far as we know. *Sighs* There is so much we don’t know about our pantheon.
Varric: Well, what kind of animal would you be? Maybe a ha-
Varric: Okay, Snowflake, take it easy. I guess that’s kind of an obvious one for a Dalish, and unoriginal at that. *Scrutinizes her for a bit, rubbing his chin thoughtfully* Hmmm... what about a snow leaopard?
Fena: A snow leopard? Now I really don’t know what you’re thinking.
Varric: Hear me out, Snow. Elves always strike me as cat-like people, and you’re no different, but you’re not a typical one and neither are these cats. These leopards are different namely because they are suited for cold weather, and you’re the first elf I’ve ever met that has withstood living in places like Haven and Skyhold for long without complaining about the weather. You seem to thrive in places like this. And while some big cats roar and make a fuss, like lions, snow leopards are of a quieter intensity. They aren’t aggressive to people and keep to themselves; you, my friend, were quite the challenge to open in the beginning.
Fena: A snow leopard, hm? And how do you know so much about them?
Varric: We’re in the blasted mountains, Fena; I want to know what will and won’t kill me on sight. I also met a man who kept one as a pet. He told me all about it and let me see it in the enclosure he made for it. While fairly docile, I could tell it was not an animal to be trifled with. *pauses, thinking* If I remember correctly, it had grey eyes awfully similar in likeness to yours.
Fena: Now you’re just spinning another tale. *smirks* A snow leopard sounds strange, but also interesting. Are we really so similar?
Varric: If you were one of those Creators your people worship, I imagine that’s the animal you could change into.
Fena: *Sarcastically* Why Varric, that’s blasphemy you speak. I could no more be a Creator than you could be Andraste’s long-lost son! Does an Andrastian consider other gods existing alongside their Maker?
Varric: Very funny Snowflake.
