hey I'm back! No clue if it was noticeable but I took a break from tumblr for Lent. Very glad I did I was definitely focusing too much on it haha, but I'm renewed and ready for Easter! Missed y'all <3 MISSED ALL THE ARTTT

Go watch Elio!!

Got to see this movie in theaters today and it was very enjoyable! If you’re able to please support this original! animated! movie!

It takes a basic story concept, explores it in a very fun way, and all the character designs and world building were really neat imo. The lighting in particular of this film is downright gorgeous!

Also the friendship between Elio and Glordon is just so sweet and wholesome and I loved their interactions, really hope we get to see more of these two.

More thoughts (and spoilers) under the cut

Ok ok so this film has a banger and gut punch opening, like I saw this little guy hiding under a table for five seconds and immediately was attached. I liked that they explored one of the less shown aspects of grief in him not having an appetite. The golden record exhibit is just really, really cool. They really captured the awestruck, struggling to absorb a moment feeling you get at places like the aquarium or planetarium. The projections on his face were really pretty and then way he just lays down and starts tearing up 😭

I found his voice a little jarring at first, like it didn’t fit the character but that did not last long at all. The voice actor did an amazing job of capturing this quirky little kids speech and personality.

For the overall story: I wouldn’t say the story writing was anything astounding or super innovative, it was a very basic premise that they run with a few diversions and (thankfully) no “betrayal misunderstanding moment” . I’ve seen some people saying the dialogue was bland and yeah I kinda see that a little? But the imaginative and visual side of this film definitely balanced the average writing for me.

Complete side note that I mentioned to a friend and just have to include here, this kid straight up says “I’m the alpha, I’m the leader “ to himself at one point and I freaking lost it I was NOT expecting that XD

I really, REALLY liked this film’s lighting. Everything from Elio’s different glowing lights, the dramatic contrasts in environments, the reflections from glowing water and other objects, it was just really really pretty.

One specific scene that I really appreciated the pacing of was after Elio gets kicked back to earth and washes up on shore. That. Scene. I was actually kind of surprised by how emotional they made it, poor little guy just crying to himself in the tide?? I really liked the slow realization his Tia has, and how he doesn’t just rush right back to her. They sit. He hears how she feels and THANK GOODNESS HE GETS A HUG

The ending was fine for me. Pretty expected but still sweet, all the aliens goodbye was adorable but obviously Glordons hug was extra aweeeee. SPEAKING OF THAT GOOBER, I love Glordon so much and the way he was curled up shivering was actually heartbreaking. I really wish he got more screen time before he got too cold. His relationship with his dad is absolutely precious.

alright some last details I liked were anything Elio made like his decorated suitcase and backpack, the symbolism with his eyepatch, him teaching Glordon Elionese (no idea how you spell that lol) and His SPACE OUTFIT so cool! Love the shoes, glad he got to keep them lol

✿Hanakanjō✿

This is a self-indulgent explanation of how my version of Hanakanjō works :}

First of all, what is Hanakanjō?  Normally it’s a disease, but my version is a curse. (You've likely heard of its more popular sister, Hanahaki, in which the victim coughs up flower petals when they suffer from one-sided love.)

“Hanakanjō is a (curse) in which flowers start growing out of the victim's body because of a strong emotion. 

Maybe they'll grow when you're happy, feel loved, or at peace! In that case (good emotions), the flowers will sprout painlessly. But maybe they'll grow when you're depressed, anxious, or deeply missing someone... In that case (bad emotions), the flowers will sprout with a sharp pain.” -Urban Dictionary 

✿ In my version, flowers from positive emotions can easily be removed without any pain, but flowers from negative emotions shouldn’t be bothered because they won’t come off harmlessly. 

✿ The type of flowers that grow are based on the language of flowers! Some Examples:foxglove= secrets, snowdrop= consolation/hope, zinnia= friendship, rue= regret, white peonies= bashfulness/shame

✿ The blooms take time to grow, it isn’t instant. Typically a couple of hours pass before flowers reflecting strong emotions fully emerge. (This is why Sundae was able to hide her curse from others for so long.) 

✿ If someone with Hanakanjō suppresses their emotions, good or bad, the effects will pile up, resulting in a sudden bloom burst of the respective flowers aaall over.

A year ago today I first shared this goober's reference sheet, it's really hard to believe I've had her that long. Feels like just yesterday I was listening to "Good as New" and doodling ideas for a turtle oc.. they grow up so fast :')

I know it's kind of dramatic but she really does mean so much to me, so many memories with friends, so many fic ideas..

hHIHIAOIII Idk if anyone noticed me missing haha but I am back :D

I went to a "summer camp" where God did so many amazing things I don't even know where to begin but

over 40 teens got healed, a girl with a soccer injury could do flips again, a guys rotator cuff moving without any pain, lots of people's asthma clearing indefinitely

So many found complete freedom from anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, addictions and self harm. This one beautiful girl saw that cuts on her arms had dissapeared, she was so excited "and this one's gone! And this one's gone!!"

I experienced the peace of the Holy Spirit like never before, I've felt his presence and peace previously but Thursday night (18th) it was beyond beautiful, I didn't even know it was POSSIBLE to feel such complete peace

All shame and guilt and feeling like I need to be perfect is gone gone! Jesus took it all away and I am totally free!

In summary God is literally so cool and kind I hope anyone who sees this opens their heart to feel his complete unending love and you find freedom through Jesus from what's been burdening you <3

More testimonies under the cut!

♡ One of the nights i was having trouble sleeping and started feeling super lonely and hopeless, which was really weird because less than an hour before I had been totally joyful and at home with my roommates? I remembered one of the speakers mentioning about how God can speak to us through feelings, so i started to pray for whoever was the one feeling like this.

I got up to write something down and felt prompted to just keep writing. I ended up with a page filled front to back that I eventually felt I was meant to read and give to my roommate who said it was just what she needed, had been experiencing and God had been showing her that week. I had no idea what all she'd been going through but God did :)

♡ Another cool one was during worship one night i glanced at the back of the girl's shirt infront of me, it had 2 words of like a company or something and the second one started with a G. At first I thought it said garden but when her hair moved I realized it was something else. But the word Garden was on my mind. (Never said anything aloud.) Less than 3 minutes later, one of the staff prayed for me and described in detail a GARDEN of flowers and growth and walking with God :]

♡ Throughout the rest of the week he continued to bring garden up and during one of my quiet times I felt like listening to The Secret Garden by AURORA. In general I only listen to worship music during quiet times but I listened to it and oh my gosh the absolute LOVE the Father poured out through this songs lyrics almost brought me to tears. I hadn't listened to the song in a while and had no clue the lyrics could so closely resemble relationship with God.

♡ This one's kind of personal but I still feel like I should share it. Coming into this camp where you live with strangers for a week I was pretty nervous I wasn't going to make good connections or friendships. But my counselor prayed for me and ohh man did God answer those prayers :) I laughed so hard with my roommates, we had inside jokes, other girls opened up to me and I got to just listen. One morning during campus group prayer I started crying. Not for what all us students were praying for, but because I had someone my age either side of me believing and going after Jesus just as much as me.

If you ever need a Jesus freak to talk to I'm always here! I know how hard it is to find others to truly be on fire for God with <3
