CW FOR Implied abuse, panic attack!
Both of the figures stared at each other, one was glaring, and the other did the same. They were inside of the daycare attendants room, it's messy despite how clean they make the daycare but … at least there's a comfy bed. Can animatronics even sleep?
"You know you could've asked if I wanted to be taken care of like this," Fern grumbled under their breath, knees up to their chest with an unamused expression. "You're not being very nice just keeping me here from going home." He says tiredly, hugging his knees with half of their face buried into their knees, staring like a dagger at the animatronic in front of them.
Moondrop folded his arms, leaning back to the wall behind him with a glare back at them. "You would have said no either way, and plus.." He leaned in, poking his claw at their nose as a tease. "You aren't being nice either.. to yourself." He stated, the last words he had spoken of were more of a serious, but caring tone.. In a way.
Fern blinked at him for a second, their exhausted eyes squinted and their eyebrows furrowed at him. He lifted up his head from his knees, hands resting on his sides. “Really? How would you know?”
The animatronic held up a hand and cleared his throat, hand closed to a ball before listing all the things Fern is not taking care of himself that well.
One finger up, “One, your eyebags are bad,”
Two fingers up, “Two, your hair is messy and unkept,”
Three fingers up, with a glare. “And three, you look like a damn living corpse.”
They stilled, eyes widening at the sudden curse that slipped out of Moon’s mouth. “You can swear?”
He simply shrugged, casually resting his hand on his knee. He's pretty confident that if Sundrop wasn't fast offline in their shared headspace, they'd definitely be giving him an earful about it, “Sometimes filters don’t come through, Star. Now, about you..” He casually edged a bit closer to Fern, with them instinctively trying to create some distance but realizing they were trapped by a wall just behind them. Just for a moment, Moondrop's optics flickered with a hint of irritation, giving off a brief, red glow.
“You’re going to stay overnight this time, until you realize you actually need some break. Don’t worry– I have let management know about this.” He paused for a second, looking at the shock with a hint of fear expression on Fern’s face. “And about your mother, don’t worry about that as well– we simply noted that it’s for emergency maintenance.”
They stilled, eyes widening feeling like it could stretch Fern’s whole head if they kept widening their eyes. How did he know about this?! Where did he know about their mother?! They stutter, feeling anxiety creep up the back of their spine as their head is screaming many horrifying questions involving their own mother. “I-.. No-! You can’t just do that-! What- What if-!” “Up-pa-pa-pah! No more of that, Fern.” He tutted softly, shushing them with his clawed finger. “We’re not just going to let you make yourself rot, we’re made as caretaker animatronics for a reason.”
“But I'm fine! For heaven’s sake, there’s nothing going between me and my mom, Moon!” They try to protest, until realizing that Moondrop isn’t buying any of what they’re saying, even if trying to defend their own mother who, well– they know that she’s horrible themself, but never wanting anyone else to know– but now it’s happening, it’s making them paranoid.
Oh.. Oh no, no no no, no! They’re going to get sued, they’re going to be taken to court! They’re going to bring authorities involved into this mess! No!
It's as if a whirlwind of thoughts is raging in their mind, making them feel a bit overwhelmed. Their hands are starting to tremble, and their legs are too. In this moment, they can't help but feel a little helpless and small, like they did back when they would curl up in a corner to escape their mom's yelling or any other outside negativity. It's like their breath is getting shorter and they're starting to breathe a little heavily, as their head becomes a jumble of messy, horrifying thoughts.
They couldn’t even hear Moon trying to repeatedly call their name gently, but not touching them as it would cause a havoc panic if Moon ever does so. He felt like his circuits were aching a little just looking at how desperately Fern is trying to cower in the corner. It made him feel bad about doing this, but he couldn’t just.. Let it happen! If they weren’t being helped sooner something else bad could have happened without Moon knowing!
Thank goodness Sundrop is offline, because if he ever saw this– he would freak out too and fight over Moon for control of their own body to switch.
Moondrop frantically searched their room, hoping to find something that might offer a bit of solace to Fern amidst their panicked state. They were determined to find anything that could potentially bring them even a tiny bit of comfort. He stood up slowly and exited the room from a hole to another side of the room– scavenging around for any plushie, his optics immediately landed on a lonely cat plush that was given once from a child that they have taken care of in here in the daycare– gratefully giving to the daycare attendants as a thank you gift.
They grabbed the plush gently lifting it up from the dusty floor of their room, and smiled at it before he gazed back to the other side of the room where sobs and panicked breaths could be heard and made their systems ache just by listening to it from a distance.
Moon had quietly travelled back to the other side of the room, where Fern is visibly on the corner of the room that they were in, trembling and stuffing his face into his knees while trying to quietly stroke his own hand to have a little comfort. He set himself down just right beside them, thinking of the choices he should be making as programmed instructions of how one should comfort a panicking individual. He gazed back at the plush, delicately placing it in Fern’s small hand. “Hush.. hush.. You’re okay. I promise.” He whispers softly to them, using the tone of voice that he usually uses for naptime.
The arm of the cat plush gripped tightly by their hand and slowly tilted their head to look at the plush, not making eye contact with Moon yet. They sniffled, looking at the plush as they pulled it closer to their face to look at the details. Fern always liked cats, they love cats, they make them happy… happy, so happy, remembering cats were the first thing they see out of the house every morning, wanting to pet them so badly but only got yelled at by their mother because of how dirty they are.
A small tug on their lips formed a tiny smile, grazing their thumb over the bow that the cat had adorned on its neck. It was red with a bell, making it have an adorable and intriguing appearance. Moon sighed softly at the sight, relieved it worked.
“Are you okay now, Star? Ready to talk, maybe?” He asks softly, his pointy finger rubbed gently on the top of the cat plush’s head, as if he was petting it.
“Mm.. scared.” Fern replies quietly, the grip on the cat tightened a tiny bit.
“I know, but I promise you, you’re safe now and please, let us take care of you for once.” He said with a stern tone in his voice, he was serious about it and he meant it. “Just for tonight?”
Without hesitation, Fern leaned gently against Moon's shoulder, catching him off guard with their sudden gesture. However, his initial surprise melted away, and he glanced down at them with a softer expression.
Moon noticed that Fern's trembling had subdued, and they seemed to be breathing more calmly and composed. This observation brought him a sense of relief, sighing quietly.
“I’ll take that as a yes, wait for a moment.. I’ll go get something first, okay?” Moon gently removes Fern’s head out of his shoulder, standing up and leaving the room. They felt a little disappointed at the gesture but let him do it anyway and waited for his return.
As Moon made his way through the bustling food cafeteria in the lively but quiet due to it being closed– pizza plex, his charming bells jingled playfully. With finesse, he skillfully maneuvered with his wire to ensure he could secure a delicious warm meal for Fern. In his quest, he handpicked a few, particularly a plate filled with piping hot pizza, the kind that he could only get for now. Accompanying this scrumptious treat, he also grabbed a refreshing bottle of mineral water, chilled to perfection in one of the plex's well-stocked kitchens.
Fern’s ear prickled, listening to gentle bells arriving at the balcony of the room, soft footsteps nearing them and there Moon was, with food in his hands. Their stomach grumbled, making them embarrassed but gained an amusing tiny chuckle from Moondrop. They gratefully ate half of the pizza, chucking a bottle of water down their throat– refreshing!
“Was that okay?” They nod in answer, smiling weakly. “Full, thanks.”
Moondrop smiles even more at Fern's response. It was great to hear that they were finding some assistance from him, as he willingly would help them in any way that he could. He delicately placed the half-eaten pizza on the only table in the room, ensuring that it was within easy reach for Fern, if they ever wanted another bite.
Taking a nearby pillow, he positioned it behind Fern as they leaned against the wall. This way, they could both relax comfortably while engaging in some light conversation. Moondrop knew that distracting Fern from worrying about their mother was important, so they chatted about various topics, easing Fern's concerns bit by bit before falling asleep on the beanbag that their body was leaning against.
