Day 12 - Fence and You

i've never been good with words, and i fear most of my emotions about fence have always been better conveyed with things i can create -- but we're trying right now!

i found fence during lockdown when my best friend pestered me into reading it bc she got SUPER into it and needed someone to talk about it with. and it wasn't an instantaneous sort of love. i liked it, a lot, but i wasn't really expecting to follow it super closely. i don't know why, maybe the isolation of lockdown or random impulse, but i started a tumblr and started drawing fanart. it was definitely a strange decision considering who i was at the time (and well. still am to an extent). i loved getting into other people's interests, but i never really needed a community of people to talk about mine with. i don't know why fence was something i needed more community for -- but i'm glad i found one waiting. it was this combined love for this silly gay fencing comic that really pushed me into drawing more and pushing the limits of my skills to get to those more ambitious projects and visions. it's a love which would make me a different person and creator if i didn't find it back in 2020.

and since then, i can't imagine myself or my life without it. fence helped me through some painful experiences over the past five years, and it was there for me when i had the creative itch to pour my extra energy into something. no matter what or how long, fence always has kept guiding my pen back to paper (or erm. rather, a tablet) and drawing. i just don't know how else to say 'thank you' for something that's been such an anchoring point in my life.

Is the fence fandom still active? It probably will be more active after the release of the challengers but everyone just kinda spawned off or is it just me?

Ok so I have some thoughts on this

Firstly, though Kings row if the “main” school in the book, I don’t think they’ll win. Like, it’s just not possible. In the ladder thing at Halverton , you can see that it’s only seiji that is in 2ed. They might defeat Lowther and maybe MAYBE McRob but it’s not mathematically possible for them to win cause also they have like, Les than a week for states. Also, Exton and Halverton has better fencers. (And almost everyone in Exton is ranked) so my hope is that at least let Halverton win. They have a pretty good chance. I don’t rly know the ages of Gian and Van and also I think that Scott is older than them ( cause of some hints I’ll make another post) and Scott maybe ranked in his age bracket (he’ll probably pull up some shit) .McRob has a tighter chance cause of Marcus and Nate, but I don’t think that they’ll win cause of the strength of Halverton and Exton.

My conclusion is that I kinda want the book to be realistic and I just don’t think that kings row has the best chance. And since after the camp they only have a few day to it, they can’t just magically get better and win. So I think Exton might loose in this book and I REALLY hope that Nicholas tells someone that Robert is his secret dad.

And with nicoji (sry if I spelt it wrong) (this is an edit) I hope seiji admits he enjoys Nicholas’s company and I reallllly hope they become a thing. I also have some hope on the friendship between seiji and Jesse. Even tho they have a complicated relationship, I hope they make up.

P.s I hope when kings row arrives, there’s some chaotic argument/fight between the Exton and Halverton team. (AND WHAT REALLY HAPPENED IN THE HALVERTON STORAGE ROOM?!?!?!)

I’m just rly exited for the book. Can you blame me?
