I think Fen should throw someone out a window (or get thrown out a window herself) exclusively because I want to see the words Fenestra and defenestrated in the same sentence
I'm rereading Hollowpox and I forgot just how heavy the writing is at times. It's genuinely astounding that Jessica Townsend is able to write a "children's" book that deals with hard issues without watering them down but still making the ideas accessible to kids.
Specifically this chapter - Chapter 23: Rescue Rings - inspired this post
Thinking about the Deucalion being a front for Fen's smuggling ring. At least initally.
Jupiter studying law in Wunsoc and going into immigration to help people like Bertram. He loves the study, but the actual practicing isn't what he imagined.
His win/loss ratio is abysmal. No matter how hard he fights, most of the people he defends are sent back to the Republic, maybe even to their deaths if it's found out that they tried to enter the Free State.
His defenses are amazing, but the fact of the matter is that the Free State doesn't want to help these people. It doesn't want to help anybody from the Republic, even if they aren't actually of the Wintersea Party.
He gets angry. He tried to help through above-board means, and now, it's time to get his hands dirty.
He contacted the few people whose cases he actually won, listened to who helped them into the Free State. Many names came up, but one over and over. Fenestra.
After a bit of searching, he finds her in an underground cage fighting ring. He comes up to her after a match and tells her he wants to help.
She doesn't believe him. Between his W pin and his eagerness, she was pretty sure he was working for the Stink. Slowly, over a few weeks, he worked her down and eventually, she agreed to let him into some of her operation.
He started using his role in the Government and power as a Wun to secretly help Fen with her smuggling ring. This worked for a few months, but Fen was constantly complaining about the lack of safe houses in her system.
That gave Jupiter an idea.
He had seen the ruins of a hotel down in Wick. It would be the perfect cover! Full of rooms, and a great way to make money.
He uses the money from his law career and from his wun related odd jobs to fund the rebuild, and hires Fen as his "head of housekeeping" to cover their tracks legally.
It works brilliantly. On the surface, the Deucalion is a fancy hotel that attracts arisocrats and rich people, underneath, people seeking shelter in the Free State file in and out, staying until a place somewhere can be secured for them.
Over time, Jupiter got a little distracted by the "hotel" part of the operation, growing the Deucalion to heights he never could have dreamed of, but he never forgot the reason he purchased the Deucalion in the first place. Though not many illegal immigrants pass through its walls anymore, Jupiter continues to use the money he makes from the Deucalion to fund Fen's smuggling ring. To help people like his brother.
And eventually, people like Morrigan.

Anyways, MOG AND FEN DRAWINNGGGG. Never tried drawing fenestra before. Also, ignore how lopsided her head is.
